<< <i>Question to the board - What does everyone think about replacing the Action Packed rookie cards (Cortez Kennedy, Shannon Sharpe, Junior Seau) with their next best rookie cards? I really dislike the action packed cards (because of the uneven surface) and would really prefer the 1990 Score Supplemental for Kennedy and Seau and 1991 Bowman/Pacifc/Topps (we would have to decide which one) for Sharpe. Just so that everyone knows - this would actually hurt me because I don't have any of the cards that I've suggested already signed and would have to remove the Seau and Kenndy cards from my sets (Future HOF rookie and HOF rookie).

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

    Greg M. >>

this is one of the reasons i am not into this set. my other issue is what to do with the RC of Brady and Manning. to get them and then get the signed will cost an arm and a leg.

Just a thought, could we break the set into two? A vintage (1933-1975) and a modern (1976-present)? I with Jay on this topic. The more we get into the 90s, the more I'm losing interest in paying for Brady, Manning ect....

    Reese,

If you guys would rather collect the vintage set, then I can request that it be added to the registry. What cutoff year would you like to use? I personally think that 1989 is a good cutoff (i.e. before the explosion of new sets starting in 1990), however I can request an earlier year if you would prefer. Let me know. Thanks.

I'd be good at ending it at 1989. Would we keep the set the way it is now and then just add 2 additional sets?

A huge huge huge thank you to Scott (OTWCARDS) for my new additions! I am now the proud owner of both a 1948 Leaf Steve Van Buren and 1948 Leaf George McAfee!

From the 1948 Leaf Set, I am now only missing Leo Nomellini, Bobby Layne, and Bob Waterfield!

    Reese,

Great pickups on the McAfee and Van Buren! You're down to 3 toughies in the 1948 Leaf set! I have never seen a signed 48 Bowman or Leaf Waterfield - have you? There are definately signed examples out there - we just haven't stumbled across any yet.

Any predictions on the Senior HOF nominees? I believe they will release the candidate names later this week.

I have not seen a signed Waterfield RC in either the Bowman or Leaf set. I do have a 50 Bowman signed and I have seen both the 51 and 52 Large signed.

I really need the 1951 to wrap up the set. Down to 10, with 2 living members (not sure how Roy Steiner and YA Tittle have eluded me!)

I'm not sure on the seniors. Any thoughts? It's always such a surprise!

down to 10 for the 1951 Bowman set is amazing! I wouldn't bother Steiner - he can barely write anymore. As for Tittle, he's signing at several upcoming shows -so you could him done easily.

Did you see the Senior nominees were announced - Curly Culp and Dave Robinson. Thankfully, I have signed rookie cards of both (I might have doubles of Culp). How about everyone else?

You should have told us you got it for something insane like $74.95 and then we would have all been kicking ourselves even harder for missing it!

Curley Culp is an easy autograph, but he personalizes almost everything. I got Dave Robinson's 1967 Philadelphia Rookie signed about a month. Sent him the $5. He personalized it :To Mike and returned the $5. I wouldn't mind getting another one except not personalized. Both guys deserve the Hall of Fame, but I wanted to see Al Wistert, Jerry Kramer, and Johnny Robinson get in instead.

Al Wistert, Lavvi Dilweg and Mac Speedie are the most deserving and overlooked of the pre-1960 players. I'd still love to see Duke Slater get in, but his professional career was somewhat nondescript although his contributions were enormous.

Kenny Washington and Woody Strode should be in the Hall of Fame as well. If Fritz Pollard got in Duke Slater and Kenny Washington should be in as well.

Reese - yes, he charges $30 per item and his mailing address is:

Dick Kazmaier Associates Attn: Dick Kazmaier Memorabilia 676 Elm Street Concord MA 01742 USA

I've never written to him TTM - I got my 55 Topps AA signed at a show several years ago.

For what its worth, I sent to Kazmaier in mid-Feburary (with a 30.00 check) and have not received anything back yet. Based on sportscollectors.net he seems to take a while to respond- no one has posted any successes since March, but some of the earlier ones took 146 and even 180 days. But he has not cashed my check yet, so Im not terribly hopeful that its coming back.

    All,

It's been too quite around here lately! Anyone have any new pickups to share?

I currently have a 48 Leaf George McAfee PSA/DNA and an Ace Parker 55 Topps All American PSA/DNA for sale or trade if anyone is interested. I've got duplicates of both. PM me if interested.

Ha - the problem w/ the modern candidates for the 2013 class is that very few of them sign TTM.....Larry Allen, Nate Newton, Warren Sapp, Cris Carter, ect.... plus I haven't seen any signings recently for them. It's going to be tougher going forward finding signed cards of new HOF inductees unless I get the cards signed at paid signings.

I've been working on some other football sets during this time. Greg and I have talked for some time about creating a separate thread about the signed cards we pick up for our vintage sets we are building. Would anyone be opposed to adding our additions to this thread? Since we already have a core group of football collectors contributing here it may be a good way to keep everything in one spot plus we could continue helping each other out along the way.

Let me know what everyone thinks!
