Cheeks, by no meens am I looking to argue with you or anyone else, and I am not picking sides ( Dan and other Yank fans can fight there own battles ) No doubt back in the fifties New York and the Yankees were the center of the baseball, although I was not around it was/is my favorite era, (Im prolly the only Sox fan that collects primarily '50's New York players) Im just reffering to statements you made about the Yankees NOW being America's team. In my world the SOX are my team and quite a few others around the country as is the Yankee's are to fans around the country.
Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Gehrig, Dimmagio, Musial, Mays, Williams, Ect.. Ect.. Ect.. are all the greatest bigger than life heroes to many different people.
Softparade, your right it is all in fun, appreciate your reply, when you get old like me you get get a little thin skinned. The reason I posted to perkdog is an item I forgot to even mention. When I had Lunch with Mantle those many years ago I asked him who he thought was the greatest player was and he responded, "Thats easy, Ted Williams" interesting!! Anyway you do have a fine thread going, just have to put up with a few old farts like me.
<< <i>How about a round for Travis Buck last night paplebon with a 34 pitch inning. I'll take that! >>

I know, but my GOD ..... its always a huge sigh of relief with you Sox fans when the guy gets a night off. We are barely out of April and its "Oh goody! Paplebon gets to rest tonight" !!!!
That would be SIX Paul. You don't gain a full game when the other team does not play ...... I am sure you know that. Again, HOW SWEET it will be if and when these tables are turned. I will be quoting every one of these quotes from the early season
<< <i>"Cheeks" - you are an idiot. But, even as I say that, I hope you stick around and post some more, because I am sure you will give me plenty of good material to comment on.
In the meantime, since you love to read, why not pick up the new book by Peter Golenbock about Mickey Mantle? If you are over 18, that is. >>
Cheeks - I probably shouldn't have used the word "idiot" - for that, I apologize. But it seemed like you came in starting trouble with Yankee friends of mine here, and only I get to do that.
But I was serious about that Mantle book - it looks like a great read. I plan to pick it up myself.
It looks like the yankees are finally reaping what they've been sowing for years: focusing entirely on the lineup instead of where championships are won - the pitching.
I have to say, it couldn't happen to a more deserving team.

If Jeter stays healthy he is going to SHATTER 3,000 hits and again, if he stays healthy he has a great chance for 3,500 plus.
Brian, Hernandez hurt is elbow ala Francisco Liriano. The M's keep pushing his comeback back but I don't know how smart that will be to bring him back so soon? Look at what happened to Liriano.
It would be foolish for the M's to rush him back. The kid is their future and worth his weight in gold.
On a similar note I hope the Yankees take their sweet 'ol time bringing Hughes back. There is no reason to mortage his health and future until he is absolutely 100% healthy.

Before this year, three teams used nine starters in the first 30 games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau: the 1911 St. Louis Browns, 1946 New York Giants and 1955 Baltimore Orioles.
This year's Yankees have already tied that mark, with Andy Pettitte (six starts); Kei Igawa (four); Mike Mussina and Rasner (three apiece); and Phil Hughes, Jeff Karstens, Carl Pavano, Chien-Ming Wang and Chase Wright (two each).
It was great to see the Yanks take that double header! Scary moment for Sosa. I havent looked at where some of the new kids on the block are coming from but Kudos to Yanks scouts and Brian Cashman for finding some young guys they can give a shot to. Not that they are stellar but can hopefully give the Yanks a chance to hang in there while we have some pitchers who are down. And why dont the Yanks just cut the cord with Pavano? Blah.
I agree. A healthy Pettitte, Mussina, and Wang will help.

Todays game....interesting. Ok, so Phelps did go out of his way to take out Jojima. Washburn hits Phelps with the pitch in his next at bat and both benches warned. Ok, thats all good and probably deserved by Phelps. Now, let me say ONCE AGAIN that Michael Kay is a complete idiot saying that Proctor was wrong for hitting Betancourt with a pitch. The only stupid thing about it is that Torre is also ejected from the game. I say GOOD FOR PROCTOR!!! Light a fire under this teams a$$!!! It's just part of the game.

Despite the huge downer of the Hughes injury it was nice to see the Yanks pitching come around against a solid hitting team like the Rangers.
Hopefully they wont be too worn out from the double header when they return home against the M's tomorrow.
Does anyone know the pitching matchups for the upcoming series offhand ?

The matchups look favorable for the Yanks, especially if Igawa throws like he did last time out.
I didnt even know Felix Hernandez was hurt, what happened to him ?
