This is a tough call - but I have to say, we root (well, kind of) for New York. We need the Rays to lose a few games, so we can be in striking distance when we play them head to head in September. The Yankees winning doesn't mean anything at this point.
Okay, I wouldn't say this if we were playing the Rangers, but if after 6 innings the Red Sox are beating the Orioles by 10 runs, shouldn't they institue the mercy rule?
<< <i>nice win. That one-trick pony in the 9th for Boston needs to develop another pitch or two. 95+ fastballs get hittable after a while >>
Agreed. They just start the bat sooner. He threw just one slider in the whole inning, all the others were 94 or 95 fastballs.
What happened to his devastating splitter? Why can't he develop a change-up? Are we complaining too much? >>
not complaining too much...it is a fact that he throws a vast majority of darn-near straight FASTballs. MLB hitters, the good ones at least, figure out how to hit those things.
What a relief to hear Beckett is returning this week, tell ya what with Bay contributing and Pedroia's hitting the cover off the ball I like our chances more and more- winning the AL east!
I guess this is reason #1 why we don't give out MVP awards at the end of August. If he keeps this up, I think he's going to silence a lot of his critics in the AL MVP debate.

What a game today!! Things weren't looking too good, but suddenly 4-2 and finally a very bizarre win with the pitcher throwing the ball away to left field, Cora walks home from third for the win.
Don't miss Ellsbury's catch in right field. Clearly a homer he caught over the fence ala Dwight Evans. The triple by Kotsay and yet again Pedroia reaches the monstah seats. A huge win to keep pace.

I'm rooting for Pavano tonight. I sure hope he does better in the second inning than he did in the first. Of course, Arod was no help in the first.
I forgot about that Ellsbury catch - pretty amazing. Over the last few years, there have been a few defensive plays in the outfield by the Sox that stand out. My favorite was the leaping catch Crisp made in his first season here. But this one was right up there.
Lets enjoy this day off and hope we can continue our solid play against these freakin' Rangers next series! We need to come out of this series a winner to keep the pressure on the RAYS!
Is there anyone else who believes we're catching and passing the Rays this year ? I think we're the better ballclub. We have Lester, Dice-K, and Beckett next week at home against them.
<< <i>Lets enjoy this day off and hope we can continue our solid play against these freakin' Jays next series! We need to come out of this series a winner to keep the pressure on the RAYS! >>
Hey Perk . . . you're not secretly becoming a Rays fan, are you? The Rays are taking on the Blue Jays in this upcoming series. The Sox get to tackle the Rangers again.

Funny thing, today at work I remembered posting this- I honestly have no clue why I thought we were playing them this weekend.

Well, it looks like Lowell's vacation, I mean rehab, served him well. He looks healthy, rested, and productive. It's good to have him and Beckett back. Beckett looked pretty good too. Now, if we can just get Youkilis back too.

Yep - Youk should be back tonight. Lowell hasn't looked right, to me, since maybe June. I knew he was partially hurt - but he's the type of player that won't take himself out unless Francona drags him out (like Youk, Ortiz, Pedroia - not Nancy Drew!). I hope he's recovered and will finish strong down the stretch.
Too painful to watch, Wakefield was just horrible.
As soon as I saw Timlin coming in I had to bail out. Credit the Rangers, they had our number tonight, too bad with the amazing comeback of the Jays to nail the Rays. 13-4, I'm gone.
Toronto helped the Sox again, beating the Rays 1-0...Boston needs to take advantage of the loss by TB by beating Texas. Let's score 19 runs (to make it close?)!

Sox are up 14 to 12 over the Yanks!
<< <i>Done - and, it's 16 to 12 now. >>

Come on lets get some more runs and bring in Paps!
Even I have to give the guy his due.
He certainly is swinging a hot bat.

And Pedroia is on a tear right now, that is as good as I've seen in a long while. Keep him in cleanup!

Saturday.
Also good to see Beckett's alright!
<< <i>We need to stay hot since Troy Percival just gave up a grand slam to Greg Zahn to win the game for the Jays over the Rays! >>
just "saw" that on MLB gameday. SAWEET!

Keep the faith!!
for the division.
<< <i>We can 1 1/2 games back if we beat Texas today. Toronto will cool down by the time they face us. Things are looking good

Hopefully we'll take the Rays to the woodshed in Boston....again!
