Jedm, thank you for your comment. I am primarily a liberty seated quarter collector but like Barbers too! Heck I love all 25 cent denominations. If I thought I could put a nice fine/very fine sent of bust and capped I would do that too. I am unfamiliar with all your diagnostic discussions on barbers but understand the concepts from studying seated quarters. I look forward to the education.
All my best to the great forum... and Happy New Year !!!
It is not that life is short, but that you are dead for so very long.
Thanks for bringing in the context of the grades of your beauties John!
Following up with John's '95-S I carved out of his recently shared grouping, here is the much rarer centered mintmark version of the '95-S. In my view, the centered MM version is similar to the situation with the '97-S rarity. @JeffMTampa Jeff has done a recent in-depth study on this. After searching for a good amount of time, I am relieved I have finally been able to grab a lower-grade version. Here is my newp that arrived today:

A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
Best wishes on your quest to build an AU CAC Barber quarter set. It may take longer than you think. My set had been sold last year with my preferred look for an AU coin (it's long gone) below. Check out Lenny and Vern for suggestions.
Labelman87, The set you sold is what got me going on the AU Barber quarters. I bought more than 10 of them from Gerry Fortin. That is the core of my collection including the 1893-O above. My set is listed under Island City Barber quarters CAC. I am going to expand into MS 62-64 with the right looks and pricing. Some are just too expensive for the MS. It is a work in progress along with a major type set. Wish I would have grabbed more of your coins, they all looked great.
Man that holder sure got scuffed up a lot since it was yours. I think if you merge our pictures you have the in hand look. I just took quick pics but I can tell it's going to be a hard coin to capture the look!

Happy New Years! Here's some pix of Darrell's new coin...Congrats!
Hi John, I send all my coins to Vern for photography so credit goes to him. I'll ask him to reply to your question.
Jeff in Tampa is quite handy behind the lens as well. I'm sure he can chime in.
Here's some more of Vern's handiwork. A raw cleaned trio from 1902.
Hi John, based on the advice of Jeff, I use an old Canon 60D camera with a 100mm macro lens, anchored to a Kaiser copy stand. The old Canon camera has software that allows shooting directly from my PC. Glad you like the pics.
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Erwindoc - Would you like to keep the coin long term? If so, I'd say crack it out and put it in an album. Maybe it will tone up a bit. If not, keeping it in a straight graded holder makes more sense. It might not cross due to an old cleaning. I imagine someone has already tried. Not a bad looking 96-S!
Here's one of Milo's spares...PC 53. Pix from Vern's old set-up. (I know how much Jim likes the green dots!)

Leave in holder. It is PCGS-holdered?
I am thinking the surfaces seem a little off - maybe the picture.
Depends. If you have a nice raw set going and this fits the hole I would crack it. If most of your coins are holdered I would leave it. I have a dime set in G/AG raw in a Whitman. If I bought a holdered ....say 1896-s in good to fit the set (and hole) I'd crack it and tape the label to the inside of the folder. Problem is if I had it graded, it would be hard to crack an $80 coin and forgo the $50 encapsulation grading fee.

Here is a recently received newp. In raw AU, the 1895-S Barber Quarter has some good lustre in there. I think I have a variety... RPM West perhaps.
Yep, that's the'95 S RPM. I've been trying to purchase one for the last 6 months but all I've seen were way over priced. Congrats!

I'm with Jed. I like the '93-S as well... actually they are all nice and presumed XF? What do you have for grades John?
Lenny, on the '95 dime, what is going on there left of the date? probably PMD

Better date with some issues...but not horrible. Tough in AU.

Wow on both those '09-O's! @paesan Lenny.
Nice job on having an AU58 @amwldcoin in your realm.
You all are making it look like '09-O's are plentiful!

Wow, lighting makes a lot of difference!
Here is a slot filler newp with Brian Greer's help. An 1897-S ctr. MM in a raw, very low grade:

A pair of 1901 quarters, North and South. Still looking for West.
Lenny nice pictures! What's your setup?

Not PCGS, but one of the "reputable" TPGs, according to eBay! I was wondering about the surfaces, which is why I asked.

Lenny- that's a BEAUTY!
Thanks, Jeff!
Beauty and the Beast....
Looks like there could be DNA on that one....
For tonight, PC 58, just CAC'd. Will try for a plus soon. Thanks to Vern for the coin and the pix!
Let's keep it rolling, here's on of my Newps.
Darrell.
You're half the collector you used to be! Good luck with the hunt.
Jim
How about some 05-S quarters?
I'll play along with an '05-S or two....
Yours are nicer!
Still am, just not much action and I needed a distraction!
Some purple on a better date.
This hole filler arrived today to keep the coin above company!
