I have been very busy the past month or two. Glad to see everyone is doing well adding selections to their collections. Nice pictures and dialog I am seeing as I am catching up on the thread here a bit.

Recently, I have received back a mailing from our hosts of which I will post a few of the graded Barber returns. Desiring to help our BMG friend Jon, here is one that is spoken for to add to the @DIMEMAN collection... it is my fault, not his, that this isn't in his possession yet. This 1908-P dime I swiped from a dealer in Chicago after I noticed it had a weird-looking RPD. This was confirmed by our hosts as a FS-10-1908-303 with a URS-5 (9-16 known per the Cherrypicker's Guide 5th Edition) and is now in a PC50 holder. I love the look which includes some nice toning highlights. If you check-out PCGS's site, there is one listed (this coin) at the 50 slot -pretty cool:

I am anxious to get the 1908 from Tim. Shouldn't be long.

My latest, just picked up at P.O. today. Graded F-15; I've been wanting an upgrade for quite a while.

Nice circ Barber Quarter. And a great date.

  • barberkeysbarberkeys Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tim - Good looking dime, RPD or not.

    jedm - Lot's of meat for a 15, I've seen 20's with less. Nice pick-up of toughie.

I bet Dan is happy with the results

  • barberkeysbarberkeys Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jim - Happy, yes. A couple of the other results were confounding. Too bad our hosts don't provide some explanation for their results. It'd be worth an extra fee. (That ought to get somebody's attention).

Understanding their reasoning would be like always knowing what your spouse is thinking. Of course that would be worth the extra fee too !!

  • barberkeysbarberkeys Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jim - I agree, but knowing and understanding are two different things.

I'm in New Orleans on business for a few days. I parked in a garage today that only took cash; my change was $.50- paid in dimes. Being in New Orleans I got excited about finding a Barber with an "O" on the back. No such luck- I guess someone already cleaned them out......

I'm hoping to have a chance to visit the Old Mint tomorrow morning before flying home tomorrow afternoon. This time I brought a better camera!

    I love them Barber Halves.....

Would it be worth a shot to speak with the curator to get the sets out off of display for improved close-ups? At least for that '97-O half for goodness sake!

Newp. Previous owner thought Choice BU or about a 63. Nice Lib Nickel 1905 with luster and shy of a c-note to boot. The three or four cheek marks are toning and not scratches FYI.

Here is another recent pick-up... an 1892-O Barber Dime. Take a look at the point of the bust in this picture. Seems it has something going on there, what do you think? ideas? Then look at the die crack on the reverse at about 4 o'clock.

Is anyone planning to attend the Long Beach show? I'll be making the trek down there this week. It'd be great to cross paths with some other Megathread regulars. I'll even have some of my spares in tow...

    Here is a 1898 with a Gotea.

  • jedmjedm Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭✭✭

Ah.... that's the proof as to what I've always thought.... these "lady Liberties" are a bit masculine looking.

  • barberkeysbarberkeys Posts: 4,154 ✭✭✭✭✭

scodal - No to Long Beach. Hope you find something nice.

    Jon - Neat variety.

...Finally found a specimen to add to the Quarter Collection.

...And wanted to check this against the beautiful Cleveland "hidden away" specimen.

The "hidden" specimen is one, strong New Orleans puppy!

I LIKE <3 both of those quarters!

A few weeks back I submitted my recently purchased 1909 S Barber Half (in a MS 64 holder) to PCGS for variety attribution. It came back last week in it's new "Inverted Mintmark" holder:

    I love them Barber Halves.....
  • LogPotatoLogPotato Posts: 2,176 ✭✭✭✭

Here is one I still have. Minted 110 years before the Capitals won the Stanley Cup. (Sorry they had to go through Tampa, Jeff.)

Very nice Barbers, Love that 1897!

  • seduloussedulous Posts: 3,199 ✭✭✭✭✭

Nobody saw the smaller 'o' so I picked this up very cheaply. I finally have my first '05 Micro-o dime! Got to start somewhere and I like doing that for only a few bucks out of pocket...

Nice '08 S Half, Justin. A tough date.

Washington was the better team this year, but we're still proud of our Lightning! Here's a coin minted 110 years before the Lightning's last Stanley Cup win:

Craig - Congrats on the 97-S newp. Such a tough coin.

    Tim - Nice micro-O cherry.

Justin - Very glad to see the Great 8 hoist the cup. He's always been my choice over Sid the Kid.

Jeff - Ah, the "Buhlin Wall". Hard to believe that was 14 years ago. Great strike on your '94 half, I'll guess 62 to 64 depending on the day of the week, the relative humidity, or the phase of the moon.

Justin @LogPotato ... you seem to have quality halves at the same grade level as Vern's '09-S. It makes me curious as to what your '09-S looks like? just wonderin'... don't mean to put you on the spot... anyone else?
