I just spoke to a US Mint customer service rep. and whether he is talking out of his ...... or if he really knows what is going on is another question.
Customers on online message boards are claiming their status is going from on hold to in process, so are these getting ready to ship? "No, shipping won't start until 11/10." Who knows what is really going on, I don't order frequently from the Mint, but some are saying that there is a good chance that these ship earlier than stated, bu tthis guy was pretty adimant that it won't start until the 10th.
My orders are in process but one, I ordered singles and the earliest was 12:06 in process, 12:12 in process, 12:19 on hold and 12:30 in process and one more I ordered the regular way on a different card, not sure how to check that one since it is not an account order.
"The Mint uses “hold” to mean that they need time to verify that the order is legitimate (in this case, not more than 5 sets per household) and that the customer’s credit card has sufficient funds. “In process” means that verification has been done, and now all it takes is for the Mint to see if there are enough sets ready for mailing."
Hold - verifying
In Progress - verification complete (sets are being tagged with your name).
It is kind of funny that the order for my last set was one minute later than my other set that is still on Hold when the other set (2) is "in progress"
I called my CC company right after palcing the orders to let them know there would be a few similar $$ amounts coming from the same place to help from getting them rejected.

Me, too. I'm torn between opening up and cherry-picking the best for submission or submitting the whole sealed box. I really don't want to pay to grade all 25 coins, but I would like a nice, graded set (70s ???). I'm leaning towards cherry picking and submitting the best and selling the remainder as raw sets. With such a quick sellout, selling raw sets doesn't seem to have too much downside to it, and you don't have to deal with the crooked buyer who says I sent a mint-sealed box of rocks or empty box.

Just based on the percentage graded 70's relative to 69's from the 06 reverse proof I would expect about 20% will reach the 70 grade. If you are shooting for a 70 set I think on average you could expect 1 70 back for an "s" and 1 for a "reverse proof" if you were to send in 5 sets never opened. If 20% of submissions get the 70 grade then I believe the reverse proof and "s" sell for around $1200 in the 70 grade with a set of 70's bringing around $3000. Sell the 70's set for $3000 and even if the rest are 69's those should fetch around $1000, so all in all you come away with around $7000 minus $500 in grading fees for a nice $6500 or a bottom line profit of $5000 on a $1500 investment for 5 sets.

My brother is on pins and needles right now, I told him to be at his computer at 12:00 on thursday and get 5 sets. I told him you can't lose on this one and the upside potential is enormous. He started around 3:00 and he couldn't get his order in until 5:30 and now he is going crazy because he is seeing the sales on ebay and missed the cutoff time by about 30 minutes. He wants to believe that he will get his order because he missed it by only 30 minutes and many orders are sure to get cancelled, but right now he is realizing that he should have taken me more seriously.
I told him aobut the lincoln chronicles set and he was all over that one and basically he told me that he sat at a computer for 2 hours only to make $60. I told him this is alot different and not to go by that, but he just assumed that this would be all hype and little money to be made and now he is kicking himself and nervously waiting to see if his order will g t filled.
<< <i>Now here's an obvious, yet interesting question nontheless...if you actually receive any significantly damaged coins (like some of the ATB pucks), there seems to be no recourse at all for any exchanges, correct? As the entire lot has been sold and will be distributed, there can only be returns for refunds.
Now when was the last time that happened on a Mint product?
PS...and since so many people will seemingly be submitting sealed boxes for grading, sight unseen, you might end up with some clinkers (that ordinarily wouldn't have been submitted) with unusually low grades. >>
RichR from what I've read in the past, the mint always mints more than the allotted amount specifically for this purpose. Now on the other hand that doesn't mean that a collector won't get a return from someone else that didn't think he got a 70. But from what I understand they do mint more than the limit to replace legitimately damaged coins.

Min'ts replacement policy is only good for seven days upon delivery to original buyer. Between coins caught up in pre-sale commitments and coins going in for grading I doubt the mint will see many returns on these. Unfortunately the "spares" won't go to the waiting list because of the limit on the mintage/sales. They probably destroy them after a set amount of time passes since the last shipments leave the mint.

