david andrews done for the season. shoulder surgery

Jacoby is sitting in some closet right now crying his eyes out. 🤣
As bad as their OL is, that is a huge loss for this offense.

    Only to get worse lol

It might be time for someone in the organization to try convincing 76yr old Dante Scarrnechia to come out of retirement and fix this mess. Help us Obi wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope! 😎

Adams probably wouldn’t want any part of coming to New England but for a second rounder plus some later picks, I’d be making that call if I were the Pats GM. He’d got three years left on his deal (2024-26) but he’d be extremely expensive though at 35M/yr for those next two.

Not feeling Davante Adams at 31, he isn't going to do a thing for us long term except be a lot of money tied up with an aging skill. set.

A month ago I would have said the same but seeing that their offense might be worse than last season , I’d definitely consider it. A lot would depend on that additional compensation too.

Edit: last season’s offense averaged 13.9 ppg, so far this season it’s 13.0

i wasn't a mac jones hater or a defender but he was not the issue obviously. Jacoby is a better QB overall but we are worse now.

I blame kraft , he was cheap with the coaching staff and cheap with player signings.

Tom Brady really was everything , the downside is it convinced Bill he could actually coach and convinced kraft he also knew what he was doing.

Brady covered for both of those boobs

Brady was the bra that held it all together

Great, you mentioned Mac, now we’re likely going to get a 1000 word comment from you know who defending Mac. 😉

As far as Mac goes, I fully agree that BB did him wrong but let’s not pretend that NE let a great one get away, At best he’s probably slightly better than Brissett. McDaniels play calling made him look better than he actually was.

As for the part about Brady, Bobby K and Bill Belichick the evil Sith Lord, we’ve known all of this for years. That’s not something new.

i dont know if bill boobichek did mac wrong . i'm saying boobichek was and is a complete fraud and i just like to mention it constantly
    i can't stress it enough
also pervert krafty is dumber than a sack of doorknobs and disingenuous too

he needs to admit publicly that he is brain damaged before ill be satisfied

I bet it’s from all of those nights as Meek Mill’s wingman at all of those Diddy Freakoffs. 😎

diddy supposedly drugged meek mill and had his way with him. Wonder if kraft was there ?

perhaps kraft and meek later bonded over some mysterious shared trauma :#

Since you rang lol. No 1000 word comment other than Mac is better than Brissett. Never liked the Mac pick anyways.

Just please keep Maye on the bench this year. Theres going to be a top notch WR at the top of the second round in the draft if teams dont go crazy for them in the first

I have zero control over what Maye Maye or Maye not do this season and if I did, he’d be locked in some room somewhere pumping out autographs for me. 😉👍

Ofcourse Ju Ju Smith pretty much matched his entire Patriots career production in last night's game alone.

I dont get it. Theres too many games left. Either hes bad and takes a bunch of unnecessary hits and some fans start to hate him, or hes good and they mess around and win 5or 6 games getting a significantly worse draft spot.

oh boy. I was hoping he would sit most of the year.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,006 ✭✭✭✭✭

Here's hoping he gives this offense a shot of adrenaline and the OL can hold up. I do think that he'll find more ways to get their WRs involved more. We'll still need the backfield to keep running hard like they have been to make life easier for him.

I do get a kick out of the local media trying to call that loss to Miami the team’s worst loss since Brady left. IMO a 15-10 outcome seems so much better than the 38-3 loss to Dallas last season or the 34-0 spanking by the Saints the following week.

    I hear you dude.
I was hoping he would sit for the next 17 1/2 years and we could tank all those years and go about 3-248. Then with all those high draft picks we would without a doubt win about
    48-50 straight super bowls.
Authentic modern day patriot fan gibberish or no?

    LOL

If you followed the Patriots you would understand that the OL and the WR corp is a hopeless situation, why would we want our rookie QB to go in there where he is set up for failure and his confidence shot?

You throw out those snarky comments anytime we talk about how bad our team is and not wanting Maye to get destroyed like the long list of other QB's entering dumpster fires.

To make it clear since your so fixated on what we talk about the consensus is we want to save him and hopefully get a good OL and WR in the draft and FA next year, there is nothing wrong with that

It does make me curious why a team would play a rookie even when the sentiment is to have him sit, watch, and learn. What is the impetus for starting him now? Just the general trend in the league to put QBs out there before they’re ready?

It really makes no sense, I would put him in here and there to get some game experience but to shoulder an absolute dumpster fire if offense on this kid is ridiculous, just another example of coaches making questionable decisions

How do you sign free agents in the off season if the team isn’t trying to win? Who would want to play there. Like it or not the pats are quickly becoming a laughingstock because of the losing mentality. They need to put in their franchise qb and try to win games like they’re apparently going to do and get the fans to support the decision.

NE’s lack of talent on offense and the need to fix it through high picks in the draft is going to take more than one draft class to fix, especially when no high end free agent is looking to sign here.

Their three biggest needs heading into this past draft were arguably three of the toughest positions to fill in football:
    1. a starting franchise QB
    2. a legit starting caliber Left Tackle who could start day one
    3. a WR1 who plays the X spot.
NE was able to draft Maye at 3 but with their 2nd pick at 34 there wasn’t a day 1 starter at tackle or someone who could immediately step in at WR and create mismatches against defenses so NE’s front office traded back a bit and eventually grabbed a WR & Tackle with their 2nd & 3rd pick. Both players have played very well to this point but neither project to be a LT or X WR1 long term so another high pick draft class is needed.

