Yes they can. Every September, I hate when the Red Sox play Toronto. They always play the Sox tough, but if Toronto played all season like they play in September - they might win the division someday.

Probably not. Toronto has been way too hot and will probably cool off a bit. They don't have the hitting to go on extended hot streaks. Boston has two to three shut down pitchers that will not enable them to go on any extended losing streaks. Boston is well rested.

I agree. He looked worse than Varitek has looked at points this season. I mean, I understand that a big league curve ball can fool the best hitters, but that last one he struck out on had no chance of being a strike even if it didn't curve.

How many times have I written about Timlin and his PATHETIC, INEPT, LOOOOOOOZER performance???? As soon as I saw him warming up the writing was on the wall.
His dismal record is 4-4 and is paid - GET THIS - $125k per week. And is rarely used.
OTOH we had a ton of chances to win, but when the game is on the line and the bullpen is paper thin, Timlin ain't the go-to-guy! I hope they boo his ass out of Fenway Park and the sooner the better. He may as well come out of the bullpen wearing the opponent's uniform. The only thing Timlin is good for is to play in the bullpen band with those tarp tie downs.

I could be wrong too, but I read it as the Rays were tough, they didn't roll over for us, and they beat us. Not necessarily on these boards, but a lot of people keep waiting for the Rays to go away, especially now that it's pennant race time. The fact that they played us tough goes to show that they really, really, truly aren't going away. And to think, they took 2 out of 3 from Boston without Crawford, Longoria, and Upton (for 2 games) in the lineup! I was impressed.

Thanks Von - that is exactly what I meant. I came away from watching that series very impressed with the Rays, especially the bullpen. And it really is amazing that they are playing without the only 3 hitters anyone probably knows on the team (Crawford, Longoria, and Upton) and still winning. FWIW, I still think Orlando screwed many high-end set holders, especially since he touted on and on about never going to the half-point system. I've read a ton of posts, he hasn't had the moxie to respond to one in an open forum, which tells me a lot. It's obviously a money grab, perhaps pressure from the suits who run CLCT. I'll still look for deals, but right now I'm more concentrated on off and some on eBay sales. I expect the PSA coffers will get a pump, but just like this stupid check we're all gonna get from the Feds, it'll be short lived. I say leave the free market place alone. Too much political posturing.
Nothing wrong with a raw 55 set, even if it did grade at out a PSA 6. I think I just woke one day and realized I had waaaaay too much money in something that originally cost $2.06. I've got a bit over $30k tied up in my 55T set, silly, really.

Throughout the season I have been toasted on all daytime Red Sox games, either at Fenway or away. Yet, my Directv MLB package would show games of no consequence in the standings in either league.
Tonight's game is televised, I hope I don't wear out my remote by clicking between Fenway Park and the USC - OSU game.
haven't checked the box score yet, but assume Byrd was shelled. So maybe now Wakefield is a #4 starter in the playoffs that I hope the Sox make it to? Byrd will be the innings eater out of the pen? A lot can change in the last two weeks! Let's pull for a split with a W tonight.