My computer didn't behave the same way for this ordering session as previously. The pages never timed out - they just sat there and spun. I was waiting 20-30 mins with nothing happening, so I'd refresh once & repeat the cycle for hours. So thanks to everybody for sharing their ideas here to enable a few more of us to get through.

I was actually able to order six and canceled two before 12:37, I used the quick check out and the first two ordered went almost like clock work and loaded with in minutes and then and when I got to the third order placed the order page would just sit there loading, but then I figured it out that they were going through. so rinse and repeat. Paladin-
Congrats on getting through! Well done.
I'm trying to learn as well.
Five hours, myself, my father and brother and no luck at all.
It was pretty crazy. I was running Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera and was pretty much constantly refreshing each when they timed out. Started making things confusing too it couldn't have helped my carpal tunnel. Between four browsers and constant attempts eventual success in finding an opening.
Safari was the best....it seemed most willing to sit on a site and whir without timing out. Chrome ranked second. Firefox and Opera would just quickly time out.
These were the most difficult order ever from the Mint and I still feel lucky to have some coming.
Yikes, Tommy....let us know what the candy is and I'll stay away.

A ebay crook buying a sealed box and claiming there was nothing in the box leaves me with a few questions.
Assume the buyer (crook) would have little if any feedback in ebay, and that the seller has a lot of strong feedback on coins and such, would Ebay not take the side of an established seller? Also, if I state in my add, do not bid if you have less than 40 (whatever number you pick) ratings or I reserve the right to canel your bid, am I allowed to cancel the bid based upon my statement in the add that the buyer must have 40 ratings, or would ebay not allow me to cancel a bid? I would like to be able to cancel a sale if the buyer's history was five items at 2 bucks a piece, or go thru with a sale where a buyer bought 5 expensive items or coins.
It just occurred to me that the unique coins in the25th Anniversary set should have the First Strike designation regardless if theyre open sets or not. The logic to this is that since the coins sold out in such a short time, the mint is officially sold out and there will be no further mintage on these that these should technically qualify for First Strike designation regardless of the time submitted and if theyre sealed boxes or not. If everyone can remember the 2010 ATB 5 oz coins had an indefinite period of First Strike eligibility so these should technically have the same treatment.
The definition of First Strike is "coins packaged and delivered by the U.S. Mint in the 30 day period following the initial sales date of a new product as First Strike®". Since the coins were officially sold out within a day it means ALL coins will be packaged and delivered within the 30 days following initial sales.
<< <i>ALL coins will be packaged and delivered within the 30 days following initial sales. >>
Only in a perfect world, however, that has never been the case in the past. Those on the waiting list or individuals having returned sets for replacement, may not make it within the 30 day window. I agree, that the majority will have their sets withing that time frame.

If prices drop since the ebay purchase (and they have in a lot cases), many buyers will be using the 30 day violation to cancel transaction so they can buy at lower price.

<< <i>Called Friday to customer service and asked for update on Replacement Number #38391 and was told that number does not exist >>
Had the same issue - ordered 2 & 3 but somehow a 4 got through so I spent an hour dialing and got through and was told not to worry, the 4 will be deleted and the 3 & 2 will stand. A few hours later I logged on and the 4 & 2 were gone. Called again and was told they had no record of the order numbers I supplied - good thing I wrote them down (should have printed them) - but a supervisor promised to send the information to his higher ups and get back to me. Still waiting...
So my order number 38333*** became 38400***. At least my set of 3 is valid - for now

<< <i>paladin you have to hit refresh until the page comes up, then put in the amount and hit the continue button. You have to keep refreshing to get the page to fully load so the java works. Once it shows it moves to the next page you can refresh again if needed. I had to refresh five times probably for each order. >>
Thanks, HalfStrike. Your comment helped a lot.
<< <i>Open up multiple tabs and toggle between them. On one of the tabs go directly to your cart. You may be surprised by what's in it! >>
Thanks to you, too, mbogoman. The tabs idea helped as well.
My computer didn't behave the same way for this ordering session as previously. The pages never timed out - they
just sat there and spun. I was waiting 20-30 mins with nothing happening, so I'd refresh once & repeat the cycle for
hours. So thanks to everybody for sharing their ideas here to enable a few more of us to get through.