A lot of fans wanted NE to trade that Drake Maye 3rd overall pick for a package of multiple high picks and then build out the roster before finding their QB. Instead, the team loved Drake’s game so picking him at 3 just meant that they’d need another draft class to hopefully find their LT & WR1, again two positions that are usually found only in the top 30-35 each year. Before someone hits us with the you could find great WRs in later rounds trope, yes, many teams do but New England’s history of finding and developing elite wideouts has been atrocious.

That all being said, winning an additional 3-5 games in 2024 does nothing but hurt their chances at improving this offense over the long haul. They’re not contending for a playoffs spot with this roster currently as constructed. They need more high end talent and that talent, for the most part, is found with first round picks. It’s as simple as that.

It’s the lack of a starting caliber Left Tackle that is hurting them most and most fans worst fear with this team. Over the first four games there were four different players that started at that spot (Vederian Lowe just made his second start on Sunday.)

The offense could clearly make do with their current core of pass catchers but if the protection isn’t there for the QB to be able to throw the ball then the entire offense grinds to a halt.

My holdup with Maye has always been, don’t play him until you feel that your OL is capable of protecting him on a regular basis whether that be in week 6, week 16 or week 1 in 2025.

True but it’s much easier to fill in those inner spots than it is that spot that protects your QB’s backside. That guy usually faces the best of the best pass rushers all game long each and every week.

I hate our WR corps straight up

I like both Polk & Douglass a lot but Thornton & Osborn could leave tomorrow and wouldn’t be missed. I’d say the jury is still out on Baker & Boutte though, haven’t seen enough of either to write them off yet. Kendrick Bourne is solid but if he’s their #1 guy then that passing offense isn’t very good overall. That all being said,if they could find one wideout that could win 1 on 1 on the outside and that whole group drops down a spot on the depth chart to where they should normally be.

if i'm a Pats fan i definitely want Maye in there -- for no other reason than to stick some experience under his belt and help him become acclimated to the speed of the NFL. that won't happen holding a clipboard. Williams, Daniels and Nix are all out there playing..........he should be too, imo. Jimmy Johnson tossed Troy Aikman into the fire his RC season on a team that was very 2024 New England Patriots-esque. that Cowboys team was horrendous (1-15) and so was he (9 TDs, 18 INTs), but he turned out ok.

i personally would not be able to stomach a 13-16 loss season AND zero glimpses of the future signal caller. it's gonna suck, it's gonna be ugly and the road to recovery is going to be a long, winding one, but if the kid shows flashes it'll at least inject the fanbase with optimism. something that simply isn't there right now.

Galaxy, I agree with everything you just posted but Pats fans also need to be practical at the same time. This current offensive line is a hot mess right now, they’ve allowed the second most sacks (19 in 5 games) and they’re QB hits allowed total (49) is probably close to leading the league as well. Two starting Olinemen just got placed on IR, one was season ending. (David Andrews their starting center and the one linemen that they could ill afford to lose)

I want to see Drake Maye starting as soon as possible but not if it means the line can’t protect him and that is the real issue right now in New England. He maybe a rookie like Williams, Daniels & Nix but his supporting cast is far less talented than any surrounding those three other rookie QBs. Belichick left the cupboards close to completely bare on their offensive line and a couple of rookies and a few PS castoffs aren’t getting the job done right now.

I agree put Maye in and find out if he is your franchise QB. If he does well under this much adversity that’s a huge boost to his confidence. Run a lot of screens and short pass plays so he’s not sitting back there trying to avoid a constant rush. Get him some experience so he can hit the ground running next year.

You guys are clearly not watching this football team lol, this has been their entire offense going on 2+ years now. Their M.O. has been to run it/screen pass/short pass to try getting the first down. Their OLine doesn’t give the QB enough time to even wait for his WRs to get open. THAT is the real issue here, their line can’t protect long enough to allow plays downfield to progress and it makes their play calling extremely predictable. If you were watching their games you’d see that.

To be clear I wasn't ever saying I wanted Maye to ride the bench all.year, I was talking more like given the keys by week 10.

I understand the experience factor for sure, I think he can get a solid idea of the speed and dynamics of live NFL action by playing 7 or 8 games, I just don't want to see him running for his life and taking a beating for 12 + games

in the seasons first 5 games, the patriots have used 5 different offensive lines. soes that sound like a recipe to keep a starting quarterback in one piece? I dont have a problem with starting rookie quarterbacks. I do have a problem with starting rookie quarterbacks who will have a high likelyhood of season ending injury because of terrible line play.

and yes, it will take more than one draft to right this ship. why would I be hoping for a meaningless 4-6 win season when we could be earning better draft capital? The pats have enough rings to hold me over for a few more years...

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

If I could speak for all Pats fans here, we absolutely want to see Drake Maye under center as soon as possible. There’s a lot to like with his game and he is, for the most part, the only real hope that this team has for their near future.
Since Brady left we’ve had to endure Cam Newton, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and Jacoby Brissett at quarterback. We went from being spoiled for years with Tom to basically the Larry,Moe,Curly & Shemp of NFL Quarterbacks 😎 Believe me when I say Drake’s time can’t come soon enough, we just don’t want to see it end prematurely because they couldn’t pass block at an average level.

No one wants to watch their favorite teams repeatedly lose, it’s just in this case, those losses piling up would give them the ability to rebuild this offense, to at least a respectable level, much sooner than expected.

i will say this. i'm in lockstep with Mayo's decision, but not the timing of it. why not last week against a crap Dolphins team? the Texans are a very curious starting point. they have made life hell for opposing QBs so far this season. go take a gander at Josh Allen's numbers last week.

Miami’s defense would have been a somewhat easier test than Houston’s but I’m just assuming that Mayo just thought that the Miami game was winnable with Brissett. They actually came close to pulling off the win but this Polk TD rightfully got overturned. Had that catch actually counted, this debate would have likely been pushed off for another week or two.
