Keeping this thread on the first page....

Though I don't collect Libertads, 2002 was the first year of release of the Silver Kilo Libertad and I helped Don Bailey carry a few home from a Mexico City show (these suckers are heavy!). I discovered two varieties and purchased them intending to write an article for the USMexNA Journal documenting them. Well, for various reasons, I never got around to writing the article.

When PCGS had the quarterly special with half off oversized holders, I was prompted to get them certified and document the varieties. I have no idea whether later dates have this variety or not, but hopefully this discovery will prompt others to start looking.

I did speak with a Casa de Moneda technical manager about this difference and he told me they punched the mintmark directly into the working die and must have used two different punches. I still haven't learned if this was in error or just happenstance, but research on later dates should confirm this.

It also turns out that 2002 is a pretty tough date despite the somewhat higher mintage.
Could be that many were already melted? I think early date Kilos might be a good...........(wait for it).........investment?!

Bad pics from my cell phone, but a very scarce (maybe rare) variety of a Canadian cent. Not many gray collectors on this thread, I know, but we are here. An 1882-H triple die obverse minted by Heaton. The Heaton 1882-H cents have many interesting "anomalies", including some very scarce double die varieties. This TDO is extremely scarce and previously unknown above EF (PCGS total pop 3 in all grades, so early going). Much harder to find than any of the usually published 1859 cent varieties. Purchased at the Halifax RCNA convention. ICCS MS-64 Red. I would guess 64RB, 63RB on a bad day, at our hosts, but we will probably eventually see. Meanwhile, happy to be here.

Here’s two from my oversize medal submission for this week.

The second one is actually an Austrian medal (1875), but commemorating Mexican Emperor Maximilian posthumously at his castle in Trieste (hence the Italian inscription). The silver version of that medal is an extreme rarity which I’ve never managed to acquire.

Abuelo, I believe it’s pretty scarce. Mine is only AU58, and I’ve never seen another.

Yes, the two bros. It’s an Austrian medal depicting Maximilian of Mexico.

It’s usually in bronze. This is the scarcer nickel version.

I bought these 3 patterns 20-some years ago, but misplaced them during a move in 2016. I finally found them and had them certified. I love that Soho design on the 184x pieces!

I just saw one a 1829 Pi JS MS 64 BN and it is not cheap, wonder if twenty years ago, these were more accessible.

Thank you. Cheaper indeed. I remember paying $350 for my first 1829-PiJS P8R (now PCGS SP64) at the NYINC show in the late 1990s.

I would hope the coins above are more valuable than it, since they are much rarer and more beautiful.

They are asking 22.5k - 350 = Big difference

My guess from dealing with them a few times they would take 20k or close to that amount. Always room for negotiation with them.
