Not that they'll look anywhere close to being great with him but if NE's center David Andrews goes down with another injury then they're officially doomed. They need a starting Left Tackle badly but a capable backup at the Center position is a huge need too. Hopefully, a somewhat reliable one gets waived or released over the next week that some team has no need for.

Big hopefully but as we all know OL especially good ones are tough to come by

especially if paying players more than 20 bucks an hour is ruled out by an owner because it would cramp his day spa budget.

Kendrick Bourne to PuP for at least 4 games which probably means Thornton sticks.

These are the only other "names" that have been cut so far. You gotta think that at least one the first two RBs probably makes it to the PS.
    Kevin Harris
    Terrell Jennings
    Armon Watts
    Joshua Bledsoe

Brissett officially named the starter. my head tells me it is the right decision.

the only thing i take umbrage at is when Mayo called it a "competition" what we saw was definitely not a competition. if that were the case, the QB who played better would have won. instead, the vet signed on a 1 year contract was chosen as the sacrificial lamb. I get what happened, but dont call it a competition when it wasnt.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

Interesting that some websites have the Patriots over/under wins for the season at 4.5 and some at 5.5

If ya play both sides of this line, get lucky and catch the number of wins at exactly 5, you would win both bets. A rare opportunity in sports betting whereby the odds may be in your favor. If the Patriots win 4 games or less, or win 6 games or more, you would of course lose money because of the juice, but only lose the amount of the juice from one bet.

I haven't placed a sports bet in around 25 or 30 years, whatever it is. However I'm tempted to do this one with the odds in my favor. But I'm just going to stick to the stock market. I wouldn't wish to hurt FanDuel's or DraftKing's earnings for the year. 😉

    :D

sounds good but the devil is in the details

the 32 million was probably all incentive bonuses

Probably required him to hit outrageous numbers , like 4 TD's and 200 yards per season. Which with brisset and the about to be resigned bagboy zappe at QB are very unlikely

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 8,998 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looks like we got more details about that Aiyuk offer since that article was posted, its from the same source, Si's Bert Breer:
"When Breer was pressed on the $10 million difference, he responded: "It exceeded 80 (million), exceeded 80. It was well over 80. It was well over 80. And I would tell you this, too, the first three years were virtually guaranteed."

With a four year offer like that for an elite 25yr old wideout, he would have have been paid his entire salary for those four years. The guarantees would have been irrelevant. His total, without additional incentives, would have paid just under 130M.

Sometimes its difficult to remember but back before Kraft gave Belichick control over the team's checkbook, he had made Drew Bledsoe & Ty Law the highest paid players at their positions. (IIRC Bledsoe's was the largest QB contract in NFL history, at the time)

10-0 at the half, who are these Patriots and where the hell have they been all summer? 🤣

Well apparently Jerod Mayo can coach at the NFL level. 😎👍

    edit: From ESPN
With their win over the Cincinnati Bengals, the New England Patriots (+7.5) pull off the biggest NFL Week 1 upset since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+10) did so against the New Orleans Saints in 2018. Jerod Mayo is the first head coach to win his debut as at least a 7-point underdog since Jason Garrett did it for the Cowboys in 2010, per ESPN Stats & Information.

Condolences to you guys for the win.
Or was that just a 1 year thing and now you’re hoping they win. Can’t tell with Pats fans. 🤔

Burrow and the Bengals are atrocious the first few games of the season, so I'm not really as surprised as I should they couldn't do much against a tough Pats D

right? defense did ok , a few take aways plus not a lot of mistakes on offense and we managed to win a low scoring game.
    sorta :D

Jacoby got up pretty slow after a couple of those hits yesterday. I would not be surprised at all if he gets knocked out after a few games and we get to see the real QB soon!!

    hats off to Mayo

i don't care how deficient your roster is.........play defense like that and it'll keep you in games and give you a chance to win

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

The OL was phenomenal giving up just one one sack and only had a single penalty called against them. NE also rushed for 170yds.

The defense just kept making play after play. Dugger had a hand in Gesicki’s TD that was overturned and on the very next play he forced a fumble of the other Bengals TE right at the goal line. Jonathan Jones had a massive hit on a Bengals 4th & 2 play that stopped Cincy a yard short. Keion White had 2.5 sacks.

Perk, a lot of people are pointing out The Bengals usually start slow but this team shouldn’t have been anywhere close to Cincy’s level. It was a great overall win to start Mayo’s coaching career.

