IMO I don't think that the mint will sell many more of these, regardless of if they minted more or not. The POG is likely very soon to go parabolic, and that will end the sales of US mint gold one way or another.
Bank of America is rumored to be very near to throwing in the towel. The federal reserve is preparing QE2 to infinity, and unfortunately the US economy appears to be very near collapse.
However, if this happens these Buchanans will likely be just worth their gold bullion value, ~ $1000 each.
I received my proof yesterday from back in Sept when I returned one proof and one UNC, My UNC still is back ordered to 11/09? Oh well at least I am getting them at the $779 for the proof and what ever the UNC's were on Sept 17. I have not opened it yet, I still have a proof eligible for FS sealed.
I think it means there is plenty of supply on the market for sale and few buyers, this is actually good for the coin long-term. If nobody buys for another couple months then all they can sell is what is left, I doubt it goes to the max mintage. I also think the Lincoln coin may not sell very well if prices stay this high, maybe 15,000 max for that one or even less than 13,000.
My PCGS First Strike Grades are back. 4 MS 70 2 PF 70 and 1 MS 69 and 1 PF 69. Maybe it was worth the frustration I went through from the mint. I will keep the 3 proofs raw (one went to my mom) and one MS which is a struck thru.
BTW, still waiting for the money. This is the longest wait ever. Not sure why everything is taking so long.
Call the mint. They need to call headquarters to get the refund through. My exchanges were held up for over 3 weeks because the reps fed me the wrong information. They said that the credit went through but actually is was on their list to be credited. I finally got a rep who knew what she was doing and she called headquarters to push the credit through on my credit card. My coins were delivered two days later.

<< <i>Is there any secondary market for the raw coins? I have 10 uncs and 10 proofs that will supposedly ship November and I wonder if I should cancel them. >>
I hope there is one too, but I think we will just have to wait until they are sold out or pulled from the shelf in Sept 2011.
Yes there is a market for these if you can afford to hold for several years, but these will probably be new collectors. Existing collectors will have their collections completed with this coin. JMHO. I was on the fence on these in 08 and decided not to buy the Jackson or Van Buren. I just don't see that many 08s out there for sale today. A Van Buren Liberty PCGS PF FS went for around $1900 on ebay just a few weeks ago and it was an auction not a BIN. Of course, I don't know who was bidding? Dealers or Collectors?
Even if there is not a market for these, a rising price of gold will likely lift this boat over the next several years.
In the unlikely event that gold crashes, there should be some price protection for the entire Liberty subset because of its attractive designs and low mintages.
I think they are now selling returns. I put two separate orders. The first box ( MS) was pretty good and I returned only 20%. The second box was bad and return about 80%. Several coins have identical nicks (deep nick in front of forehead, a spot under neck, Reverse-- bag mark? on the broom and a nick in right elbow). Also send back about 60% of proofs which have a lot of nicks and black spots? on both side.) I was thinking about getting a replacement but decided to get a refund. So, check carefully if you are ordering it now.
Even though the UNC Buchanan is no longer in back order, the one I returned for exchange in late Sept is still in backorder?? And the ship date is kept pushing back and it is now 11/12/2010.
I got my last Liberty Buch Proof yesterday-it was an exchange(actually I wanted a refund but he mint messed so decided to let it go through since it was at the old price) and its perfect. No frost breaks and its flawless.
There has to be at least some type of secondary market for these because I sold one at Coinfest to a dealer Thursday afternoon in a PCGS PR69DCAM holder for over $900.

Does the Mint have new stocks in hand or what?! >>
Same here. I just might order another and cancel the replacement if the second order arrives first.
I returned 10 unc and 10 proofs in September for exchange. Took the mint forever to process the return, then the ship date kept slipping from November 12 to November 15. Now the order says "line item cancelled" for the reships.

Call and ask why they'd go to cancelled.
Odd that they'd have them on BO, then hit you with a cancellation.
They do not show a BO right now.
and they way you have it written sounds like both proofs and uncircs were cancelled.
and the headline for the last mint stats was No sellout for Buchanan gold and total Buchanan sales were only 10,039
Makes me wonder if they were putting the issue on 'backorder' to wait and see how many more orders came in. But, these flamed out with virtually zero additional orders, so they are probably just wrapping up the remaining returns and that may be all she wrote. They will most likely not do another run if no orders are coming in, and it sounds like everyone has no further interest in the issue.
When the Lincoln comes out... better order fast and early.... may be a limited run also.
For the past couple of years, they have been selling them until the next year when the same number (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th of the year) president's spouse came out.
Why, with sales at 10,039/15,000, would they take them "off sale" and into "sold out" ??
PS: I do note that the previous weeks numbers were higher at 10,061 due to net sales of 7 proofs and net returns of 29 uncirculateds over this past week.
The mint should put a fork in this and end all orders for Buchanan spouse coins, melt all the remaining coins and says that's all folks. It is best for all involved.

I agree. I got 3 PCGS MS70's and two PCGS PR70's to sell for a profit some day. Rather mercenary.
I'm beginning to think there really might have been a short stike. I think they were definitely preparing to do another run... but did they in fact do so, before the interest died? I see no clear signs that another run has been completed.... but then I do not see any clear sign that shows it has not take place either. Time to start buying some of the cheap ones on eBay?
I notice that Jacksons and Van Burens, unc. and proof, have been moving up and are now fetching over $1000 each on eBay in 69 and raw. Looks like some are expecting that they will be the keys.
It's been awhile since I read this thread and this time I jumped to the last page so I missed several pages. That said, just what I've observed: Many of the first proofs sent were terrible (frost breaks), the day I received mine I ordered two more and sent the originals back. So I wonder if they had a lot more headaches with this particular design and they'd prefer not to deal with them anymore. They haven't been breaking any sales records with the series. Second, when I called to see how much longer it may take to get the credit on my credit card for the return, I was told they were swamped with returns and were behind in processing them. A short strike would not surprise me.
Remember, I'm pullen for ya; we're all in this together.---Red Green---

Where can one buy these?
"Product will be available for shipping 10/20/2010"
which is tomorrow.... unlike the earlier date shown for both, which was sometime in November.

Yes, that makes me laugh! My AGE One Ouncers remain on B/O for Nov. 3rd. Last in, first out!? Hah!
Now that the price of Gold has dropped, I would predict the AGE's will ship soon!

I know the price is hard to swallow these days but that surprises me. Does that mean they are out of original production and are selling returns?
Just this last Tuesday, Oct 26th did I get a confirmation of return email.
Maybe they're just getting to the returns, so that's why the numbers haven't moved.
