I'll jump in with something totally different. My 1912, in PF-67+ CAC. This coin is so flashy under light, that I have to be careful not to burn my retinas....Not kidding! It's got exquisite original proof set toning, and the 1912 as a proof date just does not come around much....difficult coin! Pop. 4/2 finer at PCGS

@erwindoc - Yes, I saw the CAC PCGS VF30 1896-S too. I honestly wasn't a big fan. The surfaces looked rubbed to me ... it just had an odd look to my eyes. Maybe it would look much better in person? Regardless, I'm not shocked by the final price (> $4,800), as it's a toughie for sure. The green bean also helped.

@coinkat That's a beautiful example! I love the way the coin toned so she kinda sparkles around her eyes, and the hint of a smirk that her lips portray. Does her headband say "concor"?

I noticed that too, but assumed it must just be imaging since both PCGS and CAC gave it a thumbs up. The hunt goes on....

Gold Sticker CAC candidate now. The norm used to be one downgrade (if a crossover) but now seems closer to two.

That is a definite 58.
And I see nothing that would downgrade it, no marks, light cleaning, nothin'.

Here are photos I took of the raw 1899 O Quarter before sending it in. There are some marks that the TrueView Image doesn't capture:
There's also a small "divot" off the corner of the eye; it looks like a small strike thru to me:
It doesn't seem to me that these minor marks would cause the coin to net grade, but by wear it's certainly not a 53.
Here is a really nice dime I just picked up and looks much better than the assigned grade!
Please don't be fooled by the green sticker....it says Watch Dog Coin which I can't even find via Google? It's coming off shortly.
