Congratulations on the 01-S in 40, Darrell. Not many of those exist.

    A nice 1899-P Barber Quarter in VF25
    (PCGS #34185699)
A slight bit of repunching in the date. I will have to procure more detailed pictures. A couple of minor blotchy areas on the plastic tomb is mentioned for accuracy. Do you think it is slightly undergraded?

Here is my second attempt with my camera set-up for more detail. 1899-P PCGS VF25 #34185699. By the way, no RPD after close-up. It was just gunk.

Here is an 1898-S Barber Quarter PCGS VF30 #28661679. Zooming in on the mintmark with my macro setting, I think there is a slight doubling of the mintmark North.

Looks like I also have an 1894-S in PC AU with an RPM.

Tim I like that 1899. It seems to me that your second set of pics is better than the first. The '94 S is fantastic! You must really be working on your photo skills and it shows! I noticed I had to go to the lower half of the 2nd page to get to our thread- we can't have that. So to bring it back to the top I will include what I think will add a touch of beauty to my Dansco set (on it's way from sunny Florida to blustery and snow covered Nebraska, thanks to Lenny):

Tim- since there’s “doubling” showing at the lower serif of the MM only my guess is you found a die chip. I don’t see corresponding doubling at the upper serif. But I’ve been wrong before.

    I love them Barber Halves.....

Interesting, because I do see upper serif doubling. Slightly twisted counter-clockwise. More prominent in the lower area but I sill see it at the top.

Sorry, Glenn. That does not qualify as work around here! Hope all is well!!!

Here's one to make Tim drool. For my variety collection, a common date but look at the reverse STATES... PC-45...
(This is the best example of the "Filled S's" that I've seen. You'll see them from time to time, but not like this one!)

I am currently studying another 1898-S and trying to determine if there is a slight repunching East. Zoomed in on the mintmark and came at it from two different lighting angles. PC XF ...

Two lighting angles of the same mintmark:

Bottom line, inconclusive without further study and stronger lighting.

Have you tried backing off just a hair on your close ups? I believe you will get clearer better results.

Is anyone on the Hayes Megathread trying for a lowball set? of any kind.

Nice coin for a Good condition set. I don't think it is lowball enough for a lowball set. Most Barber coins are plentiful in ag or lower condition. IMHO Barber coins need to be in fair 2 or lower condition to make lowball.

A 1906-P newer acquisition. This one has a bad scratched-holder haze to it. The shadows on the obverse are from the holder and are not toning spots on the coin. PCGS XF.

@Eldorado9, that Shireman looks great. I think you are assembling a wonderful collection there!

Here is a recent newp puchased for the weird stuff going on in the date area.
Will try to get better pics later - these are the seller pics:

This is bit white for my liking but a PC55 none the less.

I received the '08-D yesterday. If there is something going on in the date area, it is hardly noticeable or is faint. Here are my macro set-up pics... and for the first time I am using new bulbs suggested by Jeff @JeffMTampa ... thanks Jeff, great bulbs from Sansi!

    My 1905-S dime, PCGS XF45...

Just conferred with the BCCS Variety Coordinator Steve Hustad who had this to say about the XF45: "Hi Tim, your photos are really improving – very nice shots here! I agree it’s an S/S – West (maybe NW?), slight, but still evident. Not sure if this is the same as another 1905-S/S NW already recorded in my data here, though I’d need to drag that piece out of the safe deposit box to confirm. As an aside, there also may be an RPD involved here with the numeral 9, not quite sure about that though, possibly a 19/905 – North(?). Steve Hustad, BCCS Varieties Coordinator

Vern, thanks for sharing Milo's 1901-S Barber Quarter. Sometimes the acquisition of great coins like that produces opportunities for others. Because of Lenny's support, and Milo's 1901-S, I was able to extend my XF set closer to completion adding this coin:

Thank you Milo for the opportunity. Humbled and happy! BTW, I am continuing to work on improving my picture-taking with my Nikon D7500 macro set-up. This is my picture.
