Great game last night...and Beltre just absolutely killed me...2 runners on and he swings at the first pitch and fouls out. What a bummer. The only consolation is that Jones is playing Center tomorrow and Ichiro is DHing.
Question for red sox fans...is Drew seemingly unliked, even despised in the sox clubhouse? It really seems as if he tries to be his own team, not really reaching out to anyone on the team. The feeling I get is he's a lot like how Reggie is portrayed on that miniseries the bronx is burning (but without as much talent as Reggie of course).
M's had every opportunity last night to win, and today the pitching really let them down...Batista was lucky to get out of the first two innings with just two allowed. Series win for the Sox is great for you guys, glad the M's played close throughout.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
I haven't heard whether or not Drew is disliked by his teammates, but I have heard that he keeps to himself in the clubhouse. From an outsider's perspective, it seems like that would be counterculture in the Red Sox clubhouse.

I'm sure Sox players interact with Drew in a friendly and professional manner. I'm also sure that deep inside, guys like Youkilis, Varitek, and the rookie Pedroia are thinking that Drew needs to give it more than 60% effort, or at least make it look like he is trying his best.
Well I did my best to shy away for the weekend and we end up winning the series! Honestly I thought we were going to get swept, I hate to admit it but I did.. I just had this bad feeling, especially with NY clobbering KC and all, it just seemed to me that we were not going to have a good weekend. Oh well, Im glad I was wrong!
I attended all 3 games at Safeco this past weekend. My thoughts:
Red Sox Nation was well represented in Seattle - probably about 25-30% of the fans were decked out in Red Sox gear. The only time Mariners fans cheered was when we started our "LETS GO RED SOX" chant. On to the games.................
When Timlin was brought in on Friday, I had a very very bad feeling and sure enough we lost. Papi hit a nice long HR to right center and seems to be getting his swing back - he was crushing the ball in BP.
Saturday night’s game was a playoff atmosphere. It was one of the best games I've seen in a while. Other than 2 mis-located pitches from Dice-K (both hit for solo HR's) he was really on his game. It was similar to the game he pitched here the end of June (1 run in 8 IP) that the Sox lost in extra innings - you know the one - Pineiro gave it to the M's in the 11th............Back to Saturday - After getting 2 quick outs in the 8th, Gagne struggled a little giving up a run and Pap made it interesting in the 9th but got out of it with a pop up to end it. The game changing play was by Manny who held Johjima to a single on a ball he hit off the LF wall in the bottom of the 8th. The next batter doubled and Manny again got to the ball quickly and held the PR (Bloomquist) from scoring the tying run. To add to Mannys game - he scored (hustling all the way) from 1st on a double by Tek which became the difference in the game.
Sunday (after ending our 9 game loosing streak the night before) we took the lead early and never looked back. Once we broke it open in the 7th - it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.
Now on to Anaheim - we seem to have their number the same way Anaheim has the yankees number. We will be in good shape for August playing an easier schedule than the yankees (now that they're done with the likes of KC and TB.) We'll build our lead back up to double digits by the time the next Sox yankees series commences. Let's hear it one time - "LETS GO RED SOX" CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP
Please, please sweep Anaheim....they've been playing like crap lately and we definitely need the help after blowing two chances this weekend to take the wild card lead and to get closer than 3.5 to Anaheim.

You mean the "likes" of a KC team that the Sox have a tough time beating in Fenway?
I'm putting all my faith and hope in Schilling . . . not only does he return to Boston's starting rotation, but he's a two-start fantasy pitcher this week. Yours truly would love to see nothing less than two wins from Curt this week.
Well checking out the Yankee thread, those guys are all fired up (the regulars anyways) and it is just the world we are living in now... THE YANKEES REFUSE TO GO AWAY! We need to be on top of our game EVERY game from here on out!
I hope the Dough Boy gets pummeled. Meanwhile back in Yankeeland the Melkman delivered!

Never fear. Vlad is going to rip one and then Schilling will go into the dugout and put a towel over his head.

Melky is great. I bet most Red Sox fans would take him over Crisp. Melky has more Home Runs and RBI's than Crisp and is is batting close to .300, almost 20 points higher. He has a better arm in CF too. Melky is younger by 5 years.

Go ahead and laugh away, CTSox! Melky has 11 Assists this year, tied for forth in MLB!!! You will learn at the end of August and Mid September! Mark my words!
By the way, Crisp does have a better fielding pct. but only 5 assists.
The Melkman? He is the funniest player on the Yankees - I love watching him stumble around in the outfield
I love watching Coco do the backward "K".

Jerry, you know I admire your passion but why just make stuff up? The LAST thing Melky does is "stumble" around the outfield. He is a hell of a defender with a very good arm.
OF Assists is one of the most misleading stats. Guys that have great arms or play great defense don't always rack up that many assists precisely because of their talent. People know not to run on Vlad's arm, for instance, but then they think they can run on Manny Ramirez because he's so lackadaisical. And Manny ended up leading the league (I think) in OF Assists in 2005 with 17.
I don't know what it is about him, but every time I hear the name "Melky Cabrera", I have visions of him misplaying balls in the outfield, slipping and falling while chasing after fly balls hit over his head, and other slip-ups of that nature. I clearly don't watch the Yankees every day, but didn't he used to really stink in the outfield? When did he become such a "hell of a defender"?
I thought the schedule was supposed to be easier for the Sox this month. So far, the Sox are playing all the top teams, and the Yankees are playing the worst. And, those worst teams aren't even making an effort.
And, what the f**k was Tito thinking, leaving Moss up there at the end of the game like that? I know he only had Pena and Cora to pick from, but at least Pena might have had a shot at making contact. Moss just isn't ready for prime time.
I missed Manny being tossed early in the game, but he sure was needed in that spot in the 9th - and he wasn't there.

So let's score some freakin runs.
As much as I want Jones playing everyday, I really don't like the defensive moves being made by the M's. Should be an easy win for the Red Sox.
