I wouldn't doubt it! The 78 set is so far stamped into my head that I always confuse the tough low pop commons with other years versions of the same player or card. image

since im still on the defensive here let me clear something up here before rumors start. Everyones address was sent to steve except for ronburgundy and dina silver and heres why when i sent payment to steve and the addresses ronburgundy and had yet to pay and dina silver payment had not cleared. those 27 packs i had steve ship to me and was going to ship to those 2 when payments were made and cleared. this was to cover my arse and keep this going and is easy to see. but in light of all the allegations yesterday i dont want anymore problems or rumors so ron and dina i just gave you a refund and will keep the packs when they arrive. sorry you 2 but this is the easieast so no more rumors start flying

i've opened 6 packs (3 from 2 columns). each pack has had an OC team card or OC checklist at the bottom (gum side). no star power so far other than the OC palmer in the first pack...wish me better luck.

also, pack 6 yielded 4 mgr cards.

update: 1/3 way thru the box - star power thus far: oc palmer, stargell, oc reggie, garvey...kind of dull for 1/3 of the box. oh well, it will get better. image ...still lots of team cards. 9 out of 12 packs have had them.

pack 15 yielded a rose and the molly/trammell rookie..it has the smear at the bottom and a little OC 40/60 L/R. i'll post scan later tonite or tomorrow. 21 packs to go...wahoo

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

The back looks very clean. The corners are actually sharper than the pictures looks. The bottom red line is smudged a little, hope that doesn't hurt to bad. I have only opened 4 packs and so far very pleased with the quality. Will open more later and post some more pics.

Nice Pull! I have to say your smudge is smaller then the ones I have seen over the last two years from wax ..... image

Not that wax cases have anything to do with that of course but as nice and pristine as BBCE 78 wax has been they have contained a run of Molly smudge!

finished my box. working on getting some scans together. prolly not going to happen tonite as we are heading out to st louis early in the a.m. the majority of my box was oc. gum stains on the back card of only half the packs. here are the stars pulled: molitor rookie, morris rookie, dawson, rose, ryan, stargell, reggie, mccovey (2), palmer, bench and a carlton, i think most of these would pull an OC qualifier.

i ended up with 17 mgr cards, 22 team checklists, 5 overall checklists, 7 leader cards, and 2 record breakers. roughly 10 cards maybe pulling a shot at a 10 on a good day. overall, not the best, but i've never opened a complete wax box that old and i really enjoyed it. i would have liked to had more star power and better centering...but wouldn't we all???? was really hoping for a nice murray...maybe next time.

good luck to the rest of you guys.

    Thanks,

well in this part of town, we call them TRAMMELL/Molitor rookies!!! y'all just wait and see! Tram will have his day!! Tram may have not gotten 3000 hits, but at least he didn't DH most of his career!!!

seriously, tho- nice to see these 78s are in such nice shape with AMAZING centering!! i moaned about the prices, but these have made me regret all that!!! isn't it NICE to open packs that are guaranteed untampered?!??!? this is certainly the pinnacle of the hobby and anyone who would even think to sabotage this thrill deserves to be locked away with nothing but their 'prized' collection to eat. It's nice when a bunch of collectors get together and do this, not really caring about making a profit.

i of course reference nobody in this. i have said this over and over.......

Yes, that is the norm. It's not as bad as 79 but the 78's can be a beotch. We got lucky with the centering on this case. This is a tough issue and seen by the Nolan Ryans, which are typically BRUTALLY centered, this case has awesome centering.

    I do have a 79 vending case.

In my experience - if one box is bad - there's a chance the whole case may go that way.

I did sell almost a rack box of 79s to ldferg - less one rack over a few month period.

I never did ask him how the centering was?

One day - I'm gonna rip the two racks, the two wax boxes and the entire vending case.

And pray I can put together the best damn 79T set on the planet!!!

    Am I dreaming or what!

I have a question on the centering on this world series card. The top to bottom is o/c but with the left, right and top borders being that close it almost makes the card look centered. How do they "normally" grade this issue from border to words???

take the card and compare it to the others. is it the same size? every now and then some cards get (factory) cut maybe 1/16" or 1/24" shorter and reputable graders will not holder them and accuse you of trimming (a $2 card).........
