Turnaround time was very fast for this March Collector's Club special (two days). The 1977 Rushing Leaders and Seahawk Checklists were from the 77 vending case rip. Apparently the PSA 9 Seahawks checklist is a pop 1 with none higher (only subbed those cards after reading a post by recbball in the 77 vending case rip). No love on the 86 Fleer I figured I would get at least one 10. Not sure what I missed on the Nance. I've got two more Olajuwon's to send in but will be waiting for the $4.50 April special (now that is quite a deal from PSA might have to buy more unopened next month just to take advantage of it).

Robb, the 90/91 UD hockey is a favorite of mine. Good luck!
  • Make sure to look out for Mark Recchi's card. That is his best rookie and there is very low pop of 10's out there. He is a tough one to find in a 10 if you are looking to complete the NHL 500 Goal Scorers set on the registry. Could get some good money for that one in a 10! It took me over two years to come across one.

The 90/91 Upper Deck hockey was fun to open. I remember busting a ton of this stuff back in the day. None of the cards seem to command any sort of premium graded so I will probably stick with my plan for Fetisov & Larionov and keep the other potential HOF RCs for potential submission if/when they are elected.

Nice! I don't collect hockey but I remember ripping a bunch of those too because for a while those were the only packs the drugstore by my home had. Always thought those were nice cards.

Opened a box of 2005/06 Upper Deck series two hockey purchased at the Chantilly show for $45. Yet another Ovechkin UD Victory card. I might be done with the 2005/06 UD hockey. This was the 6th box of series two I have opened and no Ovechkin Young Guns card thus far. I own a PSA 9 but wanted to pull one from a pack myself.

I can't believe how cheap that Jeff Carter rookie is. He's 3rd overall with goals (41) and he's playing on a Cup contender. A PSA 10 only went for $16 on ebay!

Not a very exciting rip. Pulled on original 53 Topps card (redemption for #211 which expired 12/25/02) and 16 SPs. Nothing else in the box unfortunately.
Going to need to open some other stuff.

Could always grade the redemption card. I certain 1 of 1 no matter what the grade.

Just trying to brighten up a bad situation.
  • halosfanhalosfan Posts: 2,632 ✭✭✭✭
That is one of the many reasons that redemptions suck!

Decided to open a box of 2007 Topps Heritage. Box was purchased from DACW for $60.

Kennedy is 0327/1958, Kris Benson is 0019/1958, Smoltz is 451/558.

What I don't understand about redemptions is why the card companies don't insert the unredeemed cards into the following years product (ie whenever the redemption expires). Can you imagine what people would pay for 2002 or 2003 Bowman Chrome baseball boxes if they could pull a 2001 Pujuls auto rookie? Seems like it would drive sales especially after market sales.

Well made my April purchase from BBCE. Depending how some of my bids in the current Memory Lane auction go this might be the majority of my April unopened purchases. There is a lot of hockey but one of the primary drivers there is that my PSA 9 HOF RC collection has the most holes in hockey which gives me a chance to pull a rookie card that could actually be added to my collection (assuming it grades out). The 1968 Topps series one will be my first 60s baseball pack. The odds are not good with those packs because I believe there are only 5 cards per pack but should be pretty exciting! I seriously considered buying the 1971 Topps baseball series 4 box BBCE has for sale for my unopened box collection but decided I would rather have a 1986 Fleer basketball or 1979 OPC hockey box.

There should be a little bit of everything this month for my pack rips. Thanks to everyone that PMed suggestions for future rips. I am on the lookout for some clean 1975 Topps baseball racks and 1971 Topps baseball packs.

    (3) 1984 Topps football packs
    (4) 1986 Topps football packs
    (1) 1979 OPC hockey pack PSA 8
    (4) 1979 Topps hockey packs
    (3) 1980 OPC hockey packs
    (3) 1981 OPC hockey packs
    (5) 1982 OPC hockey packs
    (6) 1985 OPC hockey packs
    (2) 1990/91 Score hockey boxes
    (2) 1974 Topps basketball packs
    (1) 1968 Topps baseball series 1 pack PSA 7
    (1) 1972 Topps football series 2 pack PSA 8
    (1) 1973 Topps baseball series 5 pack PSA 8

Received my order from BBCE today. Going to rip the 6 1985/86 OPC hockey looking for a Lemieux rookie and the 4 1979 Topps hockey packs looking for another Gretzky. Depending on how those rips go I might open the 1984 and 1986 Topps football packs. These first 4 sets of packs were part of the group CU rip.

First two 79 Topps packs (purchased for $65 a piece) didn't have very good centering but the corners are in decent shape.

Third and fourth 1985/86 OPC packs were centered well but the Yzerman was the wax card unfortunately.

Great errr Great One Robb! I'm thinking 8 b/c of the tilt. Awesome card!!
  • fergie23fergie23 Posts: 2,115 ✭✭✭✭
Yeah the Gretzky has a slight tilt but will be subbing hoping for that elusive 9.
Last 79 Topps hockey pack was a bit anti-climatic after pulling the Gretzky on the previous pack.
Now onto the last two 85/86 OPC packs, hopefully my good luck carries over.

Two for two on major rookie pulls! Lemieux waited until pack 6 to show up. Card looks like an 8 depending how PSA interprets the rough cut corners. The 5th pack had nothing but some well centered commons.

Going to open the two packs of 1974 Topps basketball and see if my good luck continues. I need the Gervin rookie in PSA 9 for my collection.

  • That Lemieux is awesome and as long as the back is centered should get you a 9 at least. Being an avid OPC collector PSA does not ding you for rough cuts due to the nature of OPC. WOW is all I can say on that mario card.

Next time I buy packs I want Fergie to pick them out for me. Very nice stuff.
  • fergie23fergie23 Posts: 2,115 ✭✭✭✭
2 1974 Topps basketball packs purchased from BBCE for $60 a piece. The first pack had little star power and no gradable cards mostly due to centering. The 2nd pack had a Pistol Pete card but nothing worth grading, again centering was the culprit.

I will be opening the 84 and 86 Topps football packs later this week. I won one of the cards in the Memory Lane auction so this latest purchase from BBCE will be the bulk of unopened material I rip this month.

Next up a box of 1989 Score football. Box was purchased on Ebay for $223.99 with Buy it Now. About $25 over normal auction price which was reasonable enough for me.

Very fun box to open, lots of stars and rookies. Sadly no Barry Sanders rookie but still well worth it from an entertainment perspective. I will be subbing both of the Aikman rookies.
