The concern with Okijima is that they feel he is being burned out. On his pace, this year would be the most innings he's ever pitched in his career. The reason for getting GagMe was to take some of the burden off Oki's shoulders and to give Papelbon some backup. Obviously, he isn't doing either.
Wow, the Red Sox are now just four games ahead of the Yankees after being ahead as much as eleven games ahead just a couple months back or so. My wife (Red Sox fan) is NOT going to like this news. All I can say is, the BoSox had better get their act together real soon unless they want to relive 1978 all over again.
I suggest revoking his bandwagon card and distance yourself far, far, far away from him.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Try 14 1/2 games
"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
So with all the bluster, the yanks are still 4 games out, despite playing through the easiest part of their schedule. Will be a fight to the end as it always is. The sox will be fine, the yanks still have a long ways to go.
All what bluster? Gee, its interesting that you don't barf out through the mouth about all of the "bluster" that Sox fans enjoyed (and rightfully so) for 3 god damn months.
The bluster of the majority of yankee fans who have been posting for the last month or so that were absolute ghosts when the sox had a huge lead, but that lead diminishes and here come the coattail riders.
Even with the tremendous run the yanks have been on, and the slide the sox have been on, the yanks are still four games out. Don't expect either trend to continue. The yanks are playing way above their heads and the sox have been below what their talent should be giving them. Both teams will revert to form here shortly, and the sox will soon be enjoying a comfortable division cushion.

This is absolutely, 100%, no doubt about it, correct.
And, I was away for a large part of the weekend, and come home to see Gagne f-ed us again.
Also, no thanks to the lousy (all of a sudden) Indians, who layed down like dogs this weekend.
UUUGGGGHHHHH. Well my little sebatical away for the weekend did the Sox no good. I am just horrified at how much of a joke this has been, just giving away ball games and allowing New York to come right back to within a series away from taking first. Well as far as Im concerned I will stand by my team and root for them but IMO ...
And let me just sound like a broken record for a second here, but I blame Theo and the rest of our brain trust for... well just sitting on our A$$ and not address our pressing needs, Gagne SOUNDED like a nice addition but in reality this guy has been nothing but a friggen bust.
I have to admit I was wrong about the Gagne trade. I was excited and I thought he'd be an important part of the team. Frankly, he's been nothing but subtraction by addition. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd rather see Mike Timlin come into the game than I would Gagme.
Mike Francesa(who ctsox likes to quote when Mike is bashing the Yanks) of WFAN just finished a 1/2 hour rant about how the Red Sox have effectively (at this moment) destroyed the aura of the best 8/9 combo in the game. Francesa is beside himself because he can't understand for one second how you take the 8th inning away from Okajima who has been "brilliant" in Mike's words all season. He says the Sox have violated one of the games oldest unwritten rules. You don't go and try to FIX something that ain't broke.
Interesting, and who knows, Gagne might have given up his last runs of the year, BUT this will be fun to watch and see how it pans out. Meanwhile Gabbard is throwing well for Texas
Im suprised he ranted for just a half hour. The whole thing bothers me to NO end, OKJ and Papelbon were the best combo in baseball and the Sox brass felt the need to upgrade????? Why not try to upgrade the pitching staff??? Why not try to add a bench player to our squad??? You know what I meen, a "BENCH" player that can actually hit? I am soooooooooo dissapointed in Theo Epstein right now, I meen it is PAINFULLY obvious Ortiz and his magic is non-existent this year, wether its due to injuries or not it is just simply not there. We dont need to mention Lugo and JD Drew, but our lineup is not the only ones who are failing us now, its our relief corps! Absolutly sickening to see this team just fall apart.
I'm more disappointed in Gagme than I am in Theo. Based on the way the fat french guy was pitching in Texas it looked like a great addition. It's pretty apparent now that it was a mistake though . . .
With that said, I frequently feel that Theo is too proud to admit when he's made a mistake. Sometimes time has ended up proving him right like it did with Coco Crisp (at least in my opinion). To a lesser extent, I think that Julio Lugo's resurgence has also gone a long way to making that deal not look as bad as it did for most of the year. Drew, WMP, and Gagme though are the three worst and while we're apparently stuck with Drew there's no reason to keep subjecting the rest of the team and all of Red Sox nation to the ineptitudes housed in the corporeal wastes we know as #22 and #83.
Whoa - Mike Francesa bashes the Yanks? When does he do that, Dan? He is the biggest drinker of the Yankee kool-aid on the planet! He did give up on the Yankees though, sometime around May - saying they had absolutely zero chance to come back in the AL East. As is typical of the fair-weather NY fan however, I'm sure he's right back on board today now that the gap has been closed to 4.
I like Francesa's football analysis, though - he's one of the best IMO.
And, I don't think we're done perkdog man! C'mon, it's only August 13th, and last I checked we were still in 1st. The Yankees spend a zillion dollars on a team, did you think they wouldn't make a run at it? I would have been absolutely shocked if they finished 10+ games back of the Sox, that just wasn't happening. Keep the faith bro!
Gagne - I really don't know what to say. Okj and Papelbon were rock solid, and now Okj is even giving up some runs. But, could he have stayed virtually unhittable into October? I don't know. But the idea of someone with Gagne's resume coming into the bullpen is a good one. I just hope he figures things out, and soon.
I know we are not really DONE yet. And yes, I can understand the Gagne signing, believe me if it begins to work then great! But I still say we needed to address other area's more so than middle relief, thats where my pi$$y attitude stems from. Well there is nothing more that needs to be said about it because obviously it is well past that now. I just get this awful taste in my mouth when I think of us going against New York for a series where the division lead will be had from the outcome, I dont want to stomach that again. Believe it or not I am still very annoyed about the Boston Massacre last year when they came to Fenway and we made such fools of ourselves.
Well, the no-hitter is gone now so I'd like to say way to go to Tim Wakefield for a great effort so far. Keeping Crawford from scoring in the 6th was no easy feat either.
Now, how about the hitters get off their butts and score Wakey some freakin' runs?
If the Red Sox were destined to win tonight I would not have minded Wakefield pitching a No-No. I like that guy. With that said I hope Fatty Tarbucket gets blown out of the stadium again.

Certainly a nice performance by Wakefield but why is everything a "nice job" guys kind of thing when the Sox beat Tampa? I mean, how many times did Yankee fans have to hear the whining about the Yanks clubbing the crap out of them? Because they really stink and stuff?
NICE!!! I could not stomach watching our anemic offense so I say F- It and refuse to watch the game or monitor it on the net and WHAMO!!! 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth to lock it down! Yanks lose..
WE ARE AT 5!!! Now hopefully we can catch fire and the Yankee bats will get COOOOOOOLD!!!!
Now that was a nice turn of events - I was really pulling for Lester to win his first game at home since he came back, and Kazmir pitched just as well on the other side.
Let's have a few more nights like this one before the month is out!

Theo, get on the damn phone and get Gabbard back. Get "nuts like coconuts" back too. We need a few more horses for the stretch run.
