It wasn't a coincidence that every yankee fan here ran for the hills when their hot streak ended. soft gets a pass for being on vacation, but the other ones - nope. I've seen them posting here and haven't touched their precious yankee thread for weeks. >>

How long will this ID survive Axhole? Looks like you've been really pumping out your spew pretty quickly on this one...already 101 posts. Just dying to stay but I'm sure the mods are on to you and this one will bite the dust too!

39-42. 12 games back. Yankees are right where America likes to see them. I'd be fine with a repeat performance of that record in the second half..........they should start thinking about being sellers at the deadline.

Perhaps, but who would the buyers be? I don't see many teams beating a path to the yankees door to give them payroll relief, and I'd have to think Cashman, Torre, and Co. will refuse to throw away talent.
  • It seems like for the last 40 games or so the Red Sox have been playing .500 ball. They have been stuck at 18 or 19 games over .500 which seems like forever. The Yanks should have made their move when the lead went from 14 1/2 to 7 1/2 games in a mater of 2 weeks. The Yankees have been on a roll winning series from two very good teams and winning 5 out of 7 games. Unforunately for the Yankees and their fans the All-Star game break could stop their momentum. Cano and Matsui have been on fire lately. Unless the Red Sox start playing better than .500 ball I still think this could be 1978 all over again.

Ofcourse its possible, highly unlikely.... BUT possible.
  • Yanks need to win 48 of their final 77 games just to get to 90 wins (.629 winning percentage).
Red Sox can play one game under .500 for their final 75 games and still get to 90 wins.

I don't see how they can possible overcome a 10 game hole, not when the red sox are such a good team.

This is completely off-topic, but can someone explain to me why A-Rod was wearing a suit at the Home Run Derby when all the other players (pardon the pun) were wearing the American and National League jerseys?
  • stownstown Posts: 11,321 ✭✭✭
Because he's better than everyone else and can do whatever he wants.

Go to an illegal poker room? No problem.

Parade a topless dancer from club to club while his wife is sitting at home? No problem.

Be the only player on the field without a uniform on? No problem.

  • Pretty sure it was because he wasn't participating in the HR derby, and I don't even know how much he'll be playing in tonight's game. Pretty sure the suit was so that no one would think he was going to be in the HR derby.

stown, it's been discussed over and over, but that poker room wasn't illegal. If it was, why wasn't he arrested with the others there? Oh that's right, because it was indeed a legal room. Why do you insist on posting out-and-out lies on this forum?
  • TheVonTheVon Posts: 2,725
Stitzen, perhaps you didn't see all the other guys not participating in the HR Derby still wearing the uniforms? Even the player's kids were wearing uniforms. Besides that, it was already decided who was going to participate in the derby. It's not like MLB would sit there and beg A-Rod to jump in at the last minute.
  • So what you're saying is that Arod was the only player there not in uniform? Or were there others, but Arod's an easy mark, so let's call him out on it?

Just trying to clarify why anyone would care what Arod was wearing to the HR derby.

Maybe he needed the jacket to cover up the F-bomb he was wearing on his shirt.

NY Poker Club Raid Yields 13 Arrests
    By Dan Katz
    Published: Monday, October 17, 2005

    Email Print
Thirteen people face criminal charges, including promoting gambling, as the result of a police raid at a Manhattan poker club Friday night. Marijuana and $56,000 were also seized from the Broadway Club on West 25th Street.

The bust comes five months after authorities shutdown the two largest clubs in the city, the Players Club and Play Station, as part of a crackdown on illegal card rooms. There is a chance that the Broadway Club may have gone unnoticed if it weren’t for a complaint from a patron that someone had displayed a gun at the club.

The club, which saw poker pro, Phil Hellmuth, and New York Yankees star, Alex Rodriguez, visit in September was said by customers to be a fine establishment. It contained six poker tables, as well as glassed-off room for high-stakes or private games. Players were able to order food, although on some nights the club provided free food to its players. Plasma television screens were mounted on the walls and a cashier sat in an office, ready to sell chips to willing players. Smoking was allowed in a separate room, but alcohol was off-limits.

