My images on the above 1892 25C Type I are not really good. Although I did manage to capture something I did not see before;
an apparent tripled "I"

I did not do so hot on the QUARTER portion;

The doubling is there, I just don't have a good enough USB microscope to capture the split serifs.

Nice try, Old Wise Man.... That $20 Double Eagle was not designed by Barber,
it's a Longacre design.Good chatting..... After dinner, I'll hunt up the Barber design.
----- EDIT -----
I was just advised my old AU "V" Nickels are available to post out of Photobucket.
My newps since Memorial Day to today - will be sourced out with Messydesk. Those
images should be ready within a few weeks. I have not sent the coins out yet for imaging.0 -
Sorry these are not in sequential order...

1 -
Mike - I'll guess 64 on your dime from yesterday.
Tim - Really nice 09-D dime.
oih8 - "I" definitely looks tripled.
Mike - Lots of good looking V Nicks.
Pics for this PM, my friend Keith gave me 7 halves to sell. I took this one, Lenny took 2 others and (unsolicited plug), I put the other 4 on the BST):

Ok... I'll find the Barber Double Eagle.... I got tied up with the new Nickel images ....

My old AU 58 was involved in a swap with JMW - Joe Wojetczko - and I picked up this 07-S
....yeah yeah yeah...I need to locate that Double Eagle....

Eliasberg '07-S, nice way to replace a hole in your set Mike! Nickels: '01 is sure a blazer! but my fav would be with the color on that '10. I am guessing the '85 in 58 wasn't cheap.
Vern, Other 4 on the BST can be viewed where? For sale? and who would get the funds to receive? Thanks for the kudos on the '09-D.

Couldn't sleep knowing I had to post these images....

Nice Mike, I presume you bought one of those 2010 minted gold pieces? I can see the striking resemblence (no pun intended)

No... Wouldn't touch it with your credit card !!
Tim... I could buy a MS 64 1885 V Nickel for what I paid for the AU 58.
Yes, the prices have slid... Chances you take.0 -
Mike - I like that Eliasberg pedigree. Congratulations. Wouldn't mind having one in my collection as well.
Tim - The other four are in this forum's Buy, Sell and Trade section. I'm handling all ttransactions, in case you're interested.
Glad Teddy went with Saint Gaudens for the $20, back in 1906/7.

Vern, Didn't know about a BST... now I know what the acronym stands for!

Paesan - Never hurts to save a little electricity.
Tim - Every now and then, something interesting pops up on the BST.
Pics for this PM, I added this to my collection as few years back, after hearing about it on the BST, PC64:

Vern, Sweet, so sweet! '13-S. From the picture, I'm trying to find out why it is not graded higher than an MS64? How long ago has it been graded?
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.

OK, I'll be the one to follow up that BEAUTIFUL '13 S Quarter. Here's a Barber Dime back from the grading room, a Fugly 1905 O PC XF 45:

I wouldn't dare try to top Vern's coin. This was a raw purchase at FUN.
I love them Barber Halves.....0 -
Tim's right - it looks a lot nicer than a 64...
Rummaging around the Photobucket files... came up with a coin
I love but don't show off too often !
5 -
Amazing Quarter, Mike.
Once again I'll follow up an amazing coin with a very mediocre 1896 O Quarter just back from the grading room, PCGS VF 35:

Although the coin looks to have been dipped at some time, I'm still happy to have found this tougher date in the wild.
I love them Barber Halves.....0 -
Here's a raw one going to PCGS in a few weeks, a 1901 O Quarter_

My guess it will come back in a 45 holder, but on a good day maybe a 50?
I love them Barber Halves.....1 -
Holy smokes that is a nice '01-O Jeff. I think it has a shot at AU50... maybe even 53 since the New Orleans '01-O tends to get a bit of a pass due to being a tougher, typically weaker strike date. If it turns out to be a 45, go to CAC and get a green, or perhaps a gold bean.

