    It was a matter of watching what else the seller had for sale and condition of the box that made me go for it as soon as it popped up on ebay.

    I was extremely lucky to get one of those boxes 5 years into their release date.

    I'm sure there are a few more boxes of them stored away somewhere that someone will get tired of holding on to.

    It's just a matter of being on ebay at the right time and being willing to take a chance of getting zonked again as we all have.

    I used to try to recover some of my money by selling rolls but now just eat the loss and take them to the credit union as I will do with the other 2 boxes I bought last week.

    Win some lose some but try to stay ahead.

    EDITED: I saw on list of pics posted to include the obverse die clash too (catfish abe)? Really? If so, this is a really cool coin!

    That was just my fumbling around trying to get the ones I wanted posted. Drives me crazy every time I want to post something.

    I will be sending these in to be graded along with some some of the others out of that box and some 016's and 001's as I am getting low on those graded coins.

    Was the clashed die polished to produce the "Face Off" coin that's shown above?

    I don't post the pics, I just link them.

    I thought it may be an interesting possibility for those interested in die usage.

    I guess this kind of stuff doesn't interest you all as much as it does me.

    Sorry Papi, the images aren't quite large enough to see what you're trying to describe ... haha. Actually they are too large and distorted for me. The "Catfish Abe" and the "Face-off" the

    same coin with a polished die? Maybe, I would say no...but...I'll leave that to more expert opinions.

    I'm suggesting the "Dragon Clash", not the "Catfish", may be the predecessor to the "Face Off", i.e. same overpolished die

    I've seen the "Dragon" clash offered on Ebay but haven't given it much attention. You know how common the "Catfish" Abe is. Would be surprised if they (Dragon and Catfish) are related.

    Like I said before...I'm not qualified to judge. Just curious why they would polish a die instead of just replacing it when it was obviously producing "defective" coins. When it comes to these

    questions I am a true novice.

    I always thought the dragonclash was the same as catfish. Gave up on collecting those long ago.

    Never heard of the "face-off" either. Is that due to the wider separation of the nose from the upper lip/cheek areas? Kind of like the 3-legged Buffalo nickel? Are these being found outside of DDRs or on DDRs?

    Anyone still searching SMS or proof sets for errors? I haven't heard much about them on this thread for some time. I haven't been buying much of anything lately but always have my eye

    out for good sealed box or graded without attribution opportunities.

    I gave up on proofs after the first year when I got those 2 PR69's from my own proof sets. Look just like that one that is for sale on ebay for 3K.

    I would have thought that you would look for more PB if they are that valuable. I have a few of the sms varieties and one of the proof. Don't have the error numbers in front of me but they

    are the better ones. I still look to get them when a good buy comes along but those are few and far between. I was just curious about how many of us still search for these.

    Nothing I've seen as I stated before. Good find. If no one else claims to have or seen one then you will get to name it. I would call it the 2009p "Half Cent" die crack if it were mine. Be

    creative if you get to put your stamp on it.

    I cant tell if there is any doubling on the foot or not but if it is on one coin it will be on all of them I would think.

    So PB...final count on the 006's? How many two sided die cracks? How many 006 with the obverse only die crack? How many ddo-002 with the obverse die cracks? Did you find any other

    ddr's in that box?

    I know how valuable they are. I'm just amazed at what a great find he made this late in the game. I believe you also had a similar box (es) in the past didn't you Papi? There may be

    others on this thread that had the good fortune of coming across one of these treasure troves but I haven't. It does motivate me to keep searching however.

    There's no precedent set for its value that I'm aware of. I've never seen one like it. Nobody else has chimed in that they've seen it before (or own one) so it's just up to you to put it up

    on Ebay or other venue to help establish the value. Like I said before "you get to name the error" which will give it a title people can relate to in the future. I like "half cent" die crack

    myself but you might have a better and more creative idea. Have fun with it.

    If you haven't seen my "Cracked Skull Abe" that I have on Ebay take a look: No one else has it as far as I know. I've sold three so far at this price it two weeks.

    Why is this amazing? Are there folks who bought these, at the bank, in 2009 and have sat on them for 5 years thinking they'll make a killing? Yes!

    We've discussed, at length, the scarcity and quantities known, of this stage; a stage that only a specialist would likely be interested in.
