Well, I got a little impatient and opened my 85 Fleer pack.....best card I got is scanned. Starting to get antsy as far as opening.....I want to open them all.......I think I'm going to send this in for grading.

Does anyone know if PSA grades sportflics cards??? I got a Clemens that I think is worthy but don't want to send it in to just have them return it.....

I believe that they do. If I recall they are part of the many player sets.

Ripped the '86 Sportsflic pack...not much. But, did get a TRI-STAR "Repeat Batting Champs" card with Dave Parker, Bill Madlock & Pete Rose. The other two cards were Greg Walker & Jeff Reardon. So, nothing spectacular. I don't like the way these look when you scan them, so I'll skip the scan on these.

I hope that I have some decent look with those '85s. image

  • Great scans, love the '86 Donruss.

It's amazing to me how solid of a design '86 Donruss verses the very unappealing '86 Fleer. I'm undecided about how the '86 Topps looks. image

  • Sorry I have been lax in my sharing of scans. Here are scans of the stars I received in my 1989 through 1986 packs.
So far I have been very lucky. The 89 UD Griffey Jr I previously posted and the 86 Fleer Canseco/Plunk shown below.
I am looking forward to 1985 trough 1980, but I am extremely hapy with my results thus far.

NYYDM23 - noticed you were interested in Mattingly items. Don't know if you have this card or not but it is available. Mattingly 1986 Topps Super PSA 8. I've sent PM with price.

They sure do. I have a bunch in my Mattingly master set.

If anyone pulls any Paul O'Neill rookies from their 86 fleer or donruss packs Id be happy to take them off your hands !

  • Guys.... I'm still way behind on the rip .... here are the best of my '87's.....

1987 Fleer .... I love the look of this set ... and really like the photography of these two. Mookie looks like a real bad a$$.
    image

1987 Donruss .... Three HOF's in one pack ... nice!
    image

1987 Topps ... horrible pack, but I got what looks like a 44 year old rookie and easily one of the best afro's of 1987, and perhaps the first I've ever seen on a guy with two first names. $$$$

  • Here are my '86's .... not near as enjoyable for me as the '87's .... did score a killer Vince Coleman RC ... and the Rose record hit card is really cool.

    image

Interestingly ... the back of the Rose card hails the event the "baseball event of the century" .....

In the 13 years that followed (1987-1999), I believe we saw TWO bigger events of the century, BOTH occuring in 1998 ---- The McGwire HR record and the Ripken iron-man record. Pretty crazy, really ....

Nailed my BEST pull so far in this rip!!!!!

I may send this Donny Baseball into PSA under the $5 special. It's a beauty!

...and I threw the Expos sticker up In Memoriam. A classic logo and memorable team. Still sad to see them gone. R.I.P.

  • My '85 Topps pack was definitely a trip back down memory lane, but wasn't very fruitful. Although, back in '85, a Mark Langston regular issue rookie would've been something! Even with this huge wax stain on the back. image

    Clay Christiansen
    Dave Anderson
    Julio Cruz
    Greg Pryor
    Marty Castillo
    Rick Leach
    Ricky Horton
    Rick Rhoden
    Gene Garber
    Dwayne Murphy

.....cool little trivia questions on the back of the cards...forgot about those....hope the '84s (especially my beloved Donruss) produce some nice results image

You guys think busting packs is fun, try having all these sets in binders and getting to take an epic journey down memory lane whenever you wish. image Or at least I can once I get new shelves... image

BTW, that 1987 Topps set that one guy busted is one of my favorites. Very nice design front and back.

  • well nothing special in my 84 fleer pack but a cool pic of a younger torre. I didnt realize he has been a manager for so long he must be getting old. Oh well go yanks. And this sisk is razor sharp gonna submit it with my nov special
    image
  • This pack didn't open up like all of the others that I've opened recently. Not saying it was tampered with, but it sure seemed weird with what looked like a little glue. But, I hope I'm only overreacting and that the rest of you end up with perfectly centered Mattinglys, Ripkens & Ryans (among other 'star' cards image )...I ended up with sweet Lou and a card that was sort of popular rookie in the So Cal area in the mid 80s of A.Hawkins.

  • I've got some catching up to do. Sorry about the delay guys. image

Nothing to write home about but I did pull some Sox so I'm happy. I still remember being 8 years old and spending all my vacation money on '85 Topps packs at Cape Cod. I was so happy just to pull Red Sox players ... things haven't changed much. image

Gotta love the Francona photo. So much for keeping your eye on the ball, huh? Good thing he's a better manager than a player. Another weird thing about this card is that on the back the copyright says "1984 Donruss" despite the fact that it's an '85. Weird.

How does someone with the name Razor Shines not become a superstar? Baffling. image

  • 80'sjunkie, I think that I might want that Dravecky from you, if possible. Tom, I've got a couple here that look pretty spiffy as the pack produced about 5 PSA 9 possible cards! Best I've had in awhile! Not a lot of stars, but I was looking for PSA possible stuff and I found it. That Jerry Remy is normally a tough card to find centered. I had to show the Boggs although it was O/C image

    image

    ....the rest went like this....

Bobby Clark (solid 9, possible 10)
Onix Concepcion (seems like a pretty solid 9)
    Bob Knepper (o/c)
Scott Ullger (looks like an 8)
    Garry Maddox (o/c)
Ed Whitson (looks like a strong 8)
    Larry Pashnick (o/c)
Jeff Jones (possible 8, but had corner ding)
    Tom Niedenfuer (o/c)
    Dane Iorg (o/c)
    Dickie Thon (o/c)

.....all in all, it was a good pack for me. With this nice centering in my pack, I sure hope one of you ends up with that Mattingly and Joe Carter PSA 10 that is lurking in one of our packs! Good luck! image
