<< <i>Cards finally arrived. One pack has Eddie Murray on the bottom - do I rip or no?
>>
That is a tough call, but man what a great case that turned out to be.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
You could grade with subtitle "Murray on Bottom" and might get $50-75 for it, but the card may be worth more if centering is decent, corners are sharp, and the wax can be removed. Look at the other cards that are coming out of the packs- are the bottom cards damaged badly? You should be able to get the wax off the surface without any problem with pantyhose, but if corners are generally bad, you should probably keep it shut. Use the other bottom cards as a litmus test.
<< <i> You can say that again! Awesome centering in the case, which is tough on the 78s.
Plus, it's always nice to get what you pay for >>
This is one of the reasons my box is staying the way it came. PRISTINE! I like the idea of having a top notch cash fresh box from a case with good history thus far.

While I applaud your reasoning and resolve, you sir are sick.
I can't even stand to have a box of 1990 Donruss left unopened in my presence, let alone something that might have something interesting inside.
DON'T open the Murray pack; it'll most likely have a wax stain on the back (and you can't just rub off wax stains with a paper towel if it's on the back) and it's MUCH rarer this way.
BTW, I still need a nice John Denny #609 if anyone pulled one.
I would open everything else first and then if you are happy stop there. I would imagine the pack would sell for more than the card in 8, and if you get lucky like some there might be another Murray somewhere in your box. I am still waiting for the Gem Mollies to be scanned. I want to see the cards of the guys who got more than one box.
One Molitor with the print defect and one O/C Ryan. No Murray. I did get one pack with a Reggie and a Reggie W.S. card. When I was 12, that would have been the pack of the year!
All the cards that looked like a shot at a 9 were put in card savers as I opened packs. I came up with over 100 cards. I'll give them another once over. Then I'll check them against my set. I'm hoping that I will have enough cards to push my set over 75% and then use the free submissions to get some more graded.
Overall, I will come up with a bunch of 10s from this box. I was hoping to pull a nice Ryan or Murray as I need those cards for my set, but it didn't happen.
On a side note, I just bought off ebay a 1978 wax pack at PSA 5 for about $11. I figured it was cheaper than submitting!
I tried not to rip all 9 packs but of course couldn't help myself. After opening the Murray pack, I ripped 4 packs without even a minor star so I kept going. Turned out OK, the off center cards were the commons. I was hoping for the Brett, such a great unposed picture of him.
That Yaz card has always been one of my all-time favorites. It takes me back to being 8 and opening packs looking for it. Great rip fella's - glad you all are so happy with the packs and cards. Rich
I'm hunting for the following 35 cards for my 1978 set registry. I'm looking for raw canidates that should grade PSA 9 or better or will consider buying already PSA mint graded items. My set contains only 9 & 10's.
Plus, it will be cool to see u guys recoupe a little of "your green"!

I've got #347 Terry Forster PSA 9 and #110 Richie Zisk PSA 9...not from the case break, but they are available for a nice premium
The Forster was especially hard with snow and centering issues.
I probably have several of the commons ungraded in PSA 9 or 10 condition as well. I'll check and let you know. Unless someone else has already offered of course.

Indeed. On the upside, it's quite the nice type of dilemma to have.
Depending on your plans for the rest of the box I would consider opening the rest of the box and seeing if you don't luck into a second Murray.
If you do, then you have the best of all worlds. If not then you have weigh your options.
Personally, I'd be rather tempted to see the quality of the card given the overall quality in the case thus far.
