I had a $5 San Francisco Old Mint Proof coin arrive out of the lens. I looked it over with a 16X loop. It was fine. I guess I was lucky. If I had to send it back, I would have just received a replacement. However, in the case of a sold out issue, what would you do if the coin had a scratch on it? What if it were one of the two "money" coins (RP or 'S') Grin and bear it???! Even worse is if this happens to a sealed set going off to a TPG service. Now you really get whacked!
"What we are never changes, but who we are ... never stops changing."
I'm not sure, exactly, WHERE my friend stands on this issue...
He ordered 3 times - 3, 1, & 1 - and recently received 3 letters from the Mint, one for each order... they required he complete and return these within 10 days of the date of the letter (11/4), otherwise the order(s) would be cancelled.
He keeps checking via the "Track Order" link on the Mint website - he doesn't have an account, never ordered from them before - and the first of the 3 orders, for 3 sets, won't come up, but the other two single sets ordered AFTER that DO show up, "on hold", with a BO / future delivery date...
He said that he has not received any emails from the Mint regarding his status on a waiting list, being cancelled, etc., so I must assume the Mint is waiting for these "confirmation letters" to be returned before giving them the "GO" signal...
I s'pose there's nothing I can tell him that's concrete, but have to ask if the Mint would go to the trouble of sending these letters, given the facts, for orders which, if legitimate, might still be cancelled?
Any thoughts?

Absolutely. I use heavy duty reinforced kraft paper tape on everything I ship - and so should the Mint. Their tape is so thin it looks like you can open the box simply by running your fingernail along the seam.
And as far as their packaging, I guess this really is how they assembled the sets:

I think single sealed boxes will hit $1K soon. Unsealed one are close to $700 with 22 hrs left to bid. I wish I didn't do that presale sealed box for $615 (oops did I just write that ). I don't think the buyer will cancel that sale. I think of it as a early Xmas present as a random act of kindness. At least, that is what my pride tells me.

If you look at any selling asking prices on ebay, there really isnt a big $ difference right now between sealed and unsealed. That'll probably widen later?
I called the geniuses at the mint again today about my order they cancelled yesterday after my cc was charged and everything was "good to go". Asked why, once again, they had no idea. They said yes my spending limit was $3k, so that wasn't an issue. Billing and shipping matched, so that wasn't an issue. When I asked when I'll get the $1500 back in my account they said that wasn't their problem (it's been gone for 3 days), and gave me the complaint hotline number. This is a joke. Just my rant for the day as I see all the giddy people getting their sets in hand
That video had me in stitches and water gusting from my eyes. That is one of the funniest parodies I have ever seen. Kudos to who sent the time to edit it. Must have been doing it while trying to place an order online or on the phone. A keeper in my book.

Right now you can buy any set and get the 25th Anniversary Set label and First Strike/Early Releases on the 'S' and 'RP' coin opened or not. Once that deadline passes, opened sets may see a decline in price. It really depends on your collecting/investing need at the moment of purchase.

<< <i>While you all rightly celebrate your sets on the way, this is what I have to show for my five hours of totally wasted effort - just got this:
Dear United States Mint Customer,
Thank you so much for your interest in the American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set.
Due to overwhelming demand, the product reached its production limit in sales quickly and the United States Mint accepted a limited number of orders on a waiting list in the event that products became available due to order cancellations.
At this time, we can only confirm that your order is on the waiting list. As we continue to process orders for the American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set, there may be cancellations that allow us to fulfill some portion of the waiting list orders.
Should we be able to fulfill your order, you will receive a shipping confirmation notification from us once your order has been shipped. If your order will not be processed, you will receive an order cancellation notification confirming this when your order is cancelled from our system.

My order was 5:42 eastern. When was yours. It would be interesting to figure out the time cut off for the different notices. >>
Raufus - my order was placed at 5:42 PM EDST as well but I have yet to receive a wait list or cancellation notice from the Mint. We may be able to determine the exact order number for the cut-off time. My order number is 383857xx.

MCM just waded into the crazy pool...no prices yet available for various sale options, including raw and graded.
