The Rays are coming back to earth. A solid team with no experience. I expect they fall behind and the Yankees and Sox duke it out as usual the past many years. Who knows .... they have solid pitching ..... but ...... come on man .... it has taken a GREAT year thus far from the upstart Rays combined with Yankee and Sox injury woes to varrying degrees to be where we are.
I lay my money on the Yankees and Red Sox down the stretch ....

Hey, what do you know, Chokajima didn't let anyone score tonight and we managed to go from a starter to a reliever to our closer without blowing things up. That's an improvement, even if it was against a minor league team.

I would love to see Dice win 20 games! If he can avoid those games where he walks a bunch of guys or avoids that 1 troubled inning the sky is the limit for him. Expensive but phenominal signing by the Sox brass!
Too bad the M's didn't stretch you guys to 18 innings. That would have been nice. Still, glad you had to stretch out the pen

I don't really think it'll be a big deal because we don't have a game tomorrow anyway so the bullpen arms should more or less be fresh on Friday if we need to turn to the pen against whichever team we are playing on Friday.
We avoided a couple of disastrous scenarios tonight- Papelbon got himself out of an ugly jam but was fortunate enough to face Johjima who cannot hit this year. Forget about HAAAnson, 9 out of 10 times he loses the battle he was in!

I wouldn't call this a GREAT year by the Rays at all considering what I think we're capable of. Crawford's having the worst year of his career, Upton's power is half of what it should be, Bartlett is hurt, and Pena has been hurt and is hitting .230. Yes, Longoria and Navarro have stepped up but their accomplishments don't outweigh the other's downfalls in any way.
While I made some posts in the beginning of the year stating that we would be competitive and shock a lot of people (which were laughed at by softparade), I could've never expected the season we have had. Even if this whole thing eventually comes crashing down (which it looks like it may) I won't cop an attitude on the Rays. The guys have surprised everyone, including themselves and it's been fun while it's lasted. Plus, this year is just a warm up for the next 5.
We've got a lot to learn in this thing but considering the fact that we are still finding ways to win, even without the offense, I can't wait to see what happens when the offense begins to click. But then again, the pitching will probably go down the tubes at that same time Oh man, gotta love baseball.
I laughed and so did a billion others. I will give you that.
THIS IS THE GREATEST YEAR THE RAYS HAVE HAD BY FAR...... your own personal expectations should not be factored in to whether YOU think their year has been "great". Regardless of the potential you think they have, this has been the greatest year to date by a Rays team in their history.
I still lay my money on the Sox and Yankees down the stretch. Too much experience at play and both are getting healthy for the most part.
As far as the next five years! You have a point there....They better win quick becuase those guys will be bolting for real money in due time.

Good point about my expectations vs. everyone else's. We're actually starting to spend a little more dough though, and that should only increase over time. I know Kaz is around for 4 more, Longoria for 6 and Shields for 4....Upton needs to be next and then Crawford, as far as resignings go.

I like it! But please Dan, you are really hogging all the bandwith with that sig - its slowing my computer down.
The Red SOx are a mere flash in the pan unless they win the next two Series and then ALMOST equal the four out of five in five years the Yanks won. But of course, most Sox fans family jewels are as big as Papi's fat head after getting a minor taste of success (when compared with NY)

Sorry pal, this Yankee team doesn't have 19 rings. So while the Yankee history has seen its share of winners, this current Yankee team is still a bunch of girls outside of Jeter, Po, and Mo. We discuss the current baseball season in this thread, and the fact is that the Red Sox have more rings on their fingers then the skirt wearers from New York. If you respect the title of this thread, it states "The Official 2008 RED SOX Championship run thread!!" This is not the "1999 and earlier NY Yankee thread".
The fact of the matter is that the "2008 RED SOX" have more rings then the 2008 girls from New York.
If you want to create your own "The Yankees who have been buried with their rings" thread, then please start it. If not, then deal with the fact that Mr. Choketober and Hank will be going nowhere once again this year.

We are discussing the 2008 RED SOX and all the competition they have to beat to win a ring...........................

If you do not like the thread title, then please start your own thread.................................................................
FACT........The current RED SOX team has more players with rings then the girls from the Bronx. SOLUTION....Learn to live with it.

