1986 Fleer basketball pack purchased at the CSA Chantilly show for $180. I am confident the packs are good but no idea if they have been sequence searched or not. I have purchased 86 from the dealer before and pulled stars but never a Jordan.

Sadly I know this sequence. There should be an Olajuwon rookie near the end of the pack unless the sequence flips mid-pack.

Sequence still intact. The centering is pretty good on these cards but I think most are 9s at best. I will definitely be subbing a few under the March special.

The Olajuwon rookie is nice probably an 8.5 or 9. The Orr has a bent upper left corner.

The Cooper has a nicked upper left corner as well. Tentatively planning to sub the Olajuwon, Nixon, Nance, Chambers, Carroll, and Bowie.

This is the 2nd pack in the last 3 I've opened that had an Olajuwon rookie. Why can't I get that kind of luck with Jordan?

Going to open another 86 Fleer pack then the Heritage boxes. I probably should look at the front of the basketball packs to see if I can discern the pattern but that seems like cheating when I know I will be opening the pack anyways.

I will put some aggregate stats on the 86 Fleer packs up after I finish ripping today. I feel like I've opened a ton of those packs so far in this thread.

Another 1986 Fleer pack purchased for $180 at CSA show.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry after seeing the first 4 cards. I guess there is always a chance the sequence will flip mid-pack.

Have to admit this pack was a bit of a letdown, no fun opening the same pack twice basically. I plan to submit the Orr, Olajuwon, Oakley, Nixon & Cooper I think several have good shots at 10s. The Chambers, Carroll and Nance go into my $5 special pile, the next $5 special I will dig them out and see if I think they have a shot at a 9 and if I don't already have them in my 86 Fleer PSA 9 set I will submit them.

    Now on to Heritage!

First box of 2009 Heritage for me this year. Bought the box for $72. Very pleased, the auto came from the last pack I opened. The Harden is 0066/1960, Youkilis is 126/560, Santana is 0102/1960, Uggla is 0045/1960 and Marson is 0036/1960.

Now onto a 1979 Topps hockey pack. Pack was purchased from BBCE for $60. Cards are in good shape but no Gretzky. I will open two packs of 76 OPC hockey and then the last 86 Fleer basketball pack.

The 76 OPC didn't have a Trottier but a couple of HOFers in pretty good shape.

Last 86 Fleer basketball pack (purchased for $180). A HOFer right off the bat, unless the sequence flips no Jordan this round. Centering in this pack is not very good so far.

Surprisingly the best centered card in the bunch was the Jordan. I will be submitting the Jordan and the Gretzky under the 5 day $14 special.

Was a little bored after going out to dinner and some drinks and figured I would aggregate some stats on my 1986 Fleer basketball pack ripping from this thread.

I have opened 11 packs thus far. I have pulled 3 Olajuwon RCs, 2 Jordan RCs, 1 Malone RC, 1 Worthy RC, 1 Barkley and 1 Ewing. I have not pulled either Dumars, Thomas, Wilkins or Drexler yet. I have bought 1 of the packs off Ebay, 7 of the packs from BBCE and 3 of the packs from a local Va/Md dealer. I am well ahead of the odds for pulling a Jordan but I have yet to receive a Jordan sticker not that I am complaining.

I have sent cards from the first 6 packs to be graded. I have graded 35 of the 78 cards:

    PSA 7 : 1 (Checklist) (~3%)
    PSA 8 : 9 (~26%)
    PSA 8.5 : 1 (~3%)
    PSA 9 : 16 (~45%)
    PSA 10 : 8 (~23%)

I have spent $2648.50 on the 11 unopened packs. I still have two unopened packs left (one from an earlier ebay purchase and one from the group rip). I currently plan to sub 22 more cards from the other 5 packs that have been ripped.

Now that I have satisfied the 86 Fleer ripping itch, at least temporarily, I need some suggestions for additional packs/boxes to rip for this thread. Rule is that the pack or box has to retail in PSA 7 (or raw off BBCE web site) for under $500 and there has to be a shot at a HOF RC or high dollar PSA 9 card (high dollar being at least the cost of the pack). Any sport is welcome. Please PM me any suggestions and I will try and choose one or two packs/boxes a month from the suggestions I receive.

    Cheers,

    Robb

How about some 1968 baseball. Depending on the series, you can go for the Mantle (#280), Ryan (#177), Mays (#50), and there are a few other cards with low pops that will bring you some cash (#5 LL, Gates Brown, etc.) in PSA 8+.

I agree with the '68 baseball... But you got to consider as you move away from Basketball (132 card set), the odds start going against you..

1986 Football was a bit of a dud. One Steve Young, at best an 8, and 2 Reggie White's. Centering was pretty poor throughout the box. I needed a PSA 9 Smith for my HOF FB RC collection but it was not to be. I will probably buy another box at some point this year.

No Brady in the Contenders. Autos of Danny Farmer and Reuben Droughns plus the two redemptions. I think the Soward would have been number to 100 (rookie championship ticket). I am pretty sure the Brady was not a redemption card, does anyone know for sure? It would really blow to pull a Brady redemption rookie.

Super fast turnaround on $14 5 day special. Even with the centering was really hoping the Gretzky would pull a 9, may contemplate cracking and resubmitting at some point. The Jordan goes into my self submitted set! My purchased one can go into my HOF RCs set. Overall can't complain, both cards were graded and the grades are fair. I have another sub at PSA mostly 86 Fleer from previous rips. I think I've checked the sub status a dozen times since it was logged in yesterday.
