I think the Gretzky has a good shot at a 9 but will probably garner an 8. The corners are sharp and the centering is within guidelines for a 9.
I have included scans of the 3 PSA 8 Gretzky's in my collection (all pulled from wax or vending).

<< <i>this is awesome to follow- he is going to pull a Gretzky this go around >>

I called it- I love it

I got an order today from BBCE and the first pack of 84 D was a pretty nice Mattingly(second card in pack).

So happy for you on the Gretzky

Opening one of the 1986 Fleer basketball packs from the group 86 Fleer basketball box rip. Pack was $277. I chose the pack that had the best centered top card, the other two packs have way OC centering on the top card.
Centering is good thus far and corners are very sharp.

I will be subbing 10 of these cards under the March special. There are several with strong shots at a PSA 10.
I will be sending the Gretzky under the 5 day $14 special. Gonna send it in after I rip most of the other boxes and packs to see if there are any cards that need to join it.

    Edited to add grading summary:
    10 cards submitted to PSA--
    1 PSA 7
    3 PSA 8
    6 PSA 9
    0 PSA 10
I definitely liked this pack more than PSA did. The Olajuwon and Oakley both deserved 8s.

This Gervin was also the top card of the pack and has wax damage.

I am bored and still on Hawaii time so going to open a 1970 Topps football pack graded GAI 8. Don't know what series this pack is from. Purchased off ebay for $118.

These might be the worst conditioned cards I've ever pulled from a pack (the 3 yard gain Topps game card is creased, how could that happen without all the other cards being creased since it is the middle card in the pack?). This was not a legit pack in my opinion.
I bought from DACW vintage ebay ID. They have been selling a ton of GAI graded 1970 football packs and I figured they just got a box graded. Ohh well sooner or later you will get screwed buying vintage unopened.
I will open an 86 Fleer basketball pack to remove the sour taste from my mouth. Granted 4 Jordan's have been pulled from the box this pack was part of so I am fairly confident there will be no Jordan in this pack but at this point IMO it would be dishonest to sell these packs since there is almost no chance of another Jordan being pulled. It is pretty much the equivalent of searching a box and then selling the remaining packs.

WOW Fergie ... NO DOUBT that was a resealed pack. YUP ... you got screwed on that one! With all that went down with GAI over the past year or so I would stay away from ALL GAI packs with the new flip!

EDITED TO ADD: Send the pics to GAI and see what kind of a response you get, if you get any at all.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Fergie, sorry for your misfortune, I thought the same thing too about Dave and Adam's, they graded out a box.

P.S. I don't know who is more stupid, GAI for grading the packs or the guy who is making up the packs. FYI 1970 1st series packs included a poster and 2nd series packs contain the glossy card. The game cards were included in 1971 packs.

Grades popped for some recent cards from these rips. Very fair grading and fast. These were subbed as part of the March $7 special.

I don't appear to pre-grade 86 Fleer stickers very well. I have never gotten a 10 on an 1986 Fleer sticker card that I subbed. I will update the various posts where these cards were pulled.

Will be opening a 1977 Topps football vending box purchased from BBCE as part of a group vending case rip for $375. I only need the Casper and Haynes in PSA 9 from this year for my PSA 9 FB HOF RC collection.
Thus far it seems that folks that have opened these boxes have been disappointed due to very poor centering.

For those that bought 1977 vending boxes from the group rip and have not opened them I would recommend leaving them sealed. No cards pulled that are really worth submitting though I might sub one of the Rushing Leaders cards. OC or corner issues on pretty much every card in the box. Collation was spotty with only two of the HOF RCs in my box.

In my experience boxes from vending cases have similar characteristics but you never know. I opened a lot of vending boxes before I realized that wax & racks were the better way to go for gradable cards.

I received my Jordan back from PSA today, I still believe it has a shot at a 9 (at least 30%) but for now will not play the crack and re-sub game with it. I will be adding it to my slowly growing collection of Jordan RCs (the two 8s and 5 were from packs I opened).

I will be opening a 1991 Stadium Club football box. I have a sub I plan to send tomorrow and would like to add a Favre or two to the order.

Pulled a Farve from the box. Will be added to my sub. Box was purchased from BBCE for $75.

Won a 2000 Playoff Contenders box on ebay as well. Going to go for the Brady auto rookie! I almost bought one (PSA 9) last year for $2200, glad I held off since they go for under $1k in PSA 9 now. I think the box will be part of my April rips, I still have a bunch of boxes and packs left from previous purchases to rip in March.

fergie, have you tried to return that 1970 pack to DAcardworld? They should at least give you store credit for that bologna. I almost pulled the trigger myself, got a 66 Philly pack instead(old flip). Everything seemed right in that pack, wax stain to gum seeping...

I contacted DACardWorld about the bogus pack but they haven't replied back.

I went to the CSA show in Chantilly today and bought some more unopened, I couldn't find any PSA 9 HOF RCs that I didn't already have. I got 3 packs of 86-87 Fleer basketball from a dealer that I know sells legit packs. The packs were $180 a piece so I got 3 packs for the price I normally pay BBCE for 2, can't beat that. I also purchased two boxes of 2005/06 Upper Deck hockey series two ($45 a piece) and 2 boxes of 2009 Topps Heritage ($72 a piece). I will be opening all of them today. Should be fun! Probably will open a couple of packs I have left over from my BBCE purchase a couple weeks back as well. Hopefully I pull something worth sending in with the Gretzky.

I recall several years ago I had some difficulty returning unopened to DACardworld when it arrived...eventually they refunded me and that was right after the sale and before I opened any packs...hopefully they've gotten better with their CS over time, but the experience was enough to turn me off..