Thats a load of crap. Since the day these threads started in earnest a few years ago everything and anything is has and always will be debated. If I want to wack you over the head with 19 more rings then you can, then I will. If I want to talk about all of the good dead people of New England who were planted without ever seeing a ring I will. IF I want to talk about a majority of Sox fans who can't handle prosperity I will.
There are four current New Yankees that have four World Series rings. It has taken only 8 years for clowns like yourself to render that kind of accomplishment as ancient and irrelevant. You are blind as a bat. The day all of your precious Sox hereos get knocked and torn down because those rings have the balls to be a few years older then the most recent champ is the day clowns like yourself see the light and scream bloody murder .....
edmund in 7 or eight years ........ "HOW DARE does anybody try and take away my precious Red Sox accomplishments? I remember those days man! That was fun! Now I have ignorant ones like I used to be arguing that those years don't matter ... forever! "
With this type of moronic and flat out idiotic thought process ..... what is the sense of rooting for a team if clowns like the sunken ship edmundfitzgerald hop along one sunny day and claim that YOU CAN NOT ENJOY THOSE YEARS ANYMORE.
My, oh my. Aren't we just a little testy that our team continues to outspend and underperform. That's ok. You have a nice, cozy shed to live in now. Enjoy it. Lots of wood to keep you warm during those long winter nights. You can drink hot cocoa and think of the 1920's and 30's. It will help you with your frustration and anxiety and will help you to feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Now, back to our original thread, "THE OFFICIAL 2008 RED SOX Championship run thread". Last time I checked the standings, the clowns from New York were still behind our revered Red Sox. But that's ok. Let's open a bottle of scotch and think about the 1952 Yankees. You know, Yogi Bear, Phil "Let's cry about not being in the Hall" Rizzuto, and the rest of those guys who we never saw play.

<< <i>Ok, now I am happier. All TWENTY SIX glorious years in my sig. Not to mention the 13 Series the Yanks lost. Geeeeez 39 World Series appearances since 1923. That is just about once every 2 years!
Is it OK that I did this guys? What do you think Jerry >>
I like it! But please Dan, you are really hogging all the bandwith with that sig - its slowing my computer down.
<< <i> Can you guys be any more infatuated with him since he told Boston to STICK IT!

Red Sox fans are infatuated with losers. That's why we are infatuated with Mr. Viagra (aka..unable to perform when it counts).
Only a few guys on this Yankees team have rings, the rest including Mr. Choketober are losers. NO RINGS. NO RINGS. NO RINGS.
So the majority of this Yankee team is a bunch of girls until they win the big one.
Sincerely,
Deal with it
But of course, most Sox fans family jewels are as big as Papi's fat head after getting a minor taste of success (when compared with NY)

Sorry pal, this Yankee team doesn't have 19 rings. So while the Yankee history has seen its share of winners, this current
Yankee team is still a bunch of girls outside of Jeter, Po, and Mo. We discuss the current baseball season in this thread, and
the fact is that the Red Sox have more rings on their fingers then the skirt wearers from New York. If you respect the title of
this thread, it states "The Official 2008 RED SOX Championship run thread!!" This is not the "1999 and earlier NY Yankee thread".
Sincerely,
The House that Alex Built

Unfortunately this is what happens with fans who have never experienced winning. They don't know how to handle it. With this ridiculous logic, all we have to do is wait until the Sox have just a few left from its last championship ..... and the BAM you can't talk about it anymore

Let me go a little slower for our friends from the Bronx who are a little slow in the head...................................
This is the "2008 RED SOX Championship run" thread.........................................................................................
We are discussing the 2008 RED SOX and all the competition they have to beat to win a ring...........................
We ARE NOT discussing what happened in Yankee stadium in 1936 or 1954......................................................
If you do not like the thread title, then please start your own thread.................................................................
FACT........The current RED SOX team has more players with rings then the girls from the Bronx.
SOLUTION....Learn to live with it.
Sincerely,
"The 2008 RED SOX Championship run thread"
Thats a load of crap. Since the day these threads started in earnest a few years ago everything and anything is has and always will be debated.
If I want to wack you over the head with 19 more rings then you can, then I will. If I want to talk about all of the good dead people of New England who were planted without ever seeing a ring I will. IF I want to talk about a majority of Sox fans who can't handle prosperity I will.

Aren't we just a little testy that our team continues to outspend and underperform.
That's ok. You have a nice, cozy shed to live in now. Enjoy it. Lots of wood to keep you warm
during those long winter nights.
You know, Yogi Bear, Phil "Let's cry
about not being in the Hall" Rizzuto, and the rest of those guys who we never saw play.
