<< <i>Thanks, US Mint. I just got my 2:43 order today.
I had an ordeal, I just moved into our freshly built home. So we made sure that we had our debit cards updated so that the shipping and billing addresses matched.
Bank did them all, but mione some how.
So the mint emailed me to contact them.
I did, I screamed at bank, they changed it and we re-submitted for billing.
Called the next day, and order was declined!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When my bank fixed my adress, someone reset my spending limit down to $1000 per day, instead of a much higher limit I had established.
Mint tried to process and was declined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!
I got the President of the bank on the phone, and lost my mind in the nicest possible way, while I was on the phone with the mint.
After 1 hour the President of the bank reset my limit, because the first answer was 2-3 days!!!!
It got done, surprisingly the mint gave me 1 more chance, and like i said I got my box of 5 sets today.
Although, I made my wife take the day off, because we knew we would not be here for delivery, and I have not got my driver's license updated yet, I did not want to go to UPS and try to explain why they should give me a box when the addresses did not match.
Nightmare over, I hope.
Now what to do, sell it or sit on it? >>
You are a very lucky and persistent man. I would wrap it up and put it under the Xmas tree for now. If you want to wait, there is some drawbacks to doing that. If the market gets flooded with 70 sets, the box will lose value since the prices of 70 sets will go down. No one would want to spend $4K to buy the box when their return is falling. From the initial population figures, 70s are popping up regularyly. My gut says sell it now, but there are no guarantees.

Sorry, if you could possibly speak English without all the !!!!!wtf's someone might answer your question. Personally, with all that, don't think you'll receive a legitimate response you can count on. Glad you received your sets.
I was surfing Ebay tonight looking for PCGS graded 2011 Silver Eagles with the 25th anniversary labels. Not the anniversary set coins, but the earlier released 2011 Silver eagles. I noticed that non of the silver eagles with the W mint mark have the 25th anniversary labels. (Burnished or Proof) Now the (w) or the (s) PCGS coins with no mint mark from the mint, were given 25th. anniversary label from PCGS, but non of the W Mint Marked coins received that label? NGC`s coins all have the 25th. anniversary label, but not PCGS. At least not that I could find?

If you bide/buyed your time, for $4K you will be able to buy 3 sets graded 70 guaranteed. The big winners so far appear to be the smart ones who sold their box of 5 for $4500+.
<< <i>I wish I had more family that I could have used to get more sets but then again it would not have mattered because no one in their right mind would have spent 5 hours on the computer trying to buy them. >>
I'm trying to understand your logic here? Are you insinuating that it was nuts to spend several hours trying to buy these? Those of us that simply paid attention to recent mint offerings and knew what the 20th sets did knew these would be *instant* home runs. I recruited multiple people and we spent hours making sure everyone got through. Even with the recent softening in price I'm up by a dollar amount that not even the best lawyers make per hour.
I guess my question for you is why wouldn't you spend a few hours trying to buy a sure thing? If you're wealthy and don't need to save money then I understand why you wouldn't bother, but otherwise a few hours of hassle for $2000 - $3000 'profit' seems like it's worth it to me.
Personally, I would have thought the 70 sets would be commanding a bit more $ but maybe they are getting readily handed out. Perhaps to most people, just having a set is what matters. I have heard the quality on these sets is generally high and the OGP looks pretty nice. (Mine are still in a sealed box so I haven't been able to check them out).
Personally, I expect the softening to continue but for prices to stay nicely elevated through the holidays. These will always command well over $299....I guess I'm being captain obvious there.

I think the biggest factor was the failure of the first graded 70 sets to draw $7-$8K money on eBay.

That and they didn't have a traditional First Strike Flag labels. I think these other goofy labels messed the whole thing up. People are seeing First Strike Tombstone labels and going, "WTF!"

Go back and re-read some of the early pages of this thread. This was far from a "sure thing". MCM's first buy offer was $65 and if you did not send them 5 sets you had to pay your own shipping. Lots here figured they'd avoid the initial mad rush and wait to order in the evening after things "calmed down". I come from a large family but no way they'd take a day off from work to spend hours trying to get through to order these. Even seasoned dealers have been stunned by realized prices for these sets. Sometimes you just never know.

Bajjerfan, what tpg are you talking about and how long is your guarantee? >>
I'm not guaranteeing selling 3 sets. I'm predicting that prices will fall to the point where you can buy 3 graded 70 sets for $4K. The guaranteed refers to the fact that the coins will be 70s. The TPGs are sitting on chitloads of sets and pooping out 70s like they are going out of style.

I really hope you are wrong about that 'cuz I just paid extra for them.

I almost lost my brothers order because of a bank screw up. I send an electronic payment of $1800 to his credit card so that he would have the funds to cover the purchase. Seems the bank put the transfer in his bank account instead of his credit card. Card was already declined two times til we figured out what happened. I got the charge through after the mint supervisor agreedt to another attempt. After 3 attempts they usually cancel the order.
There are only so many dealer 70 sets. Be interesting what the second batch of dealer sets will offer. $2200 may not be unreasonable for a PCGS 70s set. I saw a flag 70 set go for $1850 on ebay last week. Those seem to be the rarer ones.
Out of those 10 sets submitted (the last 3 submissions reported on that thread) and using ALL 50 coins submitted there were, let me count them, ZERO complete 70 sets
I think someone just gave Kaopectate to the graders to make up for the gracious dealer grades >>
How do people think mixed sets of 69s and 70s will do?

