<< <i>Come on, Lowrie is much better than a "free out." He is hitting .362 against lefties this year. >>

You're right - I really meant the 7-8-9, and meant to include Cash and not Varitek.

Derek Jeter's buddy. Haven't you ever seen them in the commercial together?

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."

Well, he certainly wasn't rooting for Arod - the crowd was a little rough on him tonight. image

The only way you can get a sweep is to win the first one..........two to go!!

Yeah, I'd say winning the first 2 games of the series is great. Now lets go for the sweep tomorrow!

NICE job last night! Lets bust out the Broomstick for tonights game image

HOpefully Lester does a little better this time. Ya think he is getting tired down the stretch paul>?
  • Options
It's very difficult to sweep the Red Sox at Fenway, and it's difficult to sweep the Yankees in da Bronx.
  • Options
Having said that, let's sweep that stadium clean today. No better way to close out
Stankee Stadium then with a Red Sox winning the MVP at the all star game, and sweeping the place before we leave it to ruins.image

I dont think so Leo, all pitchers have ups and downs during the long season- I would like to see him spin a gem in this start as I think it will be a HUGE confidence lift to him and will be useful to him in the post season- ( Obviously IF we make it )

I agree. The polite thing to do is to make a clean sweep of any place before you turn out the lights.

I just saw on espn.com that today's first pitch is at 1:05 Eastern...glad I accidentally found that as I would have been tuning in about six hours too late this evening!

Very odd to have a day game on a Thursday in August, but nice if you can make the time to watch it.

Man, he missed his target big time. What a waste of a great effort by Lester.

Seems like the kind of win that could spark an inspired Yankee run. Let's hope it's just another win and nothing more.

Just a quick glance at the schedules and I noticed Boston is in good position. They have 29 games left, 20 @ Fenway. TB has 31 left only 14 of which are at the Trop. The evil empire has 29 remaining, 13 at home. Among the games, TB has 2 series left with the Sox, 2 with the yankees and finish with 8 games on the road the final week of the season 4 @ Bal then 4 @ Det. 18-11 is a reasonable expectation to finish the year, which would put the Sox at 95 wins - TB would need to go 15-16 to finish in a tie - this is where the baseball season gets really interesting!! For the yankees to get to 95 wins, the need have a Rockies like finish and go 24-5 - I don't see that happening.

WeekendHacker, just remember the Mets had a 7 game lead last year with 17 games remaining. One can do all the calculations they want on paper but a team has to go out and win. Obvioulsy I much rather be in the Red Sox's position but I won't give up on my team.

Worse than going on the DL . . . Beckett is going to see Dr. Andrews. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be okay.

Yea that makes two of us.

As far as todays game goes, it was a decent game - taking two out of three from the Yanks is good in my book any day of the week.

Not exactly great news, let's hope this visit truly is precautionary. He's the one guy we can't afford to lose.

The Mets choke last year was legendary. I wouldn't bet on it happening again. However I won't be happy until the Yankees are officially elminated.

Lets go DICE! Tough matchup tonight against the Chisox and Javier Vasquez- hopefully we can get some run support for him and add to his team best W #'s!

Buh Bye Beckett for 15 days.

    << <i>Buh Bye Beckett for 15 days. >>

Evidently his exam with good ole Doc Andrews went well and nothing significant was found. He should be back to pitch on Friday 05 Sep. This might be a blessing in disguise; he's getting some rest just in time for the playoffs and should be at full strength.

I thought the same thing. Beckett and Lowell should both be fresh for the playoff stretch.

It was great news that his exam went well - and the move being retroactive, he will only be out 6 more days or so. We'll manage.

Great win tonight, this Pedroia is pretty good eh?

I really like Bay as well...Manny who?

    Dice K 16-2

What happened to all the people that said Dice-K was overrated? He was untouchable last night, and the White Sox have a great hitting lineup.

I just can't figure out how he has managed to go 16-2. It's got to be the worst most dominate season ever. Don't get me wrong though, I'm happy with the results.

The walks are down significantly his last couple starts. I hope that's a sign of things to come!

We're going to be tough in the postseason if we enter with three healthy shut down pitchers. Dice-K, Beckett, and Lester can
all throw shutout baseball when they're on. Paul Byrd is an awesome playoff performer too.

What a great sigh of relief when I opened up the sportspage in the Boston Herald today! Beckett is key to any possible postseason success!

Nice shutout ball last night as well image

one more at-bat to go, this game has been disappointing so far. RISP multiple times with nada as a result. Bay needs a day off, he sucked at the plate today.

The Sox just took 2 out of 3 in Toronto. They took 2 out of 3 in New York. They'll take 2 out of 3 at home against the White Sox.
I'll take that anyday of the week. image

this WS run is going to have to go the Wild Card route, I've resigned myself to that. First stop, Anaheim...as long as the Sox play in September like they did in August
