What happened to the forumoid cheerleaders?? This is a stellar occasion for Mr. Boss!

This is the first documented find of a 006E prominently positioned at the end of a sealed roll, we THINK.

So ~~ Mr. Boss, you gonna crack that baby or toss it into the depths for future play? Of course we'd love to see you video a grand opening and offer the best guess on da bounty for a piece of the action BUT heck, that could cost you THOUSANDS!

All kiddin' aside, does anyone know if one of these rare little darling's have been sold on the open market yet? How many are out there?

I'm thinking this is the Ark of the Formatively Cracked-Covenant, King Salomon's Skeleton's-R-Us Mine, the Saddle Ridge Hoard of Copper Bust'in Fingers and Busts, or the Rowan and Martin's Flying Fickled Finger of Lincoln's-Fate Prize.

    Does it get any better?

Even Liam thinks this is cool when he Released the Crackin'!!!!!!

    Cheers to the Boss! image

I think the cheerleaders are on vacation.

Thank you Wayne as it is a great find as I know of no other one that exists and those that have found these in coveted bank boxes have no knowledge of another roll with one on these errors on an end roll.

I have no intention of opening it even though it is tempting to do so.

It may contain more of the WDDR 006 fatal die crack errors, some with the 006 and the obverse die cracks or ones with just the obverse die cracks, all mated with WDDO 002.

I don't know, but I do know it proves once and for all that the fatal die crack coins came from bank boxes as this roll is a string roll.

As for how many of these coins there are I would say very few were minted before the reverse die broke as these were mixed with all three of the varieties in the same box that I looked through about a month ago so it went from the WDDR 006 with WDDO 002 to the WDDR 006 with large die crack and WDDO 002 on the obverse to the last stage with the fatal die crack on the reverse which lasted only a short while until the reverse die broke.

They changed the reverse die at this point but left the obverse die in place.

At that point it became just a WDDO 002 with the large die crack which were both on the obverse.

    Lecture over guys.

These were all mixed in with the same box of 2500 that I looked through which makes me believe that there are not many of these coins minted.

You (PB) and Papi are the only ones that I know of that have found these. There's a very strong likelihood that you've gotten them all. I'm still going to look though..haha!

Congrats and a doubled thumbs up to the searchers and believers everywhere! imageimageimage
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I know of 4 or 5 others that have got these in bank boxes and there have to be more but they are silent and probably not members of this forum. They also don't say how many they have other than to say relatively few. I found 2 in my box. That was it.

Well, I had to come out of hiding and officially bestow to you the "YOU SUCK" award.

I personally know of no other intact roll showing "THE KING".

Not something I would EVER open. Congrats!

  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
    Thank you Papi.
Coming from you that is quite an honor.
In conversing with the seller he told me he found it a few years ago and does not remember how he got it.
Wow! I guess a few years ago the were not that big a deal but finding it today and especially in todays market.

OK -- I opened the CONTEST BOX of 3/20/14 at long last. I could certainly feel the anticipation of the final verdict by all the lack of clatter on this forum in the last week. There was the staggering number of guesses of FOUR. And yes, it took me days just to tabulate all those scores. Good thing I'm an intelagant guy (have a Masters in Intelaganse).

The final total from this box was:

    3 -- 001's
    15 -- 002's
    0 -- 003's
    0 -- 004's

    Scores in increasing # variety
    PB: 13/10
OneDoll: 12/15/5/9 (he included the 003 & 004 which technically didn't count but gets brown-nose points for the extra touchimage)
    ILove09DDRs: 0/0
    Ksammut: 8/7

When plugged into my statistical flip of the coin supercomputer, it appears THE BOSS did it again with the smallest deviation, with KSA a close second. ILove took the Fingered Lantern Award with last place (no worries, that would have been my intelagant guess too).

    image

Sorry PB, there were no MS68s...but this addition to your collection will certainly make you rich in pride and the self-esteem that seems to be lacking lately!! All your colleagues are going to be envious again...

Thank you ladies for your participation in the most fingered event so far this year.