Bummer, you took the bait. Let me ask you this. If you had been building a collection of ASE with First Strike Flag labels, you you want a 2011 tombstone First Strike label in the middle of your collection or 2011 Flag label?

Once dealers dump the sets ........prices will rise

Thanks for commenting... I still stand by my statement that it should have been clear these were a home-run from day one. I guess the real issue here is the fact so many have such disdain for modern coin collectors that they can't be bothered with learning more about that side of the hobby. Those of us who actually follow modern mint releases knew these were a home run simply based on the example of the 20th anniv sets. Before the 25th sets went live the reverse proof coin from the 20th set had a mintage of 250,000 and was selling for $180 to $400 depending on the grade/label. Anyone with their wits about them should be able to deduce that if a set is going to be released with TWO key coins that are 2.4 times rarer than the prior set (including a one of one coin in the S coin), than it's going to probably sell for at least the same amount as the prior set but most likely MUCH MUCH more. It really is simple math that told me to recruit as many people as possible to load up on these . Personally I'm pleased by the fact so many dealers and collectors shun modern coins. It simply means less competition on stuff like this .
Not to be harsh but any Modern collector that thought this issue was NOT a no brainer really has to take a couple of steps back and rethink their beliefs....as was said above...2 key coins....one of those with a mint mark that has never been seen on this series and the other a follow up to a very popular issue 5 years ago...if all THAT was missed then how can the 100k mintage be ignored?? If you haven't heard the ASE series is a bit popular....
Sorry.... but it WAS worth taking a day out of work for....

It is their short term competition/interest that ran the prices up unnecessarily high to begin with.

I've been watching the prices realized for sealed 5'ers on Ebay since early last week and have observed the following:
Prices were going up steadily on a daily basis last week going into Thurs. where I believe prices peaked with boxes typically bringing between $4250.00 - $4500.00
The typical number of 25th boxes and single open sets also remained fairly steady during the week in the mid 600's.
Beginning early Fri. prices began falling and I noticed no more sealed 5'ers bringing $4500.00 and the typical selling prices were now in the $4150.00 - $4250.00 range. Going into and throughout the weekend prices weakened further across the board with sealed 5'ers now bringing below the $4K level in many cases. Single open sets also weakened. The only thing that seemed to hold were the partial 3-coin sets w/box (missing the RP and S) which were still bringing in the $155.00 - $190.00 range. Throughout the weekend going into this week the total number of 25th items also increased to the high 700's to mid 800's and holding.
Going into this week prices weakened yet further across the board with the number of total 25th items available still remaining high with many BIN items going unsold that were priced at last weeks levels. Sealed 5'ers now regularly bringing below the $4K level and some sell as low as the mid $3K area. Currently prices appear to have leveled off to slightly weaker for sealed 5'ers and opened single sets, and now virtually no sealed 5'ers bring $4K with most selling in the $3700.00 - $3950.00 area w/free shipping.
Also remember that PCGS/NGC are still probably sitting on 1000's and 1000's of sets that will be shipped out in the coming days/weeks it's likely that Ebay will be hit with a tsunami of graded 25th sets soon.
In light of the above, it's hard for me to imagine that sealed 5'er boxes will return to the $4250.00 - $4500.00 level anytime soon, but I suppose anything can happen longer term.

I think the demand is still there, and since the VAST majority went to be graded and to dealers right out of the gate, all of the collector's and gift buyers for Christmas might give them another spike before Christmas. Yes, I'm the fortunate recipient of the "capsule escape artist" MS 66 coin...I'm hoping for a Pop 1 in that grade, but I can't complain..4- 70's out of 15 coins. If you submit sealed sets...it's always a gamble and you need to ask yourself..."Do I fee lucky?"

I'm predicting a FLOOD of graded sets hit the market over the next few weeks. The short-term peak is in, but what happens after a month or two when the flippers are done is an entirely different story. Call me crazy, as I already have quite a bit tied up in these sets, but if prices get pushed down enough from the flood that I think is coming I'll start buying every 69 set I can afford at $600ea. I don't know if prices will fall that far or not, but we're going to see a ton of slabbed sets for sale very soon. Shrewd buyers may have one more chance to buy these at a reasonable premium before things level off.

Well, the FLOOD has always been inevitable. Also, Don't overlook the target market for this set, which is in no way limited to Ebay. And as my buddy always says, don't forget, there's many ways to make a sandwich.
It will be interesting to see which 70 set FS label fetches the highest premium in a few months. I'm predicting that on Jan 31st,it will be the flag FS label.Bookmark this post!

