My backorder from the first 60 seconds of ordering FINALLY shipped, and FINALLY arrived yesterday! Anyone else who got their orders in, only to have them go to 'backorder' , get shipping notices, or have them arrive yet, besides mine?? And what's going on with those who received their CC charges refunded? Any news/clarification on that??

Just an edit to add my order #, 049582XX, which is a much earlier order than a lot of members who got theirs shipped out immediately. Ahh, the U.S. Mint, gotta luv 'em!

    I'll come up with something.

You are only driving yourself mad by these unfathomable Mint actions. There is no reason. There is no logic. There is no consistency. There is no adherence to published and proclaimed policies like "first in first out" or "We don't make deals with dealers".

To continue down this path will only lead to mumbling under your breath, pounding your head against a wall and other self destructive activities.

Save your self further self abuse and just accept that some things are just unknowable.

I'm not goin' down any path, I was just adding to the thread, advising that my order, which had been back-ordered out of the chute, had finally shipped and was wondering how those others who ran into the same issue as I did, have made out. Sure, I got PO'ed that orders placed AFTER mine shipped BEFORE mine, but thats only due to this being the absolute first time I've EVER had an issue with an order. For all those Mint products where there's been a 'noon-time live' thing, I've ALWAYS been able to place an order and have it arrive in a pretty timely manner, even WITH FedEx SmartPost (or whatever it's called). As long as my order ships, I'm ok with a wait, especially with no HH limit. I'm not a submitter for 'First Strike' or any of that game-playing, so just as long as I get my orders, I'm ok.

Sure, an order that goes from 'processing' at 1pm, to 'backordered' at 8pm is disconcerting. And now that I'm aware of 'no particular rules' in regard to 'shipping rules', I'm OK with that, just so long as it doesn't go from 'processing' to 'backordered' to 'cancelled', after placing an order and having it confirmed in the first 60 seconds. So, please, don't say I'm going down any road, or thinking I'm 'going off the deep end'. I can only sit and wait and wonder like everyone else, and I KNOW there ain't nothing I can do about it, other than wait.

About the only thing that COULD send me down that road, or have me pounding my chest, would be to see that order have a CC refund, like some here have experienced. Still wondering how those orders are going to play out. I'M GOOD!! LOL

    I'll come up with something.

I know you are not "going down a path". Just trying to convey that the Mint has no rhyme or reason for what they do. IF the do, they not admitting it to anybody. They may say they do then turn around and contradict in deed what the just professed to.

Like you say, if it gets to shipped all is good. Pondering the machinations of the Mint is a frustrating, hopeless mind bender of an exercise. Stay back from the event horizon of that black hole.

I DO appreciate your attempts at 'talking me off the ledge'!! lol I can see why you thought I thought what you thought I was thinking (HUH??? lol)...maybe I'll have to have a slightly better way of expressing it...maybe I should start by changing my name here to SHUDbegud!! lol Thanks, I certainly appreciate your looking out for me (and, by default, everyone affected by the Mints nonsensical shipping process)!

    I'll come up with something.

P.S. for those who remember my worries with my grandson, he seems to be very healthy and doing great for a three year old. I believe he is going to be a politician as he is very outgoing and loves to be the center of attention. Walks up to everybody when he is out and introduces himself. "Hi, my name is Hunter" he says to everybody he sees in the store or wherever he is at. Once when he was two and a half, at the store they had a skeleton in a witches costume hanging from the ceiling. On his own he walked up to it took it by both arms and began to dance with it to the music that was playing in the store. Everyone in the aisle laughed so hard. The worries of his first few weeks are long gone. I believe it was the prayers of many on this forum that helped.

    (see link above)

Thanks and may god bless everyone who said a prayer for my grandson.

Anyone know what the "RF" part of the item number "17RF" stands for?
I had an ebay seller ask, just out of curiosity, and I don't know either. He isn't making a stink about it...was just curious.

And, btw, @BackroadJunkie , thank you very much for starting this thread. Been awhile since the mint gave out a nice gift like this, and it was a great birthday present to myself. Got one for me, a couple as gifts, and a few to sell that ended up paying for them all.
Was even able to "leave some money on the table" by helping a forum member out, who had missed out, and selling him one below going market rate, so it was a win-win.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I still have one in an un-opened box. OK I found it behind a cabinet, it must have fell there after I received a few of them.

WAG here. The Mint changed all of their catalog numbers in 2016. The catalog numbers are 4 or 5 characters in the form:

    YYTX

were YY is the year, T is the "Type", which can be one or two characters and X is a unique ID.

If Type is "R" (which stands for "Regular Issue"?), or a set issued every year. If we look at the "R" series, we have:

RA - AMERICAN $1 COIN & CURRENCY SET
RB - ANNUAL $1 UNC SET
RC - LIMITED EDITION SILVER PROOF SET
    RD - BIRTH SET
    RE - HAPPY BIRTHDAY SET
    RF - CONGRATULATIONS SET
    RG - PROOF SET
    RH - SILVER PROOF SET
    RJ - UNCIRCULATED SET

So 16RF was the Congrats set for 2016, 17RF is the Congrats set for 2017.

    Other "Types" are:
"A" - America The Beautiful products.
    "AR" - ATB Roll sets
    "AB" - ATB Bag sets
    "C" - Commemoratives
"E" - Eagle products (Silver Eagles are always EA.)
    "K" - Kennedy Half products
"N" - Native American Dollar products
"X" is for special releases (American Liberty, the 100th Gold Commems last year, etc.)

At least that's the way it looks right now. Confirmation will come If they continue the same scheme into 2018.

And, btw, @BackroadJunkie , thank you very much for starting this thread. Been awhile since the mint gave out a nice gift like this, and it was a great birthday present to myself. Got one for me, a couple as gifts, and a few to sell that ended up paying for them all.

You're welcome, but as I stated before, I was just first to announce it (before all the other blogs, I might add).

I'm hoping for more quiet 225th anniversary surprises. So far it's been the Congrats set and the "P" cents. It would be very nice to have a couple of others...

There's been a couple of stealth 7:30am sales. I believe there were even a couple here who got a few sets.

And there may have actually been some return/replacements that occurred as well. Perhaps early deliveries that didn't make a 70?

(Mine are awaiting entombing ATS. Of course they're all 70's. Heh.)

You might want to call the Mint on this one, and make sure the order is properly in the system.

I'm not sure I've had anything backordered recently, so I don't know if that $0 sub-total is a reflection of being backordered or another problem...

    Some backorders have shipped.
I had a set of 5, ordered in first couple of minutes obviously, that went into backorder that night.
Shipped last week as part of FedEx StupidPost and made it 20 miles away yesterday....they still sit there today with no movement...as they aren't supposed to arrive until Thursday....so, they obviously don't believe in anything getting there earlier than scheduled.

Mine are showing that way too, still backordered. I think this is proof the mint really DIDN'T know what they were doing with this one. There was speculation it was a secret gift to collectors, being a near key date and all, but if they were doing that on purpose, surely they would have expected a quick sale out. Nope. Just the mint being the mint.

The big boys have many 100's if not 1000's of slabbed coins for sale already in dozens of different labels. Little doubt who got the most coins first. Maybe the mint will throw another HH limit 1 bone to the "friends and family" groups. Get your church bingo group ready to order.
Now that the big boys have all their orders at the TPG's and up for sale the Mint will start shipping the back orders out. >:)

The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.
