Mint boxes have 50 rolls in them, LP2 boxes are white and contain the 2 rolls.
  • OnedollarnohollarOnedollarnohollar Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭✭
Everyone has their own terminology I guess....I call the Lp2 boxes "mint boxes" because they were directly mint issued and mailed to the consumer by ordering them from their website and

I call the 50 roll boxes "bank boxes" because the mint distributed millions of cents through "roll packaging" companies like Strings and Sons for distribution in boxes of 50 rolls, usually

    through a bank.

If the roll has the government issued wrapping I call those "mint rolls" even if they happen to have been removed from the white box they were shipped in.

I call them "formative rolls" if an outside agency packaged them for distribution.

Whew...I just tuckered myself out with all of that...good night....Happy Thanksgiving....and two Turkey Legs up!

Like your enthusiasm, but don't mistake striking/production defects for errors.

Not saying that something new in these boxes can't be discovered after almost 5 years, but highly unlikely.
  • Ok here is the one I found today tell me what you think of it. I am also going to send this to John Wexler to get his opinion on it.

It's a blister formed in the copper plating process.

Gas bubbles can be mistaken for die defects
  • Well we got one vote for a blister anyone else ? I did send this off to John Wexler and I will let you know what he states.
  • Hey pit boss that did not work bad link. I am going to send the coin to John Wexler as he wants to see it in person because of the pic I sent him.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I have more trouble trying to get a picture up here than you can imagine. I learn how to do it and when I go to use it again I can not remember how I did it last time.

I am too old to remember much of these computer tricks. http://s92.photobucket.com/user/stephen1327/media/20130807_153304383_zpsb9a653d4.png.html

I have no intention of looking for anything that small!

I'm gonna stick with the major errors. I've posted pics for some of my "discoveries" throughout the years with little ripple effect from others on this forum...so don't think you're alone.

The keys, the keys, the keys. The old mantra from any category of collecting. Keep searching and don't let anything diminish your enthusiasm! imageimage
  • Hey One Dollar I did get some 001 and 002 today and they are going as high as 80.00 graded. So I will have to send some coins out soon. Even if I decide to sell my coins at 2.00 a piece I have enough to make a small profit lol
I am now addicted to these so I know I will have to have my share of flops and that is ok. I have some 23, 27, 28 and 29 on the way and opening them up is just going to be to much funimage

    ?

private listings for bid history...price seems a little inflated from my experience. what say you? If this is legit it means my listings are WAY underpriced....I just sold an 006 for $10.50
  • Was that a graded 006?
  • Wow just looked at your link, I will be listing my oo1 and 002 tomorrow (Sunday) Might even list my 1995 DDO BU it is raw but amazing full red should go MS67-68

Suspicious -- only two bidders. Either a bidding war or shill, thinkin the latter.

    And -- that's no 006 -- 001 you betcha...

Dennis did well with that listing. He had one bidder put in a high bid and someone else chase it is what happened. Not a true auction.

I'm going to have to find that buyer...lol Too bad they are private bids and you can't find out who it is. It's not too late to buy it...still an hour + for bidding...right now only $20.50!

    I don't think so.

I thought I'd be seeing a lot more LP2 items for sale for Xmas.

Maybe too soon; maybe all dried up?
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
All the good boxes get scooped up as soon as they hit ebay but they are not hitting as often any more. We were always able to find some until recently.
  • I am fairly active every day deep sea fishing on ebay for the little white boxes. They are quite elusive. On that note:

Here is a pic of the die crack off my new rig let me know what you thik of the pics and what kind of value does this die crack have?

I personally don't save die cracks other that the fatal die cracks on the 006's and they have no value to me so I don't know.

You sure have some fancy camera equipment there. Looks like it takes some great pictures.

Show us some good ones of that 006 that you have.
  • AARRRGGGGG we still havent found the raw one it went on a walk in the house and was abducted by a marauding band of outcast garden gnomes.......image
  • here is an MS67 first pic through a holder.

  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
It's just not sharp. The lighting can be adjusted, but why are the pics so fuzzy? Are you using the macro setting?
  • image
    Any better
Alot of the issue is the holder and we are seeing the texture of the surface of the coin.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
    Same coin?

    image
  • Yes Papi it is the same coin now enlarge it to the same size as mine and see what it looks like. This is a very large enlargement and I did not do a depth of field multy shot image stack. Is this one a bit better? This is my first attempts using this set up and I still do not have the proper lights.

  • Nice coin John. 67s are where it is at with these errors. And a 68 if you are extremely lucky.
  • PapiPapi Posts: 1,189 ✭✭
The focus is much better, but still needs to be sharper. Maybe it's the lighting, like you said.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
I wish I could get pictures like that!
  • AkbeezAkbeez Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭✭✭
Agreed. John with that setup you should be getting great pix. Mine were with a cheaper point and shoot.

It's all about the lighting. You still have some glare adversely affecting your shots. Glare is your enemy. Try some diffusers -- even a blank sheet of copier paper can help between the coin and lights. I've even used my fingers to shield the glare. Keep trying!

  • yep working on it but I need to build a copy stand for better stability or buy one. I like building things though as you can tell from this set up. I am about 1in away from the coin so lighting is a bit tricky especially because this is being shot through the holder.

Sweet; the 1s sell for about $9 & the 2s for about $6 on Ebay. I don't even pay attention to the 3s

    My finds today.
I bought 2 bank boxes on ebay one of which was an opened box.

Looked at that box with my dinoscope and found.

3 rolls with 025 on the end of roll.

6 rolls with 032 on the end of roll.

    I have opened 10 rolls so far and found 31 925's and 92 032's.

Have not looked at the other box yet.

He has more of these boxes on ebay.

I paid $144 for the 2 boxes, the others are about half of that but they appear sealed so I have no idea if they have errors.

The seller is Hartfield coin and jewelery.

I did open the 2nd box I got from them and found nothing on the end rolls but have not opened any rolls.

    Edited to correct spelling

    Congrat's on the finds PB.

I saw those listed and couldn't quite pull the trigger. Just goes to show you can't win if you don't enter the race.

You truly are becoming the DDR Godfinger.

The 025 seems to be your mother-load coin. Maybe instead of the Double Pinky, we should call it "Boss Finger". image

I could not believe I bought those boxes on ebay last week and the 1st one I looked at had 25's and 32's.

    The 2 coins I sure don't need.

Yes Papi, i did hit the mother load on those.

That's what I mean about the bank boxes

It is hard to justify buying a bank box at todays prices when most of them contain no errors.

These were cheap compared to most of them so I just said "what the hell" and bought them.