You smoked them IMO!!! Three Rev Proof 70s is on fire - that coin has been commanding the highest premium of the entire set.

unfreakin believable.
edit to add: i got 3/5`s of a 70 set out of 25. >>
Remember, he said "from across the street."
That is why the 70 sets sell for less ($1,800 to $2,000 currently on eBay) and going down. Still a nice return! Hopefully, the PCGS 70 sets get down there so I can buy!
Comments
I wish I had more family that I could have used to get more sets but then again it would not have mattered because no one in their right would
have spent 5 hours on the computer trying to buy them.

If you bide/buyed your time, for $4K you will be able to buy 3 sets graded 70 guaranteed. The big winners so far appear to be the smart ones who sold their box of 5 for $4500+.

Personally, I expect the softening to continue but for prices to stay nicely elevated through the holidays. These will always command well over $299....I guess I'm being captain obvious there.
<< <i>Personally, I would have thought the 70 sets would be commanding a bit more $ but maybe they are getting readily handed out. Perhaps to most people, just having a set is what matters. I have heard the quality on these sets is generally high and the OGP looks pretty nice. (Mine are still in a sealed box so I haven't been able to check them out).

I think the biggest factor was the failure of the first graded 70 sets to draw $7-$8K money on eBay.

I'm not guaranteeing selling 3 sets. I'm predicting that prices will fall to the point where you can buy 3 graded 70 sets for $4K. The guaranteed refers to the fact that the coins will be 70s. The TPGs are sitting on chitloads of sets and pooping out 70s like they are going out of style.

blue label pcgs set ms70 went for $2900 today maybe because the pop for blue ms70 is quite low?
typical black pcgs 70 auction close is about $2300 lot more of these
NCC 70 price? meh, who cares...
BAJJERFAN will like this news -
pcgs 69 black labels closed at $1455 and $1499
There's just not alot of pcgs stuff on feebay right now that I can find. NGC is really cranking these ASE sets out.

Bummer, you took the bait. Let me ask you this. If you had been building a collection of ASE with First Strike Flag labels, you you want a 2011 tombstone First Strike label in the middle of your collection or 2011 Flag label?
<< <i>There are only so many dealer 70 sets. Be interesting what the second batch of dealer sets will offer. $2200 may not be unreasonable for a PCGS 70s set. I saw a flag 70 set go for $1850 on ebay last week. Those seem to be the rarer ones. >>

Sorry.... but it WAS worth taking a day out of work for....
<< <i> It really is simple math that told me to recruit as many people as possible to load up on these . Personally I'm pleased by the fact so many dealers and collectors shun modern coins. It simply means less competition on stuff like this . >>
It is their short term competition/interest that ran the prices up unnecessarily high to begin with.
<< <i>Not to be harsh but any Modern collector that thought this issue was NOT a no brainer really has to take a couple of steps back and rethink their beliefs....as was said above...2 key coins....one of those with a mint mark that has never been seen on this series and the other a follow up to a very popular issue 5 years ago...if all THAT was missed then how can the 100k mintage be ignored?? If you haven't heard the ASE series is a bit popular....
Sorry.... but it WAS worth taking a day out of work for.... >>
I couldn't agree more Boucharda ...
<< <i>I've been watching the prices realized for sealed 5'ers on Ebay since early last week and have observed the following:

(not wanting to spend extra on graded sets). I think so at least. But maybe not...

<< <i>The TPGs are sitting on chitloads of sets and pooping out 70s like they are going out of style. >>
The reality of the "small" submitter might go against the 70 diarrhea theory:

Out of those 10 sets submitted (the last 3 submissions reported on that thread) and using ALL 50 coins submitted there were, let me count them, ZERO complete 70 sets
I think someone just gave Kaopectate to the graders to make up for the gracious dealer grades >>
How do people think mixed sets of 69s and 70s will do? >>
Yes, I'm the fortunate recipient of the "capsule escape artist" MS 66 coin...I'm hoping for a Pop 1 in that grade, but I can't complain..4- 70's out of 15 coins. If you submit sealed sets...it's always a gamble and you need to ask yourself..."Do I fee lucky?"
<< <i>Also remember that PCGS/NGC are still probably sitting on 1000's and 1000's of sets that will be shipped out in the coming days/weeks it's likely that Ebay will be hit with a tsunami of graded 25th sets soon.
In light of the above, it's hard for me to imagine that sealed 5'er boxes will return to the $4250.00 - $4500.00 level anytime soon, but I suppose anything can happen longer term. >>
We'll see soon enough I suppose

Well, the FLOOD has always been inevitable. Also, Don't overlook the target market for this set, which is in no way limited to Ebay. And as my buddy always says, don't forget, there's many ways to make a sandwich.

You smoked them IMO!!! Three Rev Proof 70s is on fire - that coin has been commanding the highest premium of the entire set.
Congrats!

<< <i>Go back and re-read some of the early pages of this thread. >>
SEveral posters including my self were commenting that this was a winner. with a real fast sell out.. mint screwed up by allowing a 5 set HH limit . much too high for mintage
<< <i>1tommy......No escaped from capsule coins in your lot ... Congratulations >>

Remember, he said "from across the street."
That is why the 70 sets sell for less ($1,800 to $2,000 currently on eBay) and going down. Still a nice return! Hopefully, the PCGS 70 sets get down there so I can buy!
