Although the strike isn't great, it's rather average for Now Orleans. This coin replaces an AU 50 in my set; I found this a much tougher date than PCGS seems to think.

I still find it strange how PCGS prices this coin lower than most other 58's. For example, they price the '02 O at $750 (Pop Count 14, Registry Weight 5), but the '02 is priced at $850 (Pop Count 42, Registry Weight 2). Is this just a typo, or does someone really believe the '02 O is a less valuable coin?

Jeff, Sugar Magnolia is correct. You're good at this. Did I mention a half update? I don't remember. Recent newps include a perfect 1921-S VF-20 from DKRC with a tip from Justin, a perfect 1900-S in 53 which will replace my 1900-S in 55 that is also quite appealing, an 1807 VG-10, 66-S and 72-S in 40. I've been busy! :-) (Would it surprise anyone that the one with the lowest pops was the cheapest and the one with the highest pops was the most expensive?)
When Jeff asked about what was "updated" .... He was referring to what your set was highlighted as, UPDATED.
Usually if there is an Upgrade, ie a 53 going to a 55, the actual set has a seperate column showing the Upgrade.
Conversely, if you Down grade from a 55 to a 53, it will also be listed but as a Update.
Your set had no such wording on the set itself, it showed an Update on the master list of Barber Halves, but not in the set itself.
Usually, that means the update was in the recent past, but not the immediate past.
For the sake of discussion, I'd like to see the perfect 53 and compare it to the AU 55 it replaced. The longer I collect this series, the more I appreciate the AU 53 grade.

After looking at Mike Hayes beautiful collection of Liberty Nickels I decided to venture out and pick up a few myself.

And finally a pair of 1911's (I couldn't decide which one I liked better):
They all look like mid grade MS coins to me (63 to 64), but I don't know much about grading these. They're all common dates, but they sure are nice looking coins in MS state. Thanks Mike for getting me interested!
Would like some thoughts from the half dollar experts on the 1910 (P). Overrated/overvalued? Underrated/undervalued? Common or tough? More specifically in XF-AU problem free holder.

The '10 half is definitely tough, but I don't think it's quite as difficult to find a nice reasonably priced XF to AU as the '13, '14, and '15. For me the '11 S has been tougher as well.
NTM- The hint locked me in (I think)- is it "Jaws"?

Jeff, Nice nickels to start off your collection, and good pickup on your raw 11-S half. I like the 03 nickel the best. Mike's nickels are quite inspirational. Jaws is correct! What a great movie!

Paesan - I'm not a half guy but I'll guess the '10 half is about as tough as any late P mints in higher circ grades. NTM, I kept thinking of the bird as a woman, not a shark. Robert Shaw was great.

The Half series has more semi key dates than many realize. The 11-S is very hard to locate in 40-53. I located a nice 45 from Scott. Equally difficult is the 13-P which I picked up another choice XF but from Chris Dudzik ( Manorcourtman). The 05-O is well known to be an absolute bear in XF (without problems ).
I am down to a 1897-O in 40-53 to finish off my set - then I will fine tune it.... actively look for crusty originals and weed out the dipped ones.

I looked at the '11 S half again today (that I posted yesterday), this time with a more objective viewpoint. I now believe it's been messed with; I'll be returning it. Rats- I thought I found another tough one. For now I'll keep my XF 45.
Mike, I saw the damage (likely a counting machine); I doubt it would grade but it's still a nice looking coin.
By the way Mike, you're not the only one looking for a nice '97 O Half. My VF 25 looks way out of place in my set! I sure wish I knew where they were hiding; the pop report doesn't have the coin as tough as other dates.
I was able to pick up a nice upgrade for my Dime Collection. Although I have a 1895-S Dime in PCGS 58, I thought the MS 62 in tonight's Heritage auction better suited my collection.
I also won another upgrade - an 1898 Dime PCGS 64
Once off my iPad later this evening, I'll add images.

The nice '15 S you already have is a nice Barber Half (albeit a common date). I don't think anyone will want to traded a rarer MS coin for a common date, but perhaps I'm missing something?

I'd be disappointed if the coin graded less than AU 50.

and I have added to it since 1989. I
finally completed the set in 1994.
All but one coin was graded as AU 58.
One was a MS 63 - how my Grandfather
ever found that one in MS is beyond me.
I have had a lot of fun putting together this
set, a few too many MS coins have snuck in,
as I would much rather have all 58's.
