Theres some legs to the Mayo getting moved on from rumors. It generally doesnt go well for coaches calling out their team when they arent established great coaches. Weve seen that happen before in pro sports and some coaches have lost their jobs before for doing it

Id be surprised if it happened soon, but I wouldnt really say its just talk show hosts making headlines either

Bob Kraft decided Jerod Mayo would be his next head coach back in 2019 five years before Belichick was fired, he's not going to fire Mayo as a result of 1-6 start to his coaching career. The only "legs" to this story is coming from people not associated with this football team lol (i.e., people who get paid to create football content.)

100 percent agree the record wouldnt be the issue. Whatever legs these rumors have are more from his public comments not the record. I would absolutely agree theres nothing there had it not been for the comments hes been trying to walk back, Padres manager did the same thing like 3 years ago and just wasnt brought back after the season when the players started to despise him for it. Pats players will have a big impact on it but I just wouldnt completely brush it off with comments like that after games

The NE media spent 20+ years bitching about Belichick not being more open with them and angry at how at times Bill treated them all like crap and NOW all of those same reporters are criticizing Mayo for being the complete opposite of BB.

Mayo has been nothing but cordial, open & up front about pretty much everything regarding what the media needs to know and these vultures practically feast on and dissect every single word he says to the point that that next time he's in front of a microphone he's forced to have to walk back some previous comment he made. This "Soft team" remark that needs walking back is like the 4-5th time they've done this since he was named HC.

IMO, he doesn't need to walk back anything after calling his team out for continuing to play like shit. We've seen these same players play considerably better than they are currently are and its about time that they showed it and be held accountable rather than everyone just blaming the rookie head coach. The WRs (Polk,Douglas & Boutte) have talked an exorbitant amount of shiat this season for three players that accomplished zero in the NFL other than getting drafted.

I dont think he really said anything wrong, just that he did it publicly as a first year HC. It was kind of a weird game to pick too since you really can kind of just brush anything off that happens in the weird London time slot.

Some of the blame has to be on him too for the play. They have an excuse for the offense which does look a lot better now but for sure the defense took a step back. Boutte is going to be a talker, always has been. By all means chew them out behind closed doors.

I dont really care how the media is taking it or what the papers write, but someone seems to be leaking something. I have no idea what the pulse of that locker room is, but it has become an issue for other coaches before that had a very short career as a head coach even on decent teams as a result of it. Its a dangerous spot for a coach when it turns from performance to calling out the team and now players have to defend themselves instead of their play

Polk at least got his possibly worse performance out of the way, even if he tries I don't think he can be that bad again.

Boutte I have/had high hopes for after Belichick but he might prove me wrong

That's how Spooky was at the end so I wouldn't wait to long before you go to the vet, just be ready to get extorted for as much cash as possible before your cat goes. We had to go to two different vets and ultimately paid $1k+ total on both visits with the 2nd place (a 24hr office in Boston) recommending a $6K treatment that had no guarantee of recovery. My daughter was devastated, she's 26 and raised Spooky for 13years, he was almost like her kid.

He obviously has a Halloween themed name and any other year she'd be breaking out his Halloween costumes right around now to take pics of him and he happily suffer through that indignity just to get those cat treats when she's done lol. He's definitely going to be missed.
    Good luck with Sophia.

Pops complained about the lack of targets early in the year and now he's getting thrown to.
Polk proclaims he's got the best hands in football and he's got 1 pass in 7 targets since where each hit his hands.
Boutte is still make remarks about last year, Bill is gone, get over it already lol.
(edit: we also have Javon "I make people in wheelchairs stand up" Baker who has been MIA since making that remark soon after getting drafted 🤣)

I really like all three and hope that they could eventually develop into the 2-3-4th best WRs on this team with hopefully a WR1 found at some point in the near future. IMHO, all three just need to stop talking and start performing.

ive been through the wringer with vets before , now i let them go on thier own terms.
i had a boxer with an enlarged heart that cost me about 10 grand about a decade ago now i avoid all vets unless its an injury of some sort.
i dont want her to suffer so i just try to figure when its close and bring her one time .
you have to have the right vet though , so many seem to want it to be a way to string you along. billable hours instead of low intervention

the old decent vets are dying or retiring and being replaced by a bad crowd , most are worse than strip mall dentists

as the season has progressed i've wanted the Jets to be completely, thoroughly & unequivocally humilated, and no offense to you guys or your team, but it reached the pinnacle today

Pats are not great either but to grind out a W today was glorious

It was great to see that late comeback today and from all reports it sounds like Maye was in high spirits after the game which is a good sign.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 8,998 ✭✭✭✭✭

Forgot to mention this earlier but it was good seeing Kayshon Boutte redeeming himself with his two receptions on that final drive. Outside of those two plays, the wide receivers were pretty subpar today. Garrett Wilson on the other hand seemed like he just made big play after big play just days after seeing his name in numerous trade rumors online.