Officials said that playing poker for money is not strictly illegal in New York State, but taking profits from running the games most definitely is. The Broadway Club allegedly charged players by the half hour, anywhere from $3 to $8. Poker club owners have attempted to defend this practice by claiming that this charge was used only to recoup their costs of renting the space, but prosecutors still say that this is illegal.

The bust occurred at 11:00pm Friday night, after the owner admitted at least a dozen officers into the club. The officers assured the players that the employees were the only targets of the raid. Even so, the players were asked to place their hands on their heads, produce their driver’s licenses (presumably not in that order), and were asked questions about the club and other gambling locations. No players were taken into custody.

In a scene reminiscent of prohibition, officers with a sledgehammer and crowbars went into a back room, whereupon some banging was heard. After the noise stopped, one officer announced, “We got the piggy bank.”

"Playing at such clubs is not illegal, though it can be against the law to operate them, the Daily News reported."

Key word here 'can', not 'is'.

    Nice spin attempt.

We are talking about the poker room, which was illegal.

He was playing at an illegal poker room, which has since been shut down, for said illegal activity.

Axtell, do you really need to come in here and ruin this thread with your spew? Bad enough the mods havent already shut you down AGAIN.

Stick a fork in this thread.
  • Last post on this topic, and I will let the yankee fans have their thread back.

Playing in these clubs is not illegal. If it was, these players would have been arrested in the police raid. These clubs are only illegal to operate if they charge the players fees or make a profit.

Why you continue to press this topic nearly 2 years after the fact is beyond me.

    Good night, and good luck.
  • TheVonTheVon Posts: 2,725
I should just let this go but I'm a glutton for punishment, but in response to your question Axtell, yes, A-Rod appeared to be the only player not dressed in a uniform. I only cared because I thought it was weird. Even Willie McCovey was wearing a uniform.
  • stownstown Posts: 11,321 ✭✭✭
    Didn't you read?

He's no longer posting in this thread anymore, since that's as close as he's going to conceed that I'm right.

A-Rod went to an illegal poker room.

And he was the only player to not wear a uniform.

He's A-Rod and can do whatever his little heart desires.

Thanks Steve, we just may be moving to Pt. St. Lucie within a year.

Guys, Phil Hughes pitched Friday and struck out 6 in 3 innings of scoreless ball. The Yanks would love to have him for August and September.

Edited to say that it was a Double A start for Hughes with Trenton. His start with Tampa was last Monday.

baseball, with all due respect, all I think about is beating the Sox, catching the Sox, being better then the Sox, etc, etc, etc just like it has been forever. << <i>The next 3 games will be a great time for the Yanks to make up some ground. With Boston playing Cleveland, the Yanks can make up ground on either the wild card or the division. And the Tigers losing today is also another backup situation. >>

Not to mention the Yanks are gaining very quickly on the Mariners. When they gobble up the M's it will be just one team in front of the Yanks in both the division and wildcard race.

Phil Hughes just went 6 STRONG innings in AAA his 4th rehab start. 0 Runs 7 K's and only 2 hits. I know he is a kid but just ask the Texas Rangers if he will be a huge lift to the Yanks rotation VERY SOON image

The Yankees were 6.5 games behind the Mariners for 2nd place in the Wild Card scene 5 days ago. Now they are 1.5 games behind them ..... is this just not more proof that you just CAN NOT get caught up in standings in April, May, June, or even July?
Again as I have said it over and over and over again that just as quickly the Yanks can fall back. BUT ..... and I mean BUT it is just FOOLISH ...... to start throwing daggers before its time.

Ron Burgangy? You stepped in for ONE shot at the Yanks this season in this thread. I say to you ..... WHATS UP? You still ready to claim the Yankees should start selling off what they have? And that was WEEKS ago image

Sure I am feeling good as a Yanks fan at the moment ..... but I know and I know from toooooooooooooo many years of watching this game that daggers are meant for SEPTEMBER. S-E-P-T-E-M-B-E-R

I will be glad to take any and all daggers THEN ....... and ONLY THEN should the Yankees falter image

Jdurg ...... where the HELL are you? image and you call yourself a Yankee "fan"

Come on now ........ its time to put up or shut up and I am more then willing to SHUT UP if that is what is at hand ..... I just wish the talking heads that hit this place once or twice had the BALLS image