<< <i>My orders are in process but one, I ordered singles and the earliest was 12:06 in process, 12:12 in process, 12:19 on hold and 12:30 in process and one more I ordered the regular way on a different card, not sure how to check that one since it is not an account order. >>
You were able to get four, totally independant orders places in 30 minutes? Incredible. How did you do this when many took hours to just place one?
<< <i>Just based on the percentage graded 70's relative to 69's from the 06 reverse proof I would expect about 20% will reach the 70 grade. >>
I don't think that 20% of the bullion issue will make 70.
<< <i>There's absolutely no rhyme or reason to the "on hold" or "in process" designations.

I am just amazed that so many were able to get multiple, separate orders in in a short time while many others were not able to get a single order in over 5 hours. Just don't get it.

I was actually able to order six and canceled two before 12:37, I used the quick check out and the first two ordered went almost like clock work and loaded with in minutes and then and when I got to the third order placed the order page would just sit there loading, but then I figured it out that they were going through. so rinse and repeat. I was actually shocked my self they were going through even though the circle was just spinning saying loading.
Successful Trades: Swampboy,
<< <i>paladin I am happy you got the order in! These sets should be amazing, congratulations! >>
Thanks. I had just about given up. Got through at 4:08. Just made it.
Raufus - I'm trying to figure that out, too. Some placed multiple orders just minutes apart. It's like they were
somehow able to cut right through everything. That's the way my computer worked previously but not this time.
Wish I understood how these things work. Hopefully we'll be better prepared for the next one.

Wow, congrats. No luck here at all.
When you say rinse and repeat, for non-techies, can you please elaborate? Do you mean that you just assumed the the order was completed despite no confirmation and repeated? Thanks for any info.
<< <i>online order at 12:03 for 3 sets On hold brother got thru 3 hrs later 1 set In Process. Ate 1 piece of candy out here on vacation in calif and exploded a tooth, any profit from this set is for a new one , Oh But it is warm and sunny Enjoy >>
What the heck was the name of the candy? I need to know so the same doesn't happen to me.
All kidding aside, great way to start your vacation out there, Tom. Hope things improve for ya.

Paladin-
Congrats on getting through! Well done.
I'm trying to learn as well.
Five hours, myself, my father and brother and no luck at all.
What time did you finally get in?

Thanks Raufus. Just a real strange day. Sorry things didn't go better for you. For me, I had everything ready at
11:55, but when 12:00 came I refreshed the page & got kicked out. Never really recovered from that. Spent most
of the time just trying to get back to the ordering page. Go figure.

Sheesh, R--that just plain sucks. Strange day indeed. Sorry to hear that.
<< <i> Me, too. >>
The definition of First Strike is "coins packaged and delivered by the U.S. Mint in the 30 day period following the initial sales date of a new product as First Strike®". Since the coins were officially sold out within a day it means ALL coins will be packaged and delivered within the 30 days following initial sales.
what's the mint charging for these anyway? i've paid zero attention to any details

12;01 Called and 5 hours later still bussy.........but was "invited to 186 Serveys"if I ever got thru.
Placed an Internet order #38378...for 5 sets and printed order history del/11/11/backordered
Order disappered hour latter.....called and redialed non-stop therafter......
Got thru by phone 5;30pm to Customer service...Tried several times to dismiss me..Then LIED that replacement was needed
Customer service said # 38378... will need a replacement number#38391...from Suppviser for reference
Called Friday to customer service and asked for update on Replacement Number #38391 and was told that number does not exist
Went back to web site to check C.C.payment($40m available)was told that hundreds of other orders had disapeared also.
Called Monday 8AM and sent hard copy of order #38378......at US Mints @request >>
Seen this before, but can't recall if it meant anything THEN... probably logistics of sending out so many, having sold out in so short a time frame...
