Guess I'll step back into this conversation after a hiatus when the ATB group order crashed and burned (thanks again to the MsM for all the work on that). I've been closely following and posting re the ATB's 5 oz since the legislation was passed, over a year now.
A couple days ago I spoke with a sales rep at Collector's Alliance who are actively selling ATB sets. They have ANACS sets ms69 for $4000 (if I recall correctly). I passed.
They also have raw sets for $3000 each. I passed again.
The rep also told me that there was ONE ms70 (ANACS) attributed so far, that sold for $30,000 at "auction". He couldn't tell me what auction though.
I'm half thinking BS, simply hype, since I have not heard this elsewhere. Since this thread is likely attracting the attention of most of the hard-core collector community on this series, seems like this would have surfaced before now.
If anyone else can verify this ms70 "rumor", please speak up.

We've already seen what can happen when the mint tries to please all the people all the time. That's a fairly aggressive production schedule for the year. Not sure how they're going to pull it off. It'll be an interesting ride, that's for sure!

Can you imagine how slow the USM's website is going to be with all of those folks trying to hit the buttons to buy 5 separate coins? It was going to be bad enough with everyone trying to buy one set. Of course, a lot of it is speculation, and I think we can hardly rule out that they're not going to make 5-coin sets. But perhaps they're selling them individually because they think more people will at least get a coin.

It's interesting that so many of us got out PCGS grades - the first PCGS grades reported on this forum - on the exact same day. Just curious, did you all submit express? I did. If you all did not, and we got the APMEX pucks about the same day it looks like I wasted about $100 :-(
I bet they were waiting for the extra large slabs to come in and they piled up the pucks in the back corner until they arrived. When they arrived, they processed them all together on the same day.

It's really amazing how the coinsantiques/Gold Center hoard has crashed the market on these things. They look to be down about $700 from just a week ago. It's just incredible that The Mint has taken no action against TGC. You'd think that coinsantiques would slow down the pace of sales to keep their own prices up. Moronic sales strategy.
After seing how some of the grades are coming out it really makes me wonder how HSN got 200+ sets at MS69. Makes me suspect some of the TPG's grade the big tv people with one eye shut. Either that or they got a boatload of the pucks.
Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
Would it be a fair guess to say that about 20,000 of the 33,000 sets got diverted to the land of plastic? TD

<< <i>So, for the APs that make you fill out an application that has a SSN.....
What do you think would happen, if anything, if there were a typo with the SSN? Since buying these aren't going to get you reported to the IRS, there really isn't a SSN crosscheck to worry about, right? I haven't been following the price action, but why does that surprise anyone? Did anyone really believe Hausman from Gold Center that the sets were going to end up between $10,000-$15,000? If he really thought that, then he's probably the dumbest speculator in Modern Coin history.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
I was not even referring to the moronic GC comments. I was referring to the coinsantiques ebay seller who the GC jer* sold in bulk to. It just seems so stupid and self-defeating for the coinsantiques seller to flood the market w/these puck sets and drop the prices so fast in stead of selling at a much more controlled rate.

Not to worry, there will be large price increases down the road beginning with the Mints release of the collector version and the wide distribution of these initial sets. If you dont need quick money right away, I believe these are a good investment "to hold".--------------BigE

The ebay price dropped yesterday because THR sold 16 sets within 45 minutes using auction based bidding. This confirms what I was said before, buy and HOLD. The price artificially deflated from $2,400 to as low as $1,936 durring that short period of time. The price rebounded to around $2,150 today. When the floodgates open, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go down to $1,600/set.
It could be a simple cash flow problem. No doubt it was a cash transaction and I'm sure there was a premium paid to the GC clown so thats alot of money to lay out at one time for all the sets he has, most people don't have that kinda money just laying around. Even at 2x face he's making a nice profit given the volume of sets he has. At least the market will be rid of him fairly soon unless he has even more.

He'll only get hit for taxes on the Net Profit. He's probably spending about $80/sale. If he sells 100 sets for a average of $420 profit per set, he's making $42,000 while investing only $150,000. That's a great ROI.
When I have the time I'd like to look back and see what percentage of total sales have been his recently.
I wonder how many he has. A prior poster said that the GC schumck sold Silvertowne 300 sets. I wonder whether that was what he sold all of "his real customers".

What flood gates? Even when the other APs sell, if they stick to 1 HH like Ftrade and MTB seemed to have done they will be in much tighter hands than the GC bulk sale pucks.

I knew it would happen.
<< <i>It's really amazing how the coinsantiques/Gold Center hoard has crashed the market on these things. They look to be down about $700 from just a week ago. It's just incredible that The Mint has taken no action against TGC. You'd think that coinsantiques would slow down the pace of sales to keep their own prices up. Moronic sales strategy.
I haven't been following the price action, but why does that surprise anyone? Did anyone really believe Hausman from Gold Center that the sets were going to end up between $10,000-$15,000? If he really thought that, then he's probably the dumbest speculator in Modern Coin history. >>
Some people can be prognosticators and some can be manipulators. We get to decide.
<< <i>I was not even referring to the moronic GC comments. >>

<< <i>It could be a simple cash flow problem. >>
People claimed that sets were purchased in bulk for $1,500/set.

He'll only get hit for taxes on the Net Profit. He's probably spending about $80/sale. If he sells 100 sets for a average of $420 profit per set, he's making $42,000 while investing only $150,000. That's a great ROI.