If you mean his 3 receptions for a whopping 18yards then yeah he actually did get better. His replacement Austin Hooper has already outplayed him after just one game lol. Not gonna lie though, when he caught that TD in the endzone, my first thought was where was that guy last year? Then replay showed that he did drop it proving that he's still the great Mike Gesicki we all know & love. 🤣

  • stevekstevek Posts: 28,989 ✭✭✭✭✭

i saw on one website that I follow, that the Patriots just dropped from odds of 350-1 to 310-1 to win the Super Bowl. Get your bets in soon before the odds drop to even money. 😉

Look, congrats on the opening day win. But I'd say before getting too giddy about this season's Patriots. I've seen a lot of this before when a team in their opening game or so, steps it up for their new coach. But that adrenaline is rarely, if ever sustained for a team with 310-1 odds. Those odds are that high for a reason. Bookies aren't in the habit of giving away free money.

So in my opinion, the Patriots are still around a 5-12 type team for the season, and perhaps they can build on that for the seasons to follow.

The key to success of this new coach is not their opening day win, but how he perseveres when the team goes thru an inevitable losing streak this season which will happen without a doubt. Let's see how the Patriots perform after two or three straight losses. That is what will determine whether or not this coach stays in the NFL for a long time, or does a two or three year stint before getting fired, and never again hired as a head coach in this league.

Bob Kraft is hoping that he can create enough HOF buzz where his nomination gets talked into existence. This article got posted on ESPN and now I’m seeing additional stories everywhere and videos about it on YT.
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41073940/the-secret-history-robert-kraft-hall-fame-quest

The odds of it happening would likely go up if he actually let it alone, from what I’ve read he’s been trying to make this happen for years now.

I was just thinking how lucky us Pats fans are that the Kraft/Belichick marriage ended when it did. Had it happened just 3-4 years ago when Bobby K was still in his Meek Mill wingman days, who knows what type of horrible roster decisions he would have made? I can just imagine Kraft trying to impress some 22yr old chick by signing her favorite football player on Tik-Tok during free agency.
You just know that some idiot owner has done something stupid like that over the years like Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder. Lucky for us Kraft sounds like he can barely put together a coherent thought these days.

It’s been pretty funny seeing Bill literally everywhere since leaving the Pats, if there’s an opportunity to get paid, he’s taking it. Just in the past few days he was in a DoorDash commercial and there was one for another company just last Sunday. He might not go back to coaching at the NFL level.

The sad part about it is, had he just let it happen organically he probably would have been voted in by now. All that effort to make it happen has just rubbed the voters the wrong way and just delayed it even longer.

    It CAN happen

I think it will come down to how Brissett and the offense plays going forward especially their OL. Their defense will keep them in most games and hopefully the offense doesn’t play them out of them.

This was a pretty crazy stat that I heard the other day and had to double check to see if it was actually true: Jacoby Brissett is tied with Aaron Rodgers for the best career Interception percentage in NFL history, (minimum of 1500 career passing attempts.)

Prior to Week 2, ESPN BET had a section within their "Exclusive" tab pertaining to the Patriots. I thought I'd share with you what odds that they're offering, in case you'd like to place a wager.

Bob Kraft is hoping that he can create enough HOF buzz where his nomination gets talked into existence. This article got posted on ESPN and now I’m seeing additional stories everywhere and videos about it on YT.

The odds of it happening would likely go up if he actually let it alone, from what I’ve read he’s been trying to make this happen for years now.

kraft is so thirsty he needs to set up an only fans to farm the attention he seeks.

    NPD level maxed out

I'm pretty sure all he would have to do is pull up his bank account or take her on his private plane and shed be impressed lol

Or he could just bust out that winning smile like my boy Mark over here. 🤣

That haircut always blows my mind. It then blows my mind even more that hes that rich and has it lol. I always love when rich guys try and pretend their trophy wives/gfs are just interested in them and not their money

i'm not one to criticize people for their looks. it's extremely uncool and not my style. but Mark Davis is an exception to the rule.

i assume the man is not a virgin. the next time you're stuck in traffic, consider that there's at least one human being with a pulse who has slept with him before

if I was a chick i'd rather be buried alive

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

That’s a good point and I agree. Generally not cool. But if you look like a character from Idiocracy you have to expect some comments about it.
