<< <i>A "better shot at first" is a whole different statement from "put you guys back in first". I think most Yankee fans, and most fans in general thought he was going to improve the pitching staff, which I believe he has done. But I, nor anyone else, had illusions about him spearheading the Yanks into first place. He's NEVER been that kind of pitcher IMO. Not even in his best Red Sox days. Sure he had great stats, but he never performed well in the clutch. And he never has for the Yanks either. As for why the Yanks spent $28M, I didn't like it but I guess they felt like they want to improve the team with whatever was available even if that meant overpaying. >>
I'm curious about this idea that Clemens has NEVER performed well in the clutch. Is this just your feeling based on years of watching or are you thinking of specific games? A quick look at his career stats shows that in postseason play (which I consider clutch situations) he has gone 14-9 with a 3.66 ERA and 172 K's in 169 IP. In my opinion that would qualify as "performing well in the clutch." He's been even better in the World Series where his record is 3-0, 2.37, and 49 K in 49.333 innings.
I agree, Roger has pitched well in the clutch. His dominating game on the road vs Seattle in the 2001 ALCS and his pitching vs the Mets in the 2000 World Series was clutch as well.
he did it!!!!!! 500 way to go, he got over the hump, the rest is ckae now till 600 , at least he got his before football head beats hanks record, arod will take barry out anyways randy

Tonight Joba Chamberlain struck out 5 batters in 2 innings of work in AAA. It was his 3rd appearance out of the pen since the last game he started. I am in NO WAY saying this guy will be a bullpen savior down the stretch for the Yanks but its about &%!@#&! time he was called up to the Bronx. What else do the Yankees want to see from the flame thrower / great slider prospect? I bet he is with the Yanks within a few days
Good times at Yankee land again. My wife and daughter were at the big park in the Bronx today and saw A-Rod's historic 500th Home Run. Shelly Duncan signed a baseball for my daughter also. What a great day for them. I wish I was there!

Well Dan, yes. Im telling you they fear you guys and crap their pants when they face you. Its just a weird chemistry thing, like we ussually beat the D-Rays and O's but they give you guys trouble every now and then. I will say it again, the Royals just lay down for you guys. And I think at the end of August and mid September that the Bosox should be ready to do the same thing!
Well, maybe not tonight but I'll be ready to slam a few down in those two series. No other way to keep my anxiety down during those games. Maybe a hydrocodone with the beers will help hehehehe
Youre right Dan. All those fools who said that Cano didnt have the skills. You dont see them saying anything now! Have you ever seen anyone so calm at the plate regardless of the situation?
You're right...all those fools that said that Cano had the skills weren't saying anything when he was stinking up the joint. Have you ever seen anyone so quick to hop on a player's bandwagon?
Isnt that funny....a NY fan supports players on their team and they are "bandwagoners". That's Axhole's MO for half his arguements because he has not other way to discuss sports.
You are lucky the mods have given you another chance, Axhole. Never should have happened because now we going back to CRAP on these boards.
I am sure he is crying to the mods about me. I AM SURE. Let him ...... what a loser. This board is his LIFE obviously. Why else would somebody cry and cry and cry some more after being banned fourteen hundred times.
I DONT care if I get banned. DONT CARE. Not under these circumstances.
Of course, even with those two errors, he is too blind to take 5 minutes to look up to see that Cano is second in the league in fielding percentage in all the majors for second basemen. Spew? yes.
SNIFF SNIFF ..... Mr Mod ..... I am a big time loser as you all know BUT .... BUt .... SNIFF .... SNIFFF .... why do people call me out on things I have been so wrong about? SNIFF SNIFFF

I would like to file a complaint with the league office. I don't think it is fair that the Royals have to play two series' against the Yankees, who get to score in touchdowns and field goals now. Talk about miserable timing.
Yanks are looking great! Just wish the Bosox would slip up more! They are a team of overachievers this year. Of course we would be happy to get the Wild Card...but I want it ALLLLLLL!!!!!
Tonight on YES is the Bobby Murcer game. The first game after the death of Thurman Munson. Quite unfortunately this particular game is the most notorious game I have attended myself besides witnessing Mattingly's last homer at the stadium vs the M's in the playoffs. I wasjust barely 10 years old and sitting half way up in the upper deck right at 3rd base. I doubt I will see myself!
Tied for the Wild Card lead and if the Tigers lose, its ours hopefully until the end of the season unless we take 1st spot from the Bosox!!! Great win today...unfortunately I didnt realize today was an afternoon game and I missed it
And RIP Thurman Munson! That Murcer game was one of the most memorable Yankees games ever!
its funny how no one busted on the sox for going after gagne when they already had such a formidable closer. It must be nice to be able and go out and get whatever pieces you feel you need to help you compete.
Oh thats right, only the yankees take flack for doing everything you can to win, my bad
FINALLY the Yankees have called up Joba Chamberlain I hear. He will be in Toronto for tonights game. Again, and I have said this alot already. I am in no way hoping against hope that a 21 year old kid will be our bullpen savior BUT he can not do another thing in the minors. He has simply proven to be too good at every level of the minors.
Having cleared up a passport issue, stud pitching prospect Joba Chamberlain flew here yesterday and will be in the Yankees' bullpen tonight. The club planned to have the gas-throwing right-hander for yesterday's victory over the Blue Jays but the paperwork caused a delay.
Brian Bruney is expected to be sent to Scranton Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to make room for Chamberlain, who went from Tampa (Single- A) to Trenton (Double-A) to SWB this year and has been converted from a starter to a reliever.
"I think he is close," Joe Torre said of the 21-year-old right-hander who was the 41st pick in the 2006 draft out of Nebraska. He dominated the minor leagues to the point where he became untouchable in trade talks last month.

Anyway, Miss you Thurman Munson

Brian Bruney is expected to be sent to Scranton Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) to make room for Chamberlain, who went from Tampa (Single- A) to Trenton (Double-A) to SWB this year and has been converted from a starter to a reliever.
"I think he is close," Joe Torre said of the 21-year-old right-hander who was the 41st pick in the 2006 draft out of Nebraska. He dominated the minor leagues to the point where he became untouchable in trade talks last month.
