The Yanks Mid June and on rotation looks set up now. Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Clemens, and Philip Hughes as the 5th starter. Plus, the Yanks are now playing well having swept Texas and took 2 out of 3 from Seattle. I have saying for WEEKS to the bridge jumpers that basing a season on a handful of April games is NONSENSE. Lets get it On!
Wonder what Jdurg thinks about all these latest developments...

Anyone know anything about this Desalvo kid pitching tonight? His numbers look pretty good and I've read he impressed Torre in Spring Training. The pen has gotten some use the last couple of days so it would be great to get some innings out of him...
With all of the fallout that was expected with the Clemens deal it is funny to read some of the comments. Anyway, come October we all know that Roger is not going to be leading the way to the mound. BUT he will certainly help stabalize our rotation and make it pretty damn deep. I hope everybody keeps harping on the Clemens saga because it is Phil Hughes that has the biggest upside on doing any late season damage. Its alot more fun when they don't see it coming
Only because he signed with the Yankees are you seeing this type of bashing. Could you imagine how "heroic" it would have been to Boston fans if he would have signed with the Red Sox?! It would have been like the second coming of Christ.
Funny how quickly some facts are forgotten...last one I saw was about Yanks offering 10 million more for Clemens than the Red Sox. I have a couple curiosities about that one! Is he getting 10 million more because he will have 2 months more of pitching with the Yanks? If so, looks like the money was essentially the same! Good spin, eh? Next, with that comment...do they forget they outbid every other team in baseball by over 20 million just to negotiate with DMat? All I can say is.....WOW. I think there are a LOT of sour grapes with DMat's ERA at 5.45 and his WHIP over 1.32!!! And to even say that Wakefield is more valuable...now cmon!
Im not going to sit here and say that Clemens is going to be the ace of the Yankees staff. We know he isnt. People talk alot about Clemens only going 6 or so innings while with the Astros. Lets not forget NL strategy needs to be considered. Astros didnt score a lot of runs and pinch hitters often prevail over the starting pitchers and let the middle relief come in. If he had pitched like that on an AL team he never would have been pulled as early as he was with the Astros.
I hope there is enough crow to go around for all the doubters.
It's going to take more than Clemens for the Yanks to go all the way...its going to take the whole team. Clemens isnt the make or break but he certainly will help the "make" a whole lot easier.
There is a lot of season left to go...this could be the most fun season in years for Yankees fans!
Man, the Yankees got BONED on a horrible call against the Mariners tonight. Cano tagged that guy out by a MILE!! Not only was that about the worst call of the year, but why . . .
1. Did the home plate umpire not intervene to get the call right? He had to have seen it, unless he was looking at his shoes. Frankly, I do not even know if anything could be done to overule or change the call, but I do recall seeing umps confer to get outfield calls right. 2. Why didn't Cano argue the call? I would think most players would go ballistic! 3. Why did Mattingly stay in the dugout? Did he forget his was manager that night?
Too bad for DeSalvo as well -- a great first ML appearance.
Agree that it was a win squandered. Especially for DeSalvo on his MLB debut. I was wondering the same thing about Mattingly...where was he??? I can understand that Cano may have been out of position to see where the bag was and that his tag made it by a huge margin.
There is soooooo much material you Sox guys have given us to fall back on if and when the Yanks overtake the Sox I can't believe veteran guys like yourselves would be this giddy 3 weeks before Memorial Day.
Yes big blue really blew a call last night but these things even themselves out over 162. I am not going to cry foul now and them keep my mouth shut when the call goes the Yankee way.
DeSalvo pitched a great game though ..... he has a devestating changeup and made even Ichiro look silly with it
What I find humorous is New York fans..Veteran fans and all are actually exited about taking a HUGE step in the right direction...Second place in the division? Sure you got second place allright, 1/2 a game above Tampa...1 game ahead of the Orioles...and last but not least a swelt 1.5 games in front of the Jays, I guess you have to creep before you crawl....
Paul, there is no sense in looking at standings until the earliest Memorial Day. That would be the first furlong so to speak. It amazes me how you Sox fans scoreboard watch right out of the gate!

Its an endless cycle between Sox/Yankee fans. The reason '04 is brought up is because we have to listen to endless banter about when Yankee championships happened. You know, which came first? The chicken or the egg?
Moose looked very good again. Our pitching is straightening itself out and we are now 7-2 in May after the dismal April. Clemens and Hughes on the way. All we have to do is keep the Sox at arms length until the All Star break and then the FUN REALLY BEGINS

Dan and company, that went right over your head. My point had nothing to do with beating the Rangers it had EVERYTHING to do with you guys celebrating .500 ball, believe me I am shocked about it and Im sure a few of you are suprised that you are at .500 ball as well, everyone thought your record would be much better at this point, that is all.
I dont think anyone is celebrating .500 ball...what we are happy with is that they are working out of this slump and its the first step towards 1st place in the AL East!

Well just dont get too excited, it most likely will not happen.
Are Red Sox fans' necks getting sore from continually looking over their shoulder? hehe...How many lucky rabbit's feet have you bought? Are they digging up the dirt that Ruth's childhood home was built on now? Are they blowing up any baseballs? hehehehe

Now Perk, you can do a whole lot better than that!! I see a helluva lot more stroking in that Red Sox thread than here!
<< <i>
<< <i>Yankee fans celebrating a win... normal
Yankee fans celebrating a win against the hapless Rangers... Ok, normal
Yankee fans celebrating getting BACK TO .500?........ PRICELESS!!!!! >>
And like clockwork ..... over on the Sox thread it is a good win, and D-Mat is now looking better, and its a quality start, etc, etc, etc, bla bla bla when who are they playing? Oh, the 13-20 Blue Jays. BUT, thats ok .......
When the Yankees win it is always becuase the other team stinks.
Paul, you can do alot better >>
Dan and company, that went right over your head. My point had nothing to do with beating the Rangers it had EVERYTHING to do with you guys celebrating .500 ball, believe me I am shocked about it and Im sure a few of you are suprised that you are at .500 ball as well, everyone thought your record would be much better at this point, that is all.
<< <i>I dont think anyone is celebrating .500 ball...what we are happy with is that they are working out of this slump and its the first step towards 1st place in the AL East! >>
Well just dont get too excited, it most likely will not happen.
Are Red Sox fans' necks getting sore from continually looking over their shoulder? hehe...How many lucky rabbit's feet have you bought? Are they digging up the dirt that Ruth's childhood home was built on now? Are they blowing up any baseballs? hehehehe
Sorry, but Bosox luck is about to run out!
I don't know, I'd be worried if the staff "ace" had an ERA of 5.40.
Off to Seattle!
