I mean, wern't the Yanks left for dead a few weeks ago....now you all have put out the welcome mat, and have put on your brightest lipstick and dress. Sad indeed.
JS - don't worry, man. Like I said on another thread, its July 26th, and there are over two months left in the season. Somewhere around 60 games. Nobody thought that the Yankees, with their limitless payroll, would just disappear.
Before this series started, ultra-Yankee fan Mike Francesa (WFAN in NY) said "This series really means nothing. It's fun and all, but there are way too many games left to play". Not to mention, the Yankees have a much tougher schedule ahead - including three series against the Angels (who absolutely own them) - two on the road, and one at home. The Red Sox have no more West Coast trips left.

Well the rain is coming down ferociously -30 minutes out of Boston here and looks like its going to be a wet one. I cant say I will be that upset if we get rained out.

Right now its thunder and lightning, the field is tarped so if it doesnt move into the city I bet your right it will be played out, maybe a delay but I forgot its an 8pm game.
Well either way you guys won the series, but are still back for now
WELP, the pitching matchup has proven correct in every way. THAT is why it was so important for the Yanks to take the first two .... not that that makes it any easier to take a whuppin .....
Im not sure if I am happy or still freakin steamed- losing any series to the Yanks leaves an awful taste in my mouth but at least we didnt completely embaress ourselves and get broomsticked. Manny is really making it difficult for me to continue to love him being Manny- I mean he states he wouldnt mind being traded? What? Your one of our go to guys in the middle of a seriously important series AND Al East division race and your saying you wouldnt mind being traded? So if we dont let you go does that mean your going to contribute 75%? Lets come to a decision and either trade him or tell him your staying and if you want that 20 Mill then you play hard and put to rest this "I wouldnt mind being traded" Crap. Enough is enough- Im starting to regret earlier in this thread stating Manny is my all time #2 Sox player.
Nice bounce back win. For all the hype and BS, the Yankees only gained 1 game on us. Lots of baseball to be played still. I think Lester is quickly working his way up to the ace of the staff. He seems to be the most consistent this year. Even with DiceK having only 1 loss, it's still nerveracking with all those walks. I think I am with you Paul on the Manny situation. It's over. Yeah he had a great game yesterday, but all the crap he's put the fans and his teammates through might not be worth it. I certainly can see better options for spending 20 million a year for the next 2 years. Personally I'd like to see Matt Holiday in Boston. We'll see what happens.
A good win last night for sure. We actually looked like a WS Champion team. Ponson won't be long for the Yankees with that performance.
The Manny thing is a huge thorn to deal with...I was a bit surprised with his attitude of trade me, blah, blah. Red Sox are kinda stuck with him for the rest of the season, unless he just mails it in from here on out. How the hell can you be pissed making OVAH $123k per game...PER GAME!!! How'd I get that? Simple, divide $20,000,000.00 by 162. And the killer is he was often times the DH and only had to walk to the plate and swing the bat, not stand out there and play. Seriously doubt the MANRAM can get $100m for 4 seasons elsewhere. Geez Manny, we could have used one of those doubles last Friday night!!!
Red Sox will probably not trade him to an American League team so we don't have to watch him kill us later. Could be the Phillies or Mets, we'll see. He has to go, along with Timlin and Hansen.
LAA tonight, let's get some revenge for the broom in LA.
The way I see it is the Red Sox keep him in order to win it all this year. Manny probably plays great the rest of the season to help his market value going into the offseason. (Some say he will tank the rest of the season, but that doesn't financially help him). The Sox offer to pick up his contract, Manny opts out, and waits for another team to give him a better offer. The Red Sox can still sign him for 20 million, but if another team outbids the Sox, then the Sox lose Manny for nothing.
Trading him does not make sense, and it probably can't happen due to the fact that no team wants a rental player who they may not be able sign anyway.
So basically, the Sox will keep Manny and then just see if someone outbids them in the off season.
Nobody else wants Manny. Manny is in the only place that can 1. afford him and 2. is willing to put up with his shenanigans. I am reminded of the time when the Sox placed him on waivers and no one claimed him. I think if Manny was honest and upfront right now, he'd admit that he doesn't want to go anywhere either. I think all this drama is coming from someone with hurt feelings. He just wants ownership to show him the love/show him the money.
I'm as sick of this as the rest of you are, but I thought it looked like he was trying harder in the game last night than he had been trying for quite some time. I think it might finally be sinking in that if he wants the contract or even if he wants to be traded, he needs to show the Red Sox and the rest of the world that he can still hit like Manny Ramirez so that they can overlook and forgive him for being Manny Ramirez.

