Three packs of 1980 OPC hockey purchased from BBCE for $65 per pack. No HOF RCs and nothing worth submitting.

Two packs of 1974 Topps basketball purchased from BBCE for $60 per pack. Was hoping for a PSA worthy Gervin RC but no dice. No cards worth subbing out of these packs.

Five packs of 1977 Topps basketball purchased from BBCE for $17 per pack. Didn't pull a Dantley. Nothing worth submitting, looking at VCP only sure-fire 10s should be submitted because 9s don't sell for anything.

Five packs of 1978 Topps basketball purchased from BBCE for $9 per pack. Looking for a DJ RC but didn't get one. Not having much luck with the packs this morning.

Robb - you must have a heckuva '86 Fleer hoops set going by now. Thanks (as always) for the rips.

Five packs of 1978 OPC hockey purchased from BBCE for $18 per pack. Pulled a Federko RC but too OC to submit. Majority of the cards had centering problems those that did not had at least one soft corner so no submittable cards from these packs either.

Thanks for the scans and info on your rips. You've given me the urge to have a crack myself. Have a few OPC packs from the late 70's plus an OPC box each from 81/82, 82/83 and 84/85. Figure I'll end up with 99% OC cards but here's hoping for a decent Federko and/or Bossy.

    Pity about your Federko.
Collecting HOF RC's in hockey, baseball, football and basketball. A fool's errand some have said.

    funny how people are different.

I cringe when I even think about ripping vintage stuff. In fact one of the reasons I am crossing over all my packs to PSA is to make it tougher for kooks--LOL--like you who LOVE to rip vintage wax.....arghhhhhhhhh!

Course just kiddin...it is quite a rush to rip them...though infrequently do I do it

Ripping is fun but the ROI is horrible 90+% of the time.

One box of 1991 Topps Stadium Club football purchased from BBCE for $75. Happy to get at least one Farve RC, will sub at some point. 1991 Stadium Club football is one of my favorite boxes to open even though there is only one hit in the entire set. I like 1980 basketball boxes better but you can't beat the price point for 91 SC.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased at the National from BBCE for $333. Figured I would see if I could get a checklist or Worthy RC (both do pretty well in PSA 10), but sadly received another Ewing pack. I don't plan to submit any cards from this rip mostly due to centering.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $333 last week. This pack came out of new box they just cracked open. Decent star power, planning to submit 6 or 7 of these. I think most will get 9s due to centering but they have 9/10 corners and edges. A couple have a very minor touch on the bottom right corner

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $333 last week. This pack came out of new box they just cracked open. Centering was not very good in the pack. Don't plan to submit any cards for grading. Had two Frank Johnson cards back to back, too bad it wasn't back to back Jordans.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $333 last week. This pack came out of new box they just cracked open. Pretty good star power, two HOF RCs, plan to submit 8 of the cards from this pack. Most are mid to weak 9 candidates but I need many of them for my self submitted PSA 9 86 Fleer set so going to roll the dice and hope I get some back to add to my set. The pack only had 11 cards and a sticker instead of the normal 12, poor quality control by Fleer. Lastly I have noticed these packs don't have as much gum dust and some I've seen, the gum card has been damaged on 2 of the 3 packs I've opened thus far. Packs are definitely legit.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $333 last week. This pack came out of new box they just cracked open. Plan to sub 3 of the cards, second half of the pack after sequence shift centering was pretty poor but the Checklist and Worthy are notorious for poor centering.

I still have three 86 Fleer packs left from the National but will save those for another day.
Have one 79 OPC pack I purchased with the 5 86 Fleer packs but will open that later as well.

I purchased one pack of 86-87 from my local baseball card shop back in 88-89(ish).... for 50 cents. (This was before basketball and football took off, obviously.) Had I known, I would have bought all of it.

Anyway, it was THIS pack, exactly.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Ordered some more unopened after swinging and missing with the last 5 packs of 86 Fleer I purchased from BBCE. Ordered these yesterday with Saturday (today) delivery.
Going to open a pack or two of the 86 Fleer basketball then probably move on to the 80/81 Topps box.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $333. Awesome pack but somehow I think the ripping can only go downhill from here. The Jordan is an easy 9 with an outside chance at a 10 (if it were any other card in the set I would say good chance) but all the cards in the pack are the tinniest bit short. I will be one unhappy PSA submitter if the Jordan gets and EOT when I send it to PSA on Monday. Including the Jordan I plan to sub 5 cards from this pack.
And for those counting yes I did just buy 10 packs of 86 Fleer basketball from BBCE in basically a week.

Eight packs of 1977/78 Topps basketball purchased from BBCE for $17 per pack. I need a Dantley PSA 9 for my PC (if anyone has one I will pay well over the last VCP sale) but alas only got one HOF RC, Robert Parish, and it looks like an 8/9 candidate due to top to bottom centering.

    Ferg,

Congrats on another Michael. After spending all that money I was glad to see that you got at least one.

My question to you: I know you know a LOT about how PSA grades this set ... I measured the Jordan, at it's worst point, 57/43 top to bottom. (Top right and bottom right.) How much "swing" will they give on this set before they would NOT put it in a "10" slab? I know what the GUIDELINES state, but we know that they get applied differently at times.

The only thing I've noticed between PSA 9 and PSA 10 cards from those I submitted is the chipping in the blue area along the sides. Even minor chips that show any white seem to result in 9s. I think the top/bottom centering is close enough with the Jordan but everyone on this board knows that key cards in a set are graded more strictly by PSA. I will be happy if it gets a 9.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $333. Probably will only sub the Carroll from the pack and maybe the Akeem.

Those 77/78 Topps packs are fun. I bought 5 in the last 2 months from the bbce. 2 maravichs, 2 david thompsons, walton, dawkins rc. Kareem with gum stain unfortunately.

All the cards were really sharp. Seems like they got a good batch of 77/78's. Has anyone opened any 75/76 or 74/75 topps basketball packs?

    Great Jordan!

From my latest sub. Am pretty bummed with the Min Size on the Jordan. Will try to re-sub it at some point and then move on to BGS if PSA won't slab it. Not sure why the second B/M RC got a 7 but since it received a Miscut the other times I sent it in I'm just glad it got graded.