Hey...I got the 15 - 002's guess correct anyway image ...you got robbed on the 001's though, should have gotten a few more in that box....and ZERO 3's and 4's? I'd go back a look again.

    Well I thank you.

Please send my winnings to Kenny as he deserves them for doing all the hard work to learn about these great coins.

By the way congrats go out to Kenny for winning 40 different 2009 error coins on ebay this week while everyone was distracted by the HOF coins at the mint.

He has almost a complete collection of these errors now.

Kenny please list the ones you need to complete your set and maybe we can help you finish it off.

Yeah, overall not much profit with so few 001's. And yes, there were no 3 or 4's. I have only found a few 3's in this date box and never any 4's. I'm thinking this was an early transitional time box. I had a few boxes a few minutes earlier that were complete DUDs.

Oh well, it was fun anyway!

Thank you both! I just got the chance to sit down to relax and view the board. Kenny was Confirmed today. It was a beautiful Mass and ceremony. Some of his presents included the few key dates he was missing to complete his Lincoln wheat cents collection, several 2009 Proof Lincoln sets, $50 of Wheaties to look through, and 25 pounds of foreign coins to search. He has become extremely knowledgeable about all US coins so I gave him a challenge to become more familiar with foreign coins.

He was very excited about all the numismatic treasures but the gift he wanted the most was all 11 years of the TV show Frasier. We just spent 3 hours watching several of the episodes from the first season. It has to be one of the best written and acted comedies to be on TV.

Ak and pitboss - I thank you for your generosity. You made a wonderful day even better.

The gentleman who had the auctions turn out to be a great guy. We emailed back and forth last night. It turns out that he is a big supporter of YNs and was glad to hear that Kenny won so many of the auctions. He will setting up a similar auction for many of the same coins in the next few days. We will bid on the ones Kenny still needs. After that, I will post the ones still needed.

I was nominated to be a Vice President of one of our local coin clubs. One of my goals is to get more YNs involved in the club. It is always so great to see experienced collectors be so generous when it comes to YNs. This is a wonderful hobby with so many very decent people involved.

I just received a roll I picked up on the bay. The pics were moon shots but I got just enough of a look through my magnifying glass to see what I thought was a reflection off of a possible

error between the thumb and forefinger. My first thought was it was an 032 so I took the chance and paid the $5 total. Turns out it is an 014 on the end of the roll. Not Pitboss lucky by

any stretch but I'm happy how it worked out. I've never gotten any 014's in the wild so I did a little victory dance to celebrate. image

Hi guys! It's been awhile since I've chatted with you imageimage's. I was just thinking it will be 2 years in May having these 2009 Lincolns exciting all of us. Look at the wonderful progress we've made in firing up the forums interest. also, particular Dennis and anybody else in publishing our dear treasure in this series! I know, we still are awaiting "Cherrypicker's" to respond and place that preverbal " Cherry on the cake."( pun intended) Let's keep our hopes alive and continue for another 2 or so years. -joey

It has been a great ride. I am sorry to see the availability of these coins disappear from ebay as I enjoyed buying them for the past few years.

Now there are none at all on ebay to buy.

I am glad the baseball season has started as I would have nothing to do without looking 20 times a day for some of these errors to purchase.

  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Has anyone found anything good in the past few days while I have been distracted by baseball?
  • OnedollarnohollarOnedollarnohollar Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭✭
Nada in my latest searches...the only good items on the bay the sellers are asking for moon money. I don't even have enough fuel to get half way to the moon. I was happy to get my roll

that had the 014 showing on the end for a great price but that was only luck because the pics were so bad that I just took a guess and a chance. Wish I had time to watch baseball...time

Did you open that roll with the 014 on the end of it yet?

    Hi everyone,

This is Kenny, Ken's (ksammut) son. Thanks to everyone who is helping me with my 2009 Lincoln Cent varieties collection.

I am 12 years old and I have been collecting for 6 years. I am interested in almost everything, but I like Proofs and Error coins the most. My most prized coin in my collection is my 1909-S VDB PCGS VF-25 Brown. I am also into Barbers and Morgans. Another goal is to complete the Franklin series, PCGS graded MS-64 or better with FBL.