Here's a Barber Dime fresh back from the grading room, an 1892 O now in a PC 53 holder:

I love them Barber Halves.....1 -
Jeff, Your estimate is right in range for that '01-O. The '92-O dime is nice for a 53 grade. Like the color a bunch!

Jeff.... I am very interested in what our hosts feel your 1901-O Quarter grades.
Its a tough date - that's an understatement ! I think I see a disturbance in the
fields which may preclude a hard grade, however.I love the 1892-O Dime - and although you [ and most of us ] will feel its a harsh grade,
I think its a 53 Green CAC. I love the color - ya done good Son.0 -
Its not too often that I lift an image from someone's Registry Sets....
I just couldn't help myself:

Tim - Thanks on the 13-S. It's in an old green holder, circa 1993-1998.
Mike - Your 00-S is a beauty. And those '92 registry coins are amazing.
Jeff - Good luck with your 01-O submission, One never knows, our hosts never cease to amaze me.

Hhmmmm....... Is Lenny starting a F/ VF set of raw Barber Halves?
Here's another raw find Barber Dime that just came back from the grading room, a '11 D in a PC AU 55 holder:

For whatever reason I had a tough time finding a nice original raw one. I found numerous AU cleaned ones, however!
I love them Barber Halves.....1 -
Once again, beautiful coin Jeff. Hold onto those good thoughts like where you are seeing '11-D dimes having a large majority of them cleaned. I think it will be useful later - would be good fodder to eventually refresh numismatic publications.

Tim, you're inspiring. Keep it up!

I have completed the submission of two mini-articles for the next BCCS Journal.
One: on the recently imaged '97-S/S east dime and Two: the increasing likelyhood that there might be a newly found '99-S repunched MM quarter with pronounced doubled upper loop west. The one I am currently working on (which I am finding much more intense to do) is the Barber Half Dollar mintmark size and position study.A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.

I am having a tough time finding a nice 19th Century Dime in PCGS AU58. I once had a MS61 that was nice, but it did not fit when I changed direction into my "everyman" set.

I see the minor pitting Mike may be alluding to regarding a "hard grade" but I don't believe it will do anything more than just lowering it from a 53 to a 50 (or a 50 to a 45). It doesn't look environmentally impaired IMO. It does make me think about its useful life during the early 20th century time period... where that coin might have travelled.

Jeff, I won't do a set of Barber Halves. I'm focusing on a few key dates in higher grades. I'll buy nice eye appealing lower grades if priced right, but for those I'm not interested in the date as much as the look. I'd rather have twenty of the same date that looked right than twenty different dates that were off.
Same with dimes.
Quarters are King!

I don't know that Quarters are King, but you're certainly King of the Quarters!

It's a Middle Series thing. The Middle kids (Quarter Collectors) think the smallest kids (Dimes) are too cute and get all the attention, They believe the large kids (Halves) are narcissistic and over privileged. No big deal.
I love them Barber Halves.....1 -
Here's a recent coin back from the grading room, a 1900 PC 62 Barber Quarter (for Lenny):

I bought the quarter thinking it was a very high end AU, but it came back Unc. instead. Oh well, back to looking for a nice AU.
I love them Barber Halves.....2 -
You guys crack me up!
Jeff, I like the look of your 1900 quarter overall. The strike is excellent. Beside for the chatter, nicer than most 58s.

Beautiful cold hard cash that is! A nice morning wake-up Mike. Love the subdued, golden yellow toning on that '00-S... very nice.

Very nice dime Mike
1 -
Thanks, Guys. Once I get it - its off to CAC - but I have a sneaking suspicion - it won't bean.
Its worth a shot. Considering I paid more for my AU 55 three or four years ago, I have nothing
to loose. Its then off to my photographer for a "glamour shot".

Although I own a really attractive 1906-S in PCGS 58 - CAC - which had an Elbesaar Pedigree -
-
and which sold in 8/2011 - and subsequently repurchased in 2/2014 :Old image :

Well... I found another that I think will be quite nice....

The difference in cost ? $615 !! yes, $615 !!! I kid you not....
