My 89 donruss wasn't bad, although the centering could've been better. Did anyone else get 16 cards in their pack?

    Here's my '89 Donruss:

    image

Was never a huge fan of Will the Thrill... but I'd say at least 2 out of every 3 friends I went to school with at the time loved the guy. As for Grace, he's a class act --- and it pains me to say that being a die-hard Cards fan.

jfkheat, nice pull on the Schilling RC!

blindflyer, one of my fondest sports memories as a kid was the 1989 NLCS and the hit-for-hit battle between Clark and Grace.

And I'm a Sox fan from Boston! image

Pulled the old Bash Brothers out of my 89 pack. Brings back memories of the 89 world series. I was 14 and my dad took me to game 3 for my birthday. Then that damn quake hit just before the game started. What a birthday present that was

    Here's my 89 Score...

    Some great names:

    image

    Rest of the pack

105 Danny Tartabull...He has a shout out to George Costanza on the back!
    133 Charlie Leibrant
    113 Rafael Ramirez
281 Roger McDowell...He has a shout out to Jerry Seinfeld on the back. The second spitter.
    345 Rich Gedman
    348 Ted Power
343 Danny Heep...He was set to go to architectural school after the released him in '86. I wonder if he interviewed with Art Vandalay.
492 Zane Smith...Score says, "Zane was one of the best left handers in the league in 1988 despite a losing record." The dude was 5-10 with a 4.30 ERA.
    488 Shawn Hillegas
    472 Joaquin Andujar
    623 Carlos Quintana rc
    643 Cameron Drew rc

What is really hitting my hard, however, is the realization that I'm getting old. I'm still a month away from turning 30, but this bust is really taking me back to my childhood. Check out the BACK of the Grace & Maddux cards ----- look how young these guys were back then!

    image

Thanks again, Gary --- we're only at the '89's but already this bust has been a lot of fun!

1989 Score.... Well. It was better than my previous 3 packs.

Some hobby names from '89. Galarraga, HoJo, Gary Gaetti.

A very nice Alomar. Is he a future HOFer?

My '89 Score pack was the baseball analyst special.

I remember in the early '80s Sax had a mental block of some kind about throwing to first and committed an astounding number of errors as a result.

1989 Bowman... Back to the "Yikes" pattern.

Three young studs of the day: Gregg Olson, Rico Brogna, and Todd Stottlemyre.

Bob Boone looks like he is 137 years old.

I liked the father/son/son cards in this set.

I think I got a Pete Rose in every pack I cracked, except 80 topps. 81 Donruss, 81 Fleer, 83 Fleer, 83 Topps, 88 Topps. Nothing great, centering wise, but it was fun to get all those Petes. My favorite card I got was a 1982 Topps Garvey that took me right back to buying boxes for $9.90 at Smart and Final back in 82 and opening them in my parents room. The Garvey will 9 or 10, so that is a bonus for this Dodger fan!

I would do this pack rip again in a minute, just let me know.

Is it me or did Jeff Robinson have a very brief moment when his RCs were being scooped up (maybe started a season 4-0 or 5-0 or something like that)? That '88 Donruss is his rookie, right?

I very well may be WAY off on this one. image