I am almost 70 percent done with my 2009 varieties and I will post pictures when it is complete.

Well, the fact that most people don't have a clue about 006 E's or their rarity, it's not surprising that no one has grabbed it. I actually thought you just listed it as a test to see how far

you could push the market. Good luck with it. That roll is your "Maltese Falcon". If you remember what Humphrey Bogart says at the end of the movie when asked what the significance

of the sculpted Falcon was that several people had died in their vain attempts to own it, he replied "it's the stuff dreams are made of".

Kenny, congrats on your collection of these varieties and welcome to our thread. Don't forget to pay it forward to other young collectors by sharing your growing knowledge and

  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Well for those of you that don'r know what a WDDR 006 E is and the rarity of it i will try to explain it.

The 006 coupled with the WDDO 002 was only found in one date of the LP2 boxes and only at certain times from those rolls.

The 006 E is even rarer and was found in bank boxes only.
It is the last stage with massive die cracks on both the reverse and the obverse that happened just before the reverse die broke.

In the bank boxes you can follow the progression from when the reverse die began to develop the die cracks on both the reverse and obverse until the reverse die broke and was replaced to when the obverse die broke.
At that point we are left with a coin with a massive obverse die crack and a WDD0 002 until that die broke as well.

Very few of these WDDR 006 with WDDO 002 and die cracks on both the reverse and obverse were found in each box of 2500 coins making them very rare and the roll that I have with one of these coins showing on the end of the roll is unheard of.

We would like to give away double dies to everyone but in years past, more than 20 children have come to this special meeting and I only have one or two of each of the varieties in my own collection.

We plan on giving non varieties to each child. One of each of the four reverses. We will be bringing the album with all of the double dies we purchased and explain to them how double dies are accidentally created. We want them to roll search like I do and begin to read about coin collecting. Hopefully some will actually join the club. Except for myself and one or two others, most of the clubs do not have any other YNs.

During the summer, my dad and I will give a full 2009 Lincoln variety presentation to the other 3 clubs we belong to. We have some very knowledgeable members (some have actively published articles) in the clubs but almost all do not know about the 2009 Lincoln varieties.

By then, I will have every Formative Years variety and many others from the other reverses.

Thank you for your kind words.

charge. It will be nice to help you and your coin clubs where I can. Good luck in your quest! imageimage

By the way, are you using only Wexler's guide or are you using other references to put this all together? >>

Thank you for the offer. We are happy to purchase the coin. Kenny is using Wexler's guide. I will send you a PM.

    Thanks again.

I just received a P mint roll in the mail today, thought I saw something in the hand area through some awful pics...well, it turned out to be dirt from a poor rinse at the mint. So, I

opened the roll just out of curiosity. Three quarters of the way through, with no errors showing, I resigned myself to the fact that it was a dud roll.

It was a cheap enough lotto-like purchase so I wasn't in any way upset about it. You know...sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Then, out of nowhere a Wddr-016 shows up, then another and another until I had found four altogether.

I remind you that this is a government issued mint roll that was not in the original mint lp2 box. I had never found the 016 in my mint box searches so it was a total surprise.

I had found them in bank boxes only. Has anyone else found them in mint boxes? If so, what date (s)?

This roll had a lot of very dirty (poorly rinsed) coins in it. A couple of these 016's need a bath but of course they won't get one. I was getting suspicious that somehow these were

rolled in a U.S.mint wrapper out of bank box material because they seemed too dirty -- but is that possible?

Can a person buy aftermarket mint wrappers and use them in a rolling machine?

Anyway, I'm pleased with my finds and that's the bottom line. Spent a total of $12 for a P & D set .... at least this story had a happy ending!

There are two DDRs, that I'm aware of, that can be found in LP2 boxes dated after 05-06-09; 016 & 042

    Exact dates image

Oh, you're evil Papi! Ha..what a tease! Well, at least that confirms that the roll was a legitimate Lp2 boxed product. The 042 doesn't do much for me but the 016 ? image
