I actyally ordered mine within the 1st hour. I heard no rattlers in my box.
I really am lucky. I bought a UHR when they first came out and sent it in to our hosts and got a MS70. This is my second batch of moderns to a grading service and another MS70. 21/21 on my modern submissions so far between both grading companies.
Not so hypothetical question to the Peanut Gallery regarding the future value of the ASE sets...
Has the Mint's seemingly higher quality control specs in producing these coins (ie the vast majority seem to have been produced in grades 69 or 70)...actually lower future appreciation because the entire pool of coins are in superior conditions?
Which would be ironic because we've always been demanding higher QC on Mint products...which would once again show that you should be careful what you wish for!

Didn't seem to hurt the UHR. Excluding the PLs, PCGS pop reports show a total of 14310 graded with 7372 graded MS70. That's a 51.5% rate of 70s, which is very near what we're approaching with the SAE 25th coins. 98% of the remainder of the UHRs were graded MS69...
The key to appreciation is really just how many SAE collectors there are? If the appreciation in the 2006's is not the effect of some secret unknown cabal, the 2011 keys should appreciate dramatically, even if they've been run over by a truck...the only mystery is when.
The first is the negative camp full of classic collectors who could only wish a purchase would double or triple in price within a couple weeks after making their purchase due to demand (not just buying from some poor widow who didn't know what she had), those that were shut-out and are therefore bitter, and those that were stut-out but will want to buy "short" inorder to get the sets they wanted and will talk tras until thay happens.
Then there is the other side with those luck to get them directly from the Mint and collect them yet expect them to increase in value like most coin collectors, those the got them from the Mint and are flipping them and those that bought on the secondary market and are pumping them with hopes of flipping them for a profit.
Until the two camps combine and the two extremes move towards the middle, the ture value of these sets will not be known.

Exactly right.
I love those in the hold them camp saying the current sells are from "weak hands". Weak hands do not spend an additional $700 on grading 5 sets and then wait an extra month to get slabs back. Weak hands sold the day they got them from the Mint. Mixed in were smart flippers who made well over 2K without grades in the first weeks.

No. Weak hands are those that sell even in a declining market because they have bills to pay. Those bills may be grading fees as well. Btw...only took about 2 weeks to get my 5 sets graded and I have held onto them (all but 1 coin I sold to a board member to help him complete a certain set).
Maybe they go back up, maybe they don't. It was a choice I made. I think some sellers weren't weak hands and they had a game plan, but there certainly are a lot of weeks hands FLOODING the market because they have bills from these.

Wrong. Weak hands as described in this thread are people who need to pay as soon as the CC bill comes. These weak hands don't want to wait another month for grading, plus the additional cost.
It seems the number of PCGS 70 sets available on eBay have started to decline while the individual coins have increased. Sure, there are still several sets for sale but it just doesn't seem to be as many as this time last week. Does anyone else see this? Even the tombstone sets seem to have declined. I am still waiting for the flood of 70 Flag set. It doesn't seem like it is happening.
Again, I am talking about PCGS 70 sets, not set from ATS.

About a 15% drop...last Friday, there were 366 PCGS graded coins for sale....today there are 311 .. BTW these figures include all grade ranges.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
It seems to me like these sets are basically following what the 20th anniversary sets did, the first few weeks and everybody wants one and they really don't care what they pay for it but now as the weeks have passed and that first appetite has been appeased the prices on the secondary market have dropped dramatically. I think within 2-3 weeks you will be able to pick up an ungraded set for about $450-$550 which is just about the percentage that the 20th anniversary set is going for.

Actually, if I remember right, the quantity of sets on the market stayed stead for weeks and weeks with may have caused "appetite" to be "appeased." However, it appears the supply may be starting to drop on the 25th sets, not the demand ("appetite") as most everything is still selling except the people wanting moon money (which makes me wonder why these sellers don't look at the going price). Then again, if they hold steady and the cheaper sets sell out, they may get their asking price.
Are we reaching the crossroad where supply may start being less than demand?

Agreed. I've been keeping an eye on total items listed for both "25 anniversary eagle" and "25 anniversary eagle set pcgs 70". The former is now flirting with going below 2,000 from a high nearer 2,300 and the latter is at/around 140 from a high of 160+. Of that 140, not many are actual sets.
There are some bargains to be had by eliminating 2011 from the search keywords btw. I saw a box of 5, albeit opened, go for less than $2,600 yesterday or $520 per set due to a sloppy listing.
Has anyone else noticed, the holder is once again worth more than the coin. I have been keeping track of these for over a week and I am still amazed at the difference in selling prices, same coin different holder. 70dcam Flag Holder Sample 2 the black holder........ I am starting to wonder if its worth it to start buying these up and having them reholdered for the 30 bucks each and than selling them? Oh and nice box of cookies cris mmmmm cookies Enjoy
I had to pay about $90 to UPS to receive my box of 5 sets, as I was charged 5% GST and UPS' brokerage fee for bringing the coins into Canada. There should be no tax on pure silver coins. However, there was no packing slip with an import/tax/whatever code to tell customs that. After talking to the mint, it turns out the information I need is inside my still sealed box of 5 They won't send me a letter with the same info, basically told me I have to open the box to get the packing slip/certificate of authenticity info. Then with that, I can file for a tax refund of $78 (UPS keeps their brokerage fee regardless).
Basically, keeping my box of 5 intact will cost me an extra $78 vs opening it up, or sending it off to get graded... I wasn't really planning on grading the coins, due to the extra costs of shipping across the border twice more.
How well are sealed boxes of 5 doing compared to single opened sets these days? What should I dooooo? :S
It is unfortunate with these great sets is that there are probably a lot of buyers some hundreds sitting on thousands of sets...A real sad state for the collector...

