<< <i>Is it just me or does Bartolo Colon remind anyone else of Manny Ramirez with a haircut and 75 extra pounds?
One other thing: why is that JD Drew left the team for his grandmother's funeral but Stephen Drew is still with the Diamondbacks? >>
Colon has gotta be 275++. Looks like he fields the ball a bit better than Manny with that behind the back catch.
Could be they just let JD go because he's already on the DL and his brother isn't, but will probably leave after the Diamondbacks game. The funeral is here in Atlanta I believe.
We need this game big time, now 5-3 Jays...can Coco come through???? Ah, no, he can't.
I PM'd to you the PM that you have conviently forgotten about.
And yes your original stick a fork in it was a connfrontational thread, one in which I said that you seemed to have an inferiority complex to even create.
I then opologised, you accepted, then when I questioned something you said you went ballistic,
so besides being a LIAR, you are also a SB.
By the way I requested for you to post the very first PM you ever sent to me. And only after you threatened to show the world my drivel.
<<<< Sure, just make sure that you also include the very first PM you ever sent me. >>>>
You of course did not, you sent the 2nd, so as requested is BS.
Great hustle and slide by Ortiz in the 7th was crucial in the outcome. Rance Mulliniks, who I think is an excellent commentator, was mentioning throughout the day that at this point in the season with Ortiz hand he thinks the Jays would rather face him than Pedroia in a tough spot.

Pedroia has been a hot hitter lately, Ortiz has not...it wouldn't surprise me to see more intentional or "unintentional" walks to Pedroia as long as he hits in front of a cold Ortiz
No doubt Pedroia is the guy you want up there in a big spot right now, and after him maybe Youk. Ortiz deserves a lot of credit for not just packing it in this season (I bet he easily could have) but he's not going to be 100% right until next season.
Burnett pitched around Pedroia twice yesterday with Ortiz on deck. When Mulliniks made his comment the announcer remarked, "Do you know what you just said?"
I agree Ortiz deserves a lot of credit and hopefully he can stay healthy enough to be a presence the rest of the season.
<< <i>YES!! Now I have to do the unthinkable and switch it the Rays and Yankees, and root for the...ugh....you know.. .I just can't bring my self to say it! >>
Mariano almost blew it! OK, one more time today -- Go uh, er, . . . you know.

My son just gave me a hard time because I said the Yankees were winning. I should have said the Rays were losing. This is like an alternate universe!!
Papelbon must be thankful that a 3 run lead can still get you a save since he pissed away two of those runs. Nice job by Lester, Crisp, et al. Papelbon needs to learn to throw something other than BP
I read that they are trying to keep his pitch count down. Now everyone knows that and sits dead red....Oh well I will take the win! Hopefully we'll be heading to St. Pete only out by a game!!
<< <i>I read that they are trying to keep his pitch count down. Now everyone knows that and sits dead red....Oh well I will take the win! Hopefully we'll be heading to St. Pete only out by a game!! >>
can he effectively throw something other than dead red? I don't think so

He was throwing splitters, but could not get them over the plate. Hopefully he works this out by the postseason.
BTW, is it that hard for Papelbon to learn how to throw a changeup? If he had one, he would be unhittable. Foulke only threw a 89 mph fastball, but was effective (at Oakland and on the 2004 Red Sox) because he had a great changeup.

changeup would be nice, if that's too tough, he needs to work on a slider, eephus pitch, ANYTHING!
We were getting too close to the bottom of page 1.
I don't see why a professional baseball player couldn't learn to throw a changeup. I learned one in high school and I wasn't even a pitcher. Granted, my changeup stunk but I wasn't starting off with the God-given talent that Papelbon possesses either.
Game 1: A rematch of the sub 3.00 wild things - Dice vs. Kazmir Game 2: Beckett vs. Sonnanstine Game 3: Wakefield vs. Garza
Tough call on each of the games in this series. I wouldn't bet on any of them. Normally I'd say Garza over Wakefield, but Wakefield pitched a gem last time out (not that knuckle is condusive to hot streaks) and he's playing in a dome which usually helps him. Still, Garza is quite capable of throwing a gem of his own. I'll be okay with it if we take 1 of 3 and I'll be ecstatic if we take 2 of 3.
According to some of the commentators Papelbon's velocity has been down the past while. Throw in the fact that he has lost a little bit of the command on his splitter and all you have sometimes is a straight 93-94 fastball. He is still effective but not as dominant as is capable of being.
<< <i>Anything less than 2 of 3 is going to be a disapointment in my book. This is where we find out what kind of team we really have!
Lets pound on these guys and take the division once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >>
2 of 3 is a must, IMO, if the Sox wish to take the division. No reason not to get 3 of 3, of course, unless Papelbon has less than a three run lead. He is starting to remind me of he whose name must not be spoken
<< <i>Wow, fun game tonight guys. Congrats on the big win. However, as much fun as it was, let's hope tomorrow night isn't another high scoring ball game. >>
Even Timlin didn't bother me as much as he normally does. I guess Tito only uses him when we have a 10 run lead or better...thank God!!
Almost felt bad for Kazmir, he was beyond hope early...lucky for us. Let's hope we can nail down the Division.
I hope the Red Sox fans give Jeter a huge standing O for topping Gehrig's Yankee hit record (which he will have done by the time they get to Fenway to close the season). Jeter has always been a class act, truly one of the most gifted and professional players ever to wear the pinstripes. Few, if any have ever played SS as well as him, no doubt a disappointing season for him, but what an incredible accomplishment. Massive congrats to Derek Jeter!!!!

Al, I do agree with you about Jeter but lets be honest here- its a lot easier to ask Red Sox Nation to give a standing O to him when the Yankees are 9 or 10 games back and pretty much out of the playoffs!
<< <i>That was a great win last night, I didn't expect to see such a one-sided game. Now, let's keep it going in the next two. >>
I'm not suprised that the Sox are in first. They are still a better ballclub then Tampa. Actually, they are the World Champions, and in my opinion the World Series must go through Boston first.

And if I was a mutt like you I'd post PM's in Public.

Top of the 9th can the Sox hold em?

I will say no Timlin unless there are two outs in the ninth, a 6' tall infant holding a noodle up at bat, and the Sox are up by fourteen million runs.
