I went through my 78's again after you posted the pop reports. These my have a shot at a 9, although I see from the scan that the Norris has a tilt to it.

Sigh, another day and nothing from the mailman and nothing from my FEDX and UPS guys.

Ok, here is the break down of my 18 packs. 19 cards will go to PSA, the molitor I posted earlier, 14 cards that are perfect which I think will have a shot at 10's and 4 low pop cards that have a shot at 9. The thing that scares me about the whole deal is the temptation to start to collect this set.image

I got these graded a while ago but have been too lazy to send them in for the brainiacs to fix...

thanks for that tidbit .... makes me wonder how many errors are made that never get corrected. The last has been adjusted.

Hello guys, I didn't participate in this rip but I've been following it. I would be interested in acquiring a Ceser Cedeno #650 in PSA 9 or in raw PSA 9 potential. Also wouldn't mind picking up a nice lot of HOF'ers in NM (PSA 7 quality) raw. If anyone has any they would like to part with send me a PM. I can pay with PayPal or maybe we can work out a trade. I would love to do this set for the registry but with a 2 year old and a 4 year old I just cant afford it.

    Thanks,

Kinda hurts to think that when I was ripping seemingly hundreds of packs (but in reality probably less than 100) of '78s when I was 12, I might have handled some really nice-looking cards just like these. The '78 was my first set, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. It's been a lot of fun watching you guys rip. Thanks for that.

I received my box via UPS not FedEx. I'm sure you'll get your box Monday, Cali is as far west as you can get so it takes a day or two longer to get there. No need to worry!

I also received mine via Fedex HOME DELIVERY which is a division of Fedex Ground. They are not the same as Fedex EXPRESS and they have completely different service standards and not as costly or service driven as Fedex. Steve Hart said they would all be shipped fedex, so not sure how someone had ups deliver theirs.

I looked over the 78's again and put together a sub. I have 57 cards that should 9 or 10 and 30 with a strong 10 shot. I have a Murray and Brett that I hope they both 9- the Brett worries me due to roller mark, and the Murray due to hairy bottom edge that is into the corners. I have probably another 50 that could get 9's but centering is not good enough for a 10 so I will not sub them. I feel I did great on the box and am not a bit worried about the stars I didnt get. I do however think I will be getting another box from Steve in the near future.

I hope everyone gets their packs soon and posts some great cards. Someone has a GEM MINT Murray or Molly in this case!!!!

I have tried to post a few pics of my scans to no avail. I will try to figure it out later today. Opened my box yesterday and got some nice examples here and there. Most cards were off center of course but found a few that I will probably send in. Best shot at stars at 9 would probably be the Ryan (marginal) and Murray although I think they might get 8's due to centering or even 9oc. I'll try to get the scans up soon.

Hard to see exact centering on that Ryan, but isn't that one of the tuffies in this set?? I just might have to pick up a few seeing all of these 78s.

After opening a half case of this stuff over the last few years, the number of centered Murray's, Brett's and Ryan's in this case is astounding to me. I see the pop reports of PSA 9's going up over the next few months. I'm jealous.

Wow!!! that Murray looks sweet. That is one tough card to get centered.

The Ryan has borderline 8/9 centering IMO. The Murray has good centering but has a few print marks toward the upper right portion of the card. The Bahnsen card on my previous scan has 8 centering IMO but the Blomberg could be a 9. I believe the Blomberg is a low pop card w no 10's.

Sorry for the crooked scans previously. I'm still a bit of a newbie with the scanner. I'm surprised that I got the pics of the scans on here quite honestly.

After looking at the scans I posted, my thinking now is that the Ryan is going to grade either 8 or 9oc. It's a close call. The Murray is hopefully a 9 even with the print marks. We shall see. Thanks for everyone comments. It was fun opening the box and I plan on submitting some of them soon.

Here's another crooked scan of my 9 Ryan with the raw.

I think you got a 9, if corners are sharp.

johnny, nice Murray. Those small print DOTS will not hurt you I don't think. Good luck getting a 9. If those corners are nice then you should be good!

I have yet to see a really good looking PSA 9 #400 Nolan Ryan. Most of them that have been graded 9 should be 8's. Certainly nothing against you jonny but that PSA 9 is the same as all the others I see pop up on e-bay. Also looks like a rough left edge? It is a tough tough tough card.
Judging by the scan which is tough to do of course, I think that raw Ryan is an 8. image but you never know!

Even though the centering looks similar to the 9 that I have, I agree with softparade that the Ryan is probably an 8 unless it's a 9oc. At least if I think that way then if it turns out to be a 9, it will be a pleasant surprise. The centering on the 9's must be exactly 65/35 because it sure doesn't look any better than that. It looks more like 70/30 but I don't have the measurement instruments to check it out. Guess we'll have to wait to find out.
  • Options
I show the PSA 9 Ryan to be 58/42 left to right.

The raw Ryan appears to be 61/39 left to right.

Remember I'm looking for NM commons & stars for my raw set.

Dave, Sweet Murray. Got my fingers crossed for that 10, but looks like a strong 9 at the very least!!! He's a cool person to talk to. He has season tickets to the Clippers about 3 rows in front of my family's seats.
