PCGS will hopefully open up shop right here on the east coast. First choice would be washington,D.C. so when you buy your coins at the mint store you then can take them to PCGS and then they can mail them back to you when done. A second option to CA.
you won't get it because a major part of what we'll be doing comes from way out in left field.
Maybe something like a Grey Sheet...A PCGS Grey Sheet where they offer to buy your newly encapsulated (pcgs) coins @ (pcgs) bid.....then offer them to CU members @ (pcgs) ask.
So you can send a raw coin in for grade.....and never see it again.....you just get a check!......bye...bye...ebay.
Then pcgs takes a look at the Registry Sets and sees that Joe plumber needs a xxxx coin and offers it.........I like it, it does what hotels and resorts have been trying for years,
it keeps most everyone on the property...
Mr. Hall, If this is not the big one, it could be down the road, so I'll be wantin a check every now and then....
precious metals grading and assaying service, buying selling and authenticating. Similar to Apmex but able to place grades or purity on metals. dats the big one guess
then for the littler one on ebay you type in the certification number and not only does it identify the type of coin and grade but also a picture of coin
the littlest one ability to submit for non members
Coinnews.net reports "one of the major grading services" is contemplating designating coins as Premium Quality. That's my guess, along with some new security technologies (RFID tags, online photos, all/other?), and forming a separate trading entity--arm's length, of course--that trades only in PCGS coins.
(1) Fees linked to PCGS price guide. (2) Letter suffixes (A, B, C) on the Sheldon grade. (3) A monetary incentive to identify higher grade coins for the respective date in order to re-validate pop reports.

Another suggestion is to fill the internal space in the new hermetically-sealed airtight archival-quality PCGS holders with helium, hoping the inert gas will deter changes to the coin surfaces. An incidental collateral effect of the helium will be to make the holders just slightly lighter in weight, with little risk any would float away like balloons. Moreover, the tiny weight reduction could reduce postage costs a tad, and also lessen the impact when you accidentally drop the holders on the floor.
PCGS secures H1 visas for the chinese counterfeiters "to help identify their product" (rather than produce more.) They make offers they can't refuse for their presses and molding machines to take them offline.
(ok, I admit it... I'm hurting for ideas here... it's been hard)
I dont know if this has already been guessed. I did not read thru all the posts.
PhotoArchived (R) --- where each coin graded and or slabbed can be looked up (for reference and to view photos of it) on the internet. ?????
Advanced collector of BREWERIANA. Early beer advertising (beer cans, tap knobs, foam scrapers, trays, tin signs, lithos, paper, etc)....My first love...U.S. COINS!
Coin fingerprinting will be the new PCGS adventure. Coins will be able to be identified by image looking at various identifying characteristics. This will prevent counterfeits from getting into PCGS holders (or Chinese look alikes). This information together with RFID imbedded into the label will create a trackable, identifiable slab. A database has probably already begun of the images without notice.
I've no idea what he will announce exactly, but I'm pretty sure what won't be announced for reasons I posted in Anaconda's thread today... but some of these ideas have already been bandied about here, so I guess it works in this thread too.
(from Adrian's thread...) Interesting thread. I've thought all along something like your decimal idea would be implemented, but not with as many increments in any given grade of unc. It would be impossible for the graders to split the grades into tenths with any kind of consistency. Possibly two or three designations within any given grade of unc., but that's about it.
From a business standpoint it benefits PCGS tremendously with all the re-submissions. From the standpoint of the collector and the hobby I think it is terrible if something like requiring a re-grade on all coins already certified were implemented. Some words like exploitation come to mind, as well as some I can't mention here, and Hall is a smart cookie, the backlash would be bad and he knows that.
As far as your postscript, there are some mighty big ego's involved, I'm really not exactly sure how a buyout of CAC could actually occur. And if it were, with some of the principals of CAC being either bought out or absorbed into the PCGS empire, it would sure seem like a sellout on their part, having abandoned all the quality NGC material to do PCGS exclusively. Again, not a plus for the hobby. Or for their reputations. Can't see that happening either.
All just MHO of course...
John
Edited to add, requiring a regrade won't happen of course. Bad choice of words. But there will be plenty of submissions under such a scheme to upgrade.
Someone indicated that whatever it is, it will result in PCGS making a lot of money. I agree, they are going to slash grading fees in order to drive up the number of submissions; it will be a proverbial win-win for them and us.

1. Radically change the grading designations for items like 1856 IHC. Grade these as SP (or some other designation) instead of PR or MS. Take similar steps for other coins, like 19th century proofs that are questionable whether they are proofs. These is a whole list of coins that could be changed.
2. Start a PQ grading system, like using a plus sign or a star
1. Lower the prices on grading coins of a certain series... such as Modern, SBA, NA, IKES etc... as these series are not in that high demand... - at least not at the present!!
2. They will start their our Auction for coins... not like ebay but more like Teletrade...
3. They will come out with a new type slab... (there is law being introduced at least in NY where a person buying a slabbed coin will need to or have to be able to show the coin outside the slab before they sell the coin... I think someone at least is proposing this...
& as a last stab in the dark guess, They will buy any coin they grade for a set scale price as long as the slab was not tamper with... (maybe like 80% of the retail price guide)

Those who are collecting SILVER... will be wealthy shortly!!
While I have not read every post in this thread, I have read many, I hope I didn't re-guess someone's guess, but here goes:
One of the big ones will: A. Eliminate (or greatly reduce) the human element in coin grading B. Completely eliminate CAC from the equation C. Make most collectors want their coins to be re-submitted. D. Allow coins to be easily tracked and inventoried.
My guess is that PCGS has developed and copyrighted a new technology which will digitally capture the 3D surface of each coin. Then through special algorithms generate a 3D digital signature. These 3D digital signatures will be unique to each coin, which will all but eliminate counterfeits, easily identify stolen coins, allow for easy inventory tracking and allow for an exact numerical value (on a scale of 1.00 to 70 or 1.00 to 100) for grading purposes. The results will be scientific in that a specific coin will generate the same results each time. And will also produce the highest resolution, most life-like photographs ever seen.
<<My guess is that PCGS has developed and copyrighted a new technology which will digitally capture the 3D surface of each coin. >>
The technology has been around for years; it was used at ground zero in NY to evaluate the stability of the buildings still standing to see if they were still moving and under a threat of collapse. It is called LIDAR; the question is are they using it to evaluate the surface conditions of a coin. I have seen an image of a pigeon that was captured with LIDAR and you can count the pin feathers; it is very precise and can be used on a small scale.