I was wondering how our friends in Canada were fairing with across the border shipments. Can't they open the box if there is no declaration on the outside and sometimes even if there is? I know a few Canadian buyers I have had in the past keep PO boxes in the States but I assume they live close to the border.
I believe you should be able to double your money on selling open set. However, and here comes the disclaimer , I really haven't been following raw sets, sealed or open. I am sure someone here can chime in on this.
I got my order in at the mint site within about 45 minutes, but I had a long wait as they snail mailed a letter to my shipping address to verify me as a new customer. My package shipped end of November (29th I think). Got here quick, paid the UPS man. Called the US Mint that day. They told me they'd send a letter with the required info. 2 weeks later still no letter, called them again today and got told they wouldn't be sending a letter since I already have the info inside my box.

Yep, there's stupid money to be made here. I gotta believe someone holding tombstone or signature sets has sent their sets back to PCGS to get relabeled with flags. Has a flag 70 set been sold yet on Ebay?

Yup, $1,350 to north of $2k for a 70 set. Lower prices are current with high prices when they first hit eBay.
Coasterfan ... there is maybe $100-$150 difference between flag and non-flag 70 sets. Hardly enough money to waste one's time paying for reholders, shipping back and forth, etc....no?

Hi Wondercoin, I was looking at the prices being paid for the 2011-W 25th Anniversary Set PF70 flag vs non-flag. Flags are going for $313-$333. Mercanti sigs are going for about $150. Haven't looked at the others in the set, but did notice some unsuccessfully trying to sell the 2011-S flag for twice the non-flag.

2009 was a very good year my friend...this year is not quite up to that, not even close but I'd have to say Im pretty lucky. Too bad there's no casinos nearby...I tend to get pretty lucky too at the blackjack tables.

Congratulations, rodzm! That's unbelievable. I did pretty well on my Mercanti signature submission, but nowhere near this.
They know not to touch my stuff so I was shocked to find this when I got home
and even more surprised when I opened it further.....

Out of curiosity were you one of the late orders that just received them? >>
I actyally ordered mine within the 1st hour. I heard no rattlers in my box.
I really am lucky. I bought a UHR when they first came out and sent it in to our hosts and got a MS70. This is my second batch of moderns to a grading service and another MS70. 21/21 on my modern submissions so far between both grading companies.

The people saying that these will not appreciate are the same people who said it would take 2 weeks for these sell out at the mint.

Ya those people are scaring me I think I will sell tonight . Not really
<< <i>The key to appreciation is really just how many SAE collectors there are? If the appreciation in the 2006's is not the effect of some secret unknown cabal, the 2011 keys should appreciate dramatically, even if they've been run over by a truck...the only mystery is when. >>
Geez...I hope that doesn't happen to mine....
My BO5 is in the closet until February then......

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Wrong. Weak hands as described in this thread are people who need to pay as soon as the CC bill comes. These weak hands don't want to wait another month for grading, plus the additional cost.
Again, I am talking about PCGS 70 sets, not set from ATS.
<< <i>It seems the number of PCGS 70 sets available on eBay have started to decline while the individual coins have increased. Sure, there are still several sets for sale but it just doesn't seem to be as many as this time last week. Does anyone else see this? Even the tombstone sets seem to have declined. I am still waiting for the flood of 70 Flag set. It doesn't seem like it is happening.

About a 15% drop...last Friday, there were 366 PCGS graded coins for sale....today there are 311 .. BTW these figures include all grade ranges.
Chuck.
Ever Onward
<< <i>It seems to me like these sets are basically following what the 20th anniversary sets did, the first few weeks and everybody wants one and they really don't care what they pay for it but now as the weeks have passed and that first appetite has been appeased the prices on the secondary market have dropped dramatically. I think within 2-3 weeks you will be able to pick up an ungraded set for about $450-$550 which is just about the percentage that the 20th anniversary set is going for.
Chuck. >>

I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

How long did it take to get to you?
I believe you should be able to double your money on selling open set. However, and here comes the disclaimer , I really haven't been following raw sets, sealed or open. I am sure someone here can chime in on this.
<< <i>How long did it take to get to you? >>
I got my order in at the mint site within about 45 minutes, but I had a long wait as they snail mailed a letter to my shipping address to verify me as a new customer. My package shipped end of November (29th I think). Got here quick, paid the UPS man. Called the US Mint that day. They told me they'd send a letter with the required info. 2 weeks later still no letter, called them again today and got told they wouldn't be sending a letter since I already have the info inside my box.
<< <i>Has anyone else noticed, the holder is once again worth more than the coin. Oh and nice box of cookies cris mmmmm cookies Enjoy >>

Wondercoin
<< <i>Coasterfan ... there is maybe $100-$150 difference between flag and non-flag 70 sets.

Flag sold for $255
Mercanti sig sold for $131