The key for the Angels is to knock'em out now, keeping them out of the play-offs. The Red Sox's are not the same team this year. Angels are heathy and there young staff and infield is only going to get better.
I agree, the Angels are like a whole team of Arod's in October, but I would rather not see the Sox face them in their current state.
I didn't realize Lowell was slumping that badly, though it does look like he hasn't had a decent AB in weeks. Ellsbury striking out last night with the bases loaded was the key moment in the game - even Varitek managed to get on base ahead of him. Francona had better start thinking about using Casey as a PH in those situations (even PH for Tek when necessary). Casey is a solid hitter who will at least give you a quality AB.
I wonder if the Sox will add anyone before the deadline? Juan Uribe's name keeps coming up - but if they are going to pay yet another SS, I would rather see Miguel Tejada come here. Unlikely, but you never know. The guy I really want to see in a Sox uniform is Matt Holliday. That could happen, if not now then next season - and he would be a nice replacement for Manny.
Count me in for wanting Matt Holiday in a Sox uniform! Even if it means Manny getting shipped, forget about Uribe the last thing we need is another average SS.
I think Lowrie is as good as any other SS available so we might as well stick with him and Cora for now.
I'd love to see Holliday come play LF for the Sox. I think every other team would love to see him in their uniform too though. The asking price won't be cheap.
<< <i>I think Lowrie is as good as any other SS available so we might as well stick with him and Cora for now.

Exactly, I would have no problem with the Sox inking him to a long term deal though- figure in the 20 Mill we wouldnt be giving Manny and the upside to Holliday, I think he is 28 or 29 so this guy will be good for a long time.
That's exactly what I was thinking - and now, with Texiera off the table (I thought there was a slim chance we would get him in the offseason if he wasn't traded) he really is about the only Manny substitute we are going to find. And, in a lot of ways, Holliday could be even better than Manny in the Sox lineup.
I thought you couldn't be any dumber then you have already proved to be ..... but now you have a SIGNATURE that only a ignorant fool could create. Somehow through your infinite wisdom have concocted a IDIOTIC comparison between Don Mattingly and A-Rod using the equally IDIOTIC comparison of numbers of rings won.
Does it dawn on your foolish and uniformed ( no doubt under the age of 14 you are) self that guys like Don Mattingly and A-Rod have just as many rings as EVERY ONE of the Boston Red Sox greats that have their numbers retired? That number would be ZERO such as Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Joe Cronin, Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk.
NONE OF THEM HAVE RINGS. NOt even Jim Rice, Wade Boggs (oops Yankee ring), Roger Clemens (opps Yankee ring)
All GREAT players no doubt. Do US ALL a favor and go and post in a bush league board where you belong where nobody knows any better. You CAN NOT get away with being a DUMB A** here.
That does it. I'm officially done with Manny Ramirez. The team is getting embarrassed and he's not willing to run full speed on a shot down the 3rd base line? What a worthless piece of dung.
I thought you couldn't be any dumber then I am. And you're not. I am just a dumb a** yankee fan. Home of the team that had the greatest collapse in baseball history at the hands of the mighty Red Sox. That's right. We're in the record books as being the biggest chokers of all time. Now, I will spare you of any more stupid things that come out of my mouth, and go revisit my woodshed. Sincerely, A Yankee Dumba**
Now you're talking Noparade. You've finally wised up. Good little boy. Now, go have your mommy tuck you into bed with some nice warm milk and cookies. Good-night
I know that in the Yankee thread I would be helping to put a stop to IDIOTS like this clown. And Yankee fans are called out for being IDIOTS!Whatever, write whatever LUNATIC and demented crap that your hollow head enjoys. None of it has any merit .... so in the vein of your MORONIC thought process..... Ted Williams was no better then Don Mattingly or A-Rod.
As miserable as I have been about our team I will take a step back and think about last year when we went through these "periode's" of not being able to score runs, we weathered it last year and everything worked out fine. The Yankees were behind 14 games at one point? While I see no reason to not keep the faith, we are in a serious need of getting HOT.
sorry sox fans bad game for you; good game for the fantasy squad; CG for lackey AND a HR for Youk!
1. Sit Manny 2. Trade for a quality bat 3. Trade for some quality relief. 4. Pray tampa doesnt wake up and realize just how amazing their season is 5. Pray the Yankees dont make another move.

<< <i>edmund,
I thought you couldn't be any dumber then I am.
Sincerely, A Yankee Dumba**

bad game for you; good game for the fantasy squad; CG for lackey AND a HR for Youk!
1. Sit Manny
2. Trade for a quality bat
3. Trade for some quality relief.
4. Pray tampa doesnt wake up and realize just how amazing their season is
5. Pray the Yankees dont make another move.
