    I realized Photobucket has once again messed up my images....there is no Rhyme Nor Reason to the date placement.

    So, for your viewing pleasure [again] - here are all the missing dates and MM's.

    Here are the rest of the Quarters Mike Valente imaged for me: ( Any other missing images from this group - were previously imaged -
    and were shown on this forum.) Only the most recent images have been displayed here.

    I have posted this one before - it was actually in my second set of Dimes and was sold at auction in August, 2011. When I saw it again for sale - I knew it should come home. Ex: Tom Casey Collection:

    image

    I located this thru another US Coin Forum Member and I liked it - as I did not have my old 58 back at that time... I still like this newer 55 :

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Image Forthcoming !!
    image
    I just found this coin on the BST - I thought it might upgrade to a 53 - or - 55 ... but no... it didn't even CAC.... Its not as nice as my old 58 [ which resides in JMW's collection ]
    image
    I bought this Micro O from Larry of Sea Eagle Coins a few years ago for my cousin's son - who I started a Dime Collection for .... I kept the coin until I upgraded it with the AU 50....
    Seems as though a couple of coin images are missing -
    I will receive the CD at FUN - and add the ones I know are
    not in my Photobucket account.
    Non Barber Related - but included in the group I had imaged:
    Another great pic Vern, as I look at the prices for AU and MS quarters compared to the half dollars, and see all of the fantastic quarters out there I sometimes wish I could set the halves aside for a while. It appears you can get some real nice value buying quarters now, just can't seem to put the halves away for a while. I'll have to figure out some kind of alternating thingy, I'm sure others have the same dilemma.
  • JeffMTampaJeffMTampa Posts: 3,278 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Mike, your quarters and dimes are absolutely beautiful. It's very clear you've been selective in their acquisition.
    Another recent raw coin pickup, a 1897 50C:
    I love the toning on this coin; it looks original to me. It will be submitted to our hosts at FUN for grading; I'm guessing it will come back in a 55 holder.
    I love them Barber Halves.....
  • barberkeysbarberkeys Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Dave - Thanks again. IMO, most dates of barber halves are easier to find than most dates of barber qtrs, in original AU to low MS. I guess prices are higher for halves, due to demand being higher. If you decide to add qtrs to your collection, welcome to my collecting world.
    Jeff - Nice looking '97. Congrats. 55 looks about right to me.
    Vern, another nice pic. I guess you have hundreds of photos taken over the years, not sure when you find time to buy.
    Beautiful coin Jeff, fantastic color, it's hard for me to pull the trigger on raw silver coins and especially coins as nice as that. I have spent most of my collecting time on Flying Eagle and Indian cents, so I have to build up that confidence when it comes to Barber halves, lot of costly mistakes to be made.
    Vern- I guess after all of the years you have been collecting Barbers you have built up a pretty good assortment of trusted dealers to buy from. Shows like this years FUN are great places to learn about the series and meet up with some of the other experienced collectors, was really looking forward to that but will have to put it off until next year.
    Jeff- I know you are right, I'll eventually have to take a few chances with the raw coins, but after sending in two Franks years back cut directly from mint sets only to have them come back cleaned/altered surfaces I am still a little gun shy. I have had a lot better luck with the copper coins, but if I do start a higher grade Barber set it will for sure be quarters.
    I'm submitting a lot of nice raw Barber Halves to PCGS at FUN; I suspect this will come back as a AU 55. I'm also submitting a NGC AU 55 1902 S Half for crossover ( an auction win from last night).
    I'm hoping to meet some of you at FUN this week! Who's going to be there?
    Dave - When it comes to finding nice barber qtrs, a circle of good collector friends is as important as dealer contacts, IMO.
    Jeff - Be interested to hear how your submissions work out.
    Paesan (and all others at FUN) - enjoy the show, good luck on finding a nice coin or two. Also enjoy the weather, it's supposed to stay below zero here today.
    Also, Paesan, neither your NTT or NTM click with me.
    << <i>800 >>
    Sure enough... 800 posts.... 400 trying to unstick the Thread.
    Thank you Vern to having included an image every time you bumped the Thread.
    Almost makes it worth your while, now, doesn't it ? LOL
    Well, once I get off this distraction, it's off to the kennels with the pups
    ...run to the car wash to get doggie nose smudges off the inside car windows
    and a quick buff and fluff...it's off to FUN. This afternoon, it'll be lot viewing...
    meeting up with a few friends ... dinner this evening with another friend and
    his wife... later,, he and I look over about 140 Barbers to decide what gets sent in for
    upgrade ... what gets sent to CAC... and cull out coins that should be just sold.
    By the way, I spoke with Glenn Holsonbake the other day, his table is something like 1434.
    He said it was near the Exibit area. I think Darrell Kreiss is near him as well. So, we'll be
    sure to locate both easily enough.
    Have a good show if you are going, and if you are around Friday at 3:30, the BCCS
    meeting is being held. I won't be able to make the meeting - very disappointing !!!
    Darrell- good luck at the show hope you pick up some nice stuff to offer us guys stuck at home this week.
    Vern-with all the coins you post that belong to you, do you collect as a set and upgrade, are do you buy coins that you like no matter how many of that particular coin you have?
    I'm planning on submitting it to PCGS for crossover at FUN tomorrow; I think it has an 80% chance at 55, 20% at 53.
    This coin has some real cool die breaks on the date:
    Jeff, nice 02-S half. I would recommend submitting to PCGS for crossover with AU55 as a minimum grade. That coin is too nice to accept AU53.
    The PCGS VF25 CAC 1901-S quarter was won by a 16K bid (18,800 with the juice) today at FUN! Someone really got a bargain, that was a nice coin. Probably purchased by a dealer who will offer it for 25K or so in a month or two.
    The market for high priced rarities certainly has softened.
    Doug
  • paesanpaesan Posts: 1,555 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Doug, I think you're absolutely right about the softness of the market. My 01-S F-15 cost more than that 25. I would, however, try a minimum grade 53 on the 02-S half. While the reverse looks 58 to me, they might take points off for the mark on the neck. Hard to tell from the images. I hate have coins returned with a DNC sticker. Waste of money and time to me. I like the coin in the holder it's in. It's a good topic to debate, I suppose.
    Boosibri - Good looking qtr.
    Dave - For the most part, I collect as a set and upgrade, barber qtrs and indian cents. Wish I could afford to keep all the coins I've owned that I liked.
    Doug - The Blue Valley coins weren't my cup of tea. And even in a "soft" market, I can't believe that the 01-S in PC25 went so low. If it sold at all. It was way nicer than those other couple of VF dogs that have been floating around the past few years.
    Jefff - Really like the look of your new 02-S. And the cuds on the date are a bonus.
    Justin - Great date to be one of the few.
    Paesan & Mike - Enjoy FUN, you lucky guys.
