I got this a while back on the BST for a bit over spot. It's damaged and cleaned but old gold :)

Actually no though. Still never owned one. Nor a 20 cent piece either believe it or not.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I think this classic head is lovely. Its the only one I have in my collection, and the first US gold made in New Orleans - my birth City.

I got a little creative with the image, lol.

Here is a little backstory on where the counterstamp came from.

A wonderful lunch break today indeed! >:)
Stopped by a few thrift stores, got two bowls, a buck each. B)
Right at 11 ozs total for $2.14

But here’s the fun part, the price tag within an inch of the marks on the one:

Looks like your not the only one that got sterling today. My dad came home from work after taking a stop at goodwill. A pair of sterling weighted candle sticks plus a glass pitcher with a sterling base rim.

I don't know where the heck you all live, but in my major city there is ZERO sterling to be found getting dusty in thrift shops. I look all the time. I think there is just a ton more folks out looking to compete with here.

I see people in my area (Western North Carolina) looking for the silver. You just gotta be the one, lucky to be there when it comes out from the back. And, ironically, the farther I drive in search of this stuff, it seems the less I find. It always seems to be right up the road on my lunch break... Weird.

If you take a closer look at the stickers of the candle sticks, they have been placed out the day that my dad bought them. Things that that o pretty quick so I think a element of it to to be lucky and be at the right place at the right time.

Yeah... It seems I am usually late.... No thrift shops close... well, the first two are ten miles away... so usually get there later in the day. Cheers, RickO

My finds are usually in the afternoon, I don't think you necessarily need to be there when they open. Stuff comes out from the back all throughout the day typically...

Thanks! Can't let my dad have all the fun ;)>:) . Decided I wanted get back to searching and surprisingly came home with a good amount of silver. My first big silver find since quarantine started. Got there at the right time too as about 30 seconds after I finished searching a couple others went to the silver platters and started flipping over things.

You should. The silver I found yesterday was from a shop that I very rarely find anything. It’s just being lucky and in the right place at the right time.

Can’t believe how much silver my dad is finding. He came home with this yesterday. Seems like it was overlooked. Been there for 4 days before he bought it according to the label.

If anyone's wondering how much sterling in a weighted candle stick, then here you go.

Broke apart that single one from a week or so ago. 206 grams before and 22.3 grams after. So about 10% the weight.

The inside was also solid concrete and not that plaster stuff so this one took a bit to break apart.

What’s the plan now? Are you going to melt it? Or sell it as is? Or just keep it that way?

If you remember a while back, @LukeMarshall melted poured some sterling in a homemade furnace? Well part of that scrap came from me where we worked out a trade. I'm just accumulating the scrap sterling that I can't sell locally as pieces for another trade with him in the future.
