Its great you guys feel "uber" confidence at this point as I would too probably BUT, I know as well as any seasoned fan, things happen quickly in this game, and there are the better part of FIVE months to go.
Things are really coming together with only a hiccup here and there. DeSalvo pitched very well in his second start. Now if we can only get that bullpen straightened out! Starters have been going deeper so hopefully it will get better for them soon too.
Well, Dan....I guess my M's played pretty well against your Yankees.
Good pitching will stop good hitting any time. Actually, I think the strongest part of the Mariners this year is their bullpen. JJ Putz is a 'save' machine. He has nasty stuff. The set up men are not too shabby either.

Yes, while it is a change to be at least already thinking about a wild card spot it is what it is. I still think the Yanks will turn the corner when our rotation adds Clemens and Hughes. So, if they can somehowplay very good the rest of the way and are in contention for a wild card I will be happy. Lets not forget that the Sox can win 145 games for all I care. Fact is they will have zero wins when the playoffs start

Hmmmmm you mean the Sox fans are allowed to remember great years? errr YEAR. Sorry about that Thas interesting, since almost every Yankee hating nutball refuses to allow Yankee fans to reflect.
So, in the spirit of Jerry's post ..... the worse things get this season I just think about great years I witnessed such as 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000.
sigh .... it just gets worse and worse. The way things are going the only thng to root for come September is for the Red SOx to win 120 games and get booted in the first round.
yesterday on the 1050 (espn) radio some guy was going over the 2 teams and was down on Chavez. Claiming he sucks bla bla bla and how matsui is better bla bla bla.
chavez throws out damon and hits the game winning hr.
gotta love it.
oh btw I do think matsui is the better ball player overall but............
chavez can flat out play and is much younger.
I'll take chavez thankyou.
who are the yankees starting in game 3? some aa guy?
One thing i do like about the Yanks is how they are giving all those young guys shots. That Matt DiSalvo is a keeper. Im rooting for him!
Anyone think Torre will get the ax if the Mets complete the sweep tomorrow night? I know the George of old (70s-80s) would have done it by now already, so not sure it will happen, but you never know.

I will sit tight and root this team on no matter how fruitless it may or may not be. If nothing else I can't wait to see Phil Hughes pitch the rest of the season as he is the future of this rotation. Who knows what will happen to Torre and company.
One of the reasons Clemens was supposedly coming back (cough cough $ $) was for the "opportunity" to play for Joe Torre again. We shall see. I am sure if Torre is fired Roger would still play for $19 Million. Maybe there is a clause in his contract that states "I don't have to show up at the stadium on off days and I must play for Mr. Torre" LOL
"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
Tonight is Ty Clippard. This is the guy who will be the Yanks #1 or #2 starter in 2-3 years. He is 21 years old, 6-4 and 170 lbs. He has an 88-92 mph fastball which sometimes reaches up to 94 but not that often. As he matures, he will bulk up and be throwing harder in a couple of years. A VERY impressive curveball and has a very decent slider and changeup that he can throw for strikes. He has good control.
Who knows how he will be today in his major league debut but he is one of the brightest Yankees minor league pitchers in the system. He has very good AAA numbers and did a good job during the Yankees spring training.
He has shown pretty good control and already having a decent changeup is going to help him on his path to that Yankees rotation.
The Yankee Clippard. Did you catch him? The kid is only 22 years old and made the Mets bats look silly. The kid got a double too.

Ty pitched a whale of a game, no doubt, and looks better than most of the other young pitchers they've auditioned this year, but I'll take 2 out of 3 every time. Great Series!

Yup, he is 22...thought he was 21 but close enough
The second inning was a bit rough but he worked his way out of it. He looked REAL good throwing. His delivery reminds me a bit of Jim Palmer (Don't be jumping on that CTSox, I didnt say he was the next Jim Palmer! ) kind of like Hughes delivery is similar to Clemens.
Not sure if Clippard is quite ready for the big show but he showed a lot of poise out there!
Can you imagine...7 rookie starters already this season. Incredible. They've done ok though.
Now, where is everyone that says that the Yanks minor league system has no talent???? Oh yeah...that was soooo long ago...last year I think
Watch for Hughes, Clippard, and Wang being the Yanks top three in the rotation in a couple of years! Rasner has his on and off days...but his ERA is decent. Unfortunately Yanks have lost him for 12-15 weeks. Same with Karstens. And of course a couple of promising guys like DeSalvo, Chase Wright, and Humberto Sanchez are there too. That is if Sanchez comes back from elbow surgery ok.
Give the kid a break. He doesn't make millions yet and will get those teeth whitened. Also it looks like he doesn't shave and still needs Clearisol.

Talk to me when Papelboner has thrown in 80 games vs us (like Mo vs you), we'll see who he intimidates then. Since we probably won't see him in this upcoming series, here's a picture of your boy (since you Red Sox fans love checking the Yankee Fans thread) to hold you over...
All kidding aside, Papelbons little ..... and I mean little puckered up lips are about as far from manly as one could get. It looks like something long and wide is being slowly slipped up his backside when he looks in to the catcher. Its impossible to look at for more then a second without laughing
Little John Puckerface would need to be the Sox closer until 2018 at the MINIMUM to even be able to ride shotgun with Mo. Does he go that long and win 4 World Series? Not likely
Especially when your lame, old, broken down closer intimidates no one anymore. >>
Interesting Jerry. Talk to us when the "funny" looking Papelpucker wins 4 World Series and is pitching for the Sox for 12 years. It won't happen, not the World Series, not the longevity. Forget it. They already baby the fragile KID becuase he can't handle a real work load. Look for Paplebon to be GONE or highly ineffective in less then 5 years. He is not of the pedigree of Rivera. It is amusing to see you rip Rivera now at the end of his career.
Gee, when big fat Papi is old and broken down will you be ripping him too?
Dan I do agree that he looks odd with that stare down of his but he can look anyway he wants closing out games, Im sure you would be ok with him as your closer now.
We do love Rivera though and only time will tell how long/effective he will be, it is foolish for any of us to compare him to Mo at this point. By the way PAPI can join our club of fat 40 year old guys anytime!
I hear ya. Obviously Papelbons puckered and laughable stare down has nothing to do with his great results at this point. I am just doing the right thing and standing up for Mariano Rivera who is one of the greatest closers of all time. If it is fair game for a Sox fan to actually rip the guy as "lame" now, after the career he has had then it is more then fair to rip a puckered funny faced looking closer who is not a pimple on the a$$ of Rivera as far as careers go.

Looks like the Yanks are dispelling the myth of not developing young players. A solid farm system will get you there every time.
If they don't lose more ground before the All Star break and get everyone healthy again the second half of the season will be very interesting.