The drops are infuriating though, by the team collectively not just Boutte

I think the entire day was filled with drops across the league though, interesting tidbit though that it was "National TE Day" and all TE's combined had the most receptions ever for the day yesterday

He had a breakout season in 2022 with 11.5 sacks but then was pretty meh in 2023. Part of his success could have been tied to Matt Judon though, Judon (15.5) & Uche (11.5) were a great pass rushing tandem in 2022 but in 2023 Judon's season ended after just 4 games due to injury and Uche didn't have the same type of impact without him.

On the plus side, he won't cost KC much, just that 6th rounder, and his salary is just 3M for this season. Maybe playing on a really good defense like the Chiefs have and actually contending for the SB gives Uche a little more motivation to play harder. There's really no downside to this pickup.

So if I read this correctly the concussion protocol came from the league

I'm cool with the team or the league being overly cautious with him this week when there's zero reason to rush him back out there. The only significance to this upcoming NE/TENN game this Sunday may just be one team owning a tiebreaker over the other in regards to next year's draft order.

I sort of do hope that he's at least ready to go for the Bears game a couple weeks from now so we get Drake Maye vs Caleb Williams.

I was more surprised that he got dinged up on the play, to Me he didn't look like he even got hit in the head that bad more so just grazed but maybe I missed something, like the Ohtani injury I didn't see anything there either so what do I know lol

But sure I'm glad the league is being proactive on this for sure

Yup, for years it was Bill knew when to move on from player a year early rather than a year late.
You could probably put together an All Star team of players that he felt couldn't contribute any longer or weren't worth paying. These are just some that I could name off the top of my head...
    QB: Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo
OL: Nate Solder, Logan Mankins, Damien Woody, Joe Thuney, Shaq Mason
    RB: Shane Vereen, Sony Michel
WR: Deion Branch, Danny Amendola, David Givens
    TE: Ben Watson, Daniel Graham
DL: Richard Seymour. Vince Wilfork, Trey Flowers, Chandler Jones
LB: Jamie Collins, Mike Vrabel, Tully Banta-Cain, Kyle Van Noy
S: Lawyer Milloy, Patrick Chung, Tebucky Jones
CB: Ty Law, Malcolm Butler, Kyle Arrington, Logan Ryan, Asante Samuel (good riddance on that last one 😎)
    K: Adam Vinatieri
    P: Josh Allen

Moss as in Randy Moss? IIRC there were reports that Moss shoved Pats OC Bill O'Brien during a MNF game and was traded to the Vikings within the next day or two. I remember reading that he was complaining about not feeling the love in NE but his play fell off big time in that 2010 season. He went from 83/1264/13 in 2009 to 9/139/3 in 4 games with the Pats before that drama with BoB that got him shipped out.

I wish they would have kept Moss. He and Brady had a great connection and I think he had another couple of seasons left in him.

Drake Maye is a go to play today which is good news.

On the trade front, it looks like quite a few Pats players are coming up in trade rumors, most notably Kyle Dugger which is a surprise considering that he's 8 games into a new four year deal. With Jabril Peppers likely a goner after his assault/drug arrest, trading Dugger would be a really odd move.

Kendrick Bourne,Tyquan Thornton, KJ Osborn and Davon Godchaux are also names being mentioned.
    https://www.patspulpit.com/2024/11/2/24286237/patriots-moving-kyle-dugger-nfl-trade-deadline-rumors

edit: Thornton & Osborn are both healthy scratches for today's game which could be a good indicator that they're both gone soon.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,632 ✭✭✭✭✭

I like them today, I think they beat Tennessee although I'd feel better about it if Will Levis was playing since he might be almost as bad as Anthony Richardson

I don't wish to come down too hard on the Patriots rookie head coach. But here was the situation. Your offense just had a nice drive, scored a touchdown, to come within one point of tying the game with an extra point. No time left on the game clock. The opponent's defense is obviously gassed, your offense has the momentum, let's be honest your team won't even sniff the playoffs, and it's still a long season yet ahead of rebuilding. Really by far, not even debatable, without question the wisest option was to go for the two points, and try to win the game right there. You had the edge based on the situation, but refused to take advantage of it.

Of course you still may have won the game anyway. However the bottom line is you didn't. Chalk it up to experience.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,632 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm disappointed, I really thought they were going to handle them today.

It probably would have been better if Levis played but whatever, draft pick... draft pick....

great game tying play , defense wasnt great in OT , but it was fun to watch at points which it mostly has not been this season.

NE signs G Tyrese Robinson off of the Vikings practice squad (Never heard of this guy.)

There's also a report that they're interested in free agent tackle DJ Humphries who previously spent 9 seasons with the Cards. He started 15 games in 2023 before tearing his ACL in late December. He's also started every game in his NFL career
(98 games,) If his knee looks good I'd take that chance.

Another report had them in on Jags LT Cam Robinson who ultimately ended up in Minnesota.
