  • Sounds like a rip-joint to me anyway, no big loss if you didn't go back there. Sounds like they are looking for a big money customer to come in(somebody also clueless of course) so they can swoop down and make a fast buck off of... Sorry for your experience, that's why I basically quit coins and went back to my other hobbies. Don't give up if you love coins though, there are some nice people out there, you just have to find them. image

i am not sure if your diatribe was directed at me. I was simply stating that calling anyone for there side of the story is not harrasment, calling them and swearing or whatever was being discussed here is. And i certaintly did not accuse you of doing that. Hell i didn't even realise you had even called.

I don't have time to read all of this, but it's apparent that not a great deal has changed in the forty years since I was a YN. Most dealers didn't want to be bothered with me. Now that I am middle-class and have a bald spot on the back of my head, I rarely encounter a dealer who is rude.

I think the OP acted immaturely and it sounds like the dealer es un naco. . Do what I did; find several B & Ms where the dealer likes YNs. I found one or two of them, surely you could do the same. At that time, the expensive coins I bought were typically at auctions. You have the advantage of finding coins at shows. You can also find coins on the internet, though personally, I generally do not consider this to be an advantage, but that's another topic.

Lastly, to reiterate another post, given all of my hobbies, as a group, coin people are by far the strangest of the lot.

well I waded thru all the pages - Most of which is not informative, but only shows a bunch of different personalities and opinions. After all this, it appears we still don't have the other side of story, but for some reason I tend to believe the kid. Sure there may be more to the story, but it can't be all that bad, or he would not have posted this thread.

One thing for sure is that this dealer's rep is somewhat tarnished by now.

Nobody has mentioned if they sent him a link to this thread, so either nobody did - or the dealer is lurking.

Either/or - It is up to his parents - not internet peeps to clean up after the kid - however, interesting it may be.

Okay, I only read the first half of this thread. But here's what I'm getting: a self-described young person returns to a store that has, he reports, ripped him in the past with cleaned and/or overpriced coins. Any possibility he was looking for a fight?... or maybe to resume one?

He was treated rudely, reportedly, by one person in the store. For that he goes to two sites on the 'net and bashes the company to no end (cleaned coins, price gouging, mean grown-ups at the counter). At a minimum, this clearly vengeful kid's level of anger is somewhere in the same neighborhood as the rude dealer's help.

Sure, it's very frustrating to be mistreated because of being young, but the price coinkid is exacting is well in excess of what was incurred by rude treatment on a single visit. When you're an adult running your own business, coinkid, you'll probably come to grasp the frustration of character assassination by net posting.

As is usual on this board, most of us tend to side with the first person to come to the table with his side of the story, especially when it's a dealer that is accused. (Of course there's the embarrassing possibility that this inplausible exchange was fabricated by someone with time on his hands and a "Chip" on his shoulder.) I guess it fills the time to be all self-righteous (yes, including me) when there's nothing else to talk about.

I just spent the better part of 45 minutes reading this whole thread times the number of posters ... with the man hours wasted on here because somebody got their nose out of joint because they were snubbed in a retail store we could have done something constructive like find a cure for milkspots or found some new tires for bongo bongos 82 lincoln....

Trying to run someone out of business with prank phone calls because YOU were treated rudely is pretty immature.

  • Even if you got the other side of the story, who would you believe? From what I have read, coinkid and morganhunter both claim to have had bad experiences with this dealer. You can take it for what it's worth or not. That's all there is to it. When I go looking for a hotel online for a vacation, I tend to look at the reviews. This is pretty much the same type of situation. Do you take their "reviews" into account or not? That is up to you. So, if you happen to deal with this person and he's a jerk, don't say you weren't warned. Hopefully your experience ends up better than these two did.

Especially since the kid is prohibited from buying at the dealer because of his repeated rude behavior.
  • darktonedarktone Posts: 8,437 ✭✭✭
I think some people spend too much time on this forum. The kid said he had a bad experience and I feel bad for him- he has a right to be upset. If Morganhunter had a bad experience as well I would tend to believe the kid. Why turn this around and make the kid out to be the bad guy? I mean there is no evidence he is lying? Unless some new facts come out there is no reason to give him a hard time. The nuts that are calling this dealer to harass him should be banned from this forum.

I sure none of us had a bad transaction with a B&M shop, get real folks! You must not have collected all the over graded slider in the 80's that had claims of MS65. I've been to quite a few shops in over half the states a few decades ago and I can tell you there's not many I trust, knowledge is king and the TPG's have helped but many shops still want to sell raw at inflated prices just like the good old days.

it has come to my attention from a pm that another forum member knows more info about this story- why not post it here instead of keeping it to pm's?
