80% of the time when we post, it seems as if the thread is stuck. It's exasperating, I agree.
I read it takes about 10 minutes to download on this older system. Someone mentioned a new type of posting system ( please, I don't know bits from bites, so, don't ask me )
If the post you just made isn't instantaneously available for viewing, forget about it !! I will no longer keep posting "Thread Stuck" ....
Hope everyone had a great Holiday.
Edit: I agree, that is a great 97-S.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
The position of the S mint mark is different than others I've seen (very low and centered). There's also some doubling on the word "QUARTER", but nowhere else.
Are there collectible varieties for the mintmark? PCGS doesn't attribute them. Does the doubling look like machine? You quarter guys know a lot more than me.
feeter - Wonderful looking first half, and thanks for posting it here. Hope there are more to follow.
Rob - Thanks for the kind words, but many of the pics I post are coins that have been found by (and are in the collections of) collector friends Lucanus, Paesan, SAM and Mowgli. The 97-S qtr I was lucky enough to acquire from a dealer at the annual Central States show a few years back. I typically make three big shows and 12-15 local shows each year. I also try to keep up with the major auctions, and to a lesser extent, ebay. I'm glad that sharing pics of these coins helps you in your enjoyment of collecting.
Pics for this AM, very tough date from Mowgli's Dansco:
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
<< <i>Mowgi, Good call on the NTT, and very nice 07-S quarter. You've got a knack for coins and lyrics. This one is tougher but I'll bet you know it.
Hope everyone had a nice holiday, whichever you celebrate, and Happy New Year to all. 2015 is going to be AWESOME! >>
I like the music in this song but prefer the lyrics to Dust in the Wind. I saw them live in a very small venue in 1977. I know the song and the band but will let Vern have his try.

The Barber Half Gods continue to be kind to me; a couple more recent raw pickups. First a 1898 50C:
This is a fairly common date, but I really like the look of the coin (the nice original toning). I think this is certainly a 55 and has a shot at 58.
Next up is a 1906 O 50C:
This is a much tougher date- I'm thrilled with the find. There's just a touch of wear; it should be a 58 but could go 55 due to the chatter on the face and neck. I hope the graders are in a good generous mood the day they look at it. The really interesting thing about this coin is who I purchased it from. There's a dealer on eBay that sells a LOT of raw Barber Halves (well known, I'm not naming them), virtually all of them cleaned or damaged. The photos are generally decent and the problems are generally evident. I normally don't even look at this dealers coins assuming they're problems. This coin caught my eye, the price was right, and I took a chance (they do allow returns). I guess I need to re-evaluate my impression of this dealer; he's probably just selling a good cross section of available raw material- 95% of it seems to be junk.
These coins will be off to our hosts for grading in a few days.
Since the thread seems to be stuck again I'll post another purchase, a 1901 O 50C PCGS AU 53:
This was a purchase from Darrell; it's from the retired set of Notehunter (Larry). This coin replaces my VF 30 which also came from Larry a little over a year ago; it sold within hours of posting it on eBay on Christmas day. I think this coin may cross into a 55 holder one of these days.
Mike, Very nice coins posted above. The 92 (P) is my favorite.
Jeff, You nailed the NTT! I've never heard that song on the radio. Great intro and great lyrics. Here's another below to close out the year. I see you are picking up a lot of raw coins. It's not easy finding nice high end pieces in flips. I think the mark on the neck will keep the 98 half out of a holder, and the 06-O seems to have rim issues. Still very nice pick ups if the price was right. Are you going to FUN? If so, I'd like to meet you.
Barberian, I like that intrusion! Maybe you can "accidentally" drop in from time to time!
DANG! PCGS is blowing there bandwith out of the saddle with all the bumps to see what has been posted! What are we getting up to 10 outta 20 per page??? Fingers Crossed I can see the next page!
Mike, fantastic set...I'm sure it was so fun to put together. Thanks for sharing it with us! Your friend does some superb photography too Good luck on completing it this year.

Today, I received the latest BCCS Journal. The front cover has a very interesting V Nickel from 1904.
Anyone want to discuss it ?

Mowgli - Good call on the NTT.

Great looking Half!!
Vern I was referring to the quarter,it amazes me how many RARE coins you post....such a treat and inspiration to add to my set.
I always keep asking myself where do you find these coins?
Its such a sense of accomplishment to get certain semi-key date coins in high VF to low AU but your coins are off the charts
Always reading...

I did not have any Halves imaged.
Your Halves are nicer than mine, by and large.
I do have a few outstanding ones, though.

Mike V - Great job on the photos.
Jeff - Didn't mean to neglect your halves, really like the tough, tough 01-O.
Paesan - Had the NTT (from one of the 10 best albums of all time IMO), not the NTM, tho. Good job Mowgli.

Mike, I'm overwhelmed too. Like the 06-O, and 07-O, and 12-S. What? No 09-O? :-)
Mowgli, "Junior, Get the honey!"
Paesan
Spotted an 09-O I like ... Might make a play for it,
the 01-O, 01-S, 07-S and the 13-S. My goal for 2015:
