My t206 collection can be seen here

The aim is to add one card per week to the collection....
  • Fred Clarke holding bat is one of my favorite T206s along with Lajoie throwing.

Here are some scans and questions. I think I want to submit these Sovereigns to PSA, (Not overly concerned on grade as long as they are unaltered).

Jones- I don't see anything wrong except the top right corner crinkle

Merritt- The background Green is not solid, kind of splotchy w/ light green around the head

Murray- afraid it might be trimmed, but thought I read somewhere that Sovereigns ran smaller than other T206s (does PSA account for that?). I have a Piedmaoont 150 graded PSA 2 that is the same dimensions when overlaid though, thoughts? Because it is Sovereign 460 does that make it more likely to run smaller?

  • Murray is trimmed and the other two look OK from the scans IMO.

Edited to add: I know American Beauty cards are smaller than normal T206's, but to my knowledge they're the only one's. I haven't seen any Sovereigns that measured smaller than normal T206's.
  • Here are my most recent additions to my Registry set. Nothing spectacular, but it keeps my set average above PSA 2 (the McGraw is weighted 3) which is what I am after. Right after adding them, I reached #106, but now I am back down to #110, oh well.

Nice cards everyone! Martin love the Matty.

Most of these cards were acquired raw and just back from SGC. Nothing exciting......

Some of those should look familiar to me, right, Scott? I can't remember how I graded them, but hopefully you were satisfied with SGC's assessments.

    Hi Steve

Yes a bunch of them should look familiar! I was very happy with the grades. I let them keep the old certs (my mistake) when I submitted them so I'm not sure how I did but I think I may have gotten a few upgrades.

Thanks again for a great transaction.

I'm thinking the Ferris might have been a bump. And I'm pretty sure the Konetchy was always raw, but it looks really nice in the holder. I wouldn't say its borders are necessarily fat, but they look a little husky in the slab, which is a good thing, I think.

I love the Konetchy, beautiful colors, "husky" borders and a little bit of the name showing on the top. The card has it all!
  • I haven't had many T206 pickups of late but here's a tough one I added.

I am curious to know what people on this thread think of Topps coming out with this anniversary set? What about your expectations?

I predict it will be popular for about 4 months after its release, and will otherwise not be much more. I expect it will ony be as popular as the 2002 Topps 206 unless they insert a real Wagner, Plank, Cobbs, etc. I think it will, on the other hand, create a spike in interest for the real T206 cards and would expect to see sales and prices soar during that time. I hope Topps does not create the modern size cards and make the minis a parallel. I think they should only produce the minis, to include memorabilia/autograph, and original T206s inserted. Don't include them inside Frames. Use a "Topps" back and the parallels can be in the traditional Tobacco brands. I would like to see some suprises too, not just repeat the 2002 set. Maybe add some Chrome parallels, Maybe dual autograph cards signed on the front and back of the card (eliminate the back of the card). Add some horizontal cards as well.

Didn't they already do a Topps 206? I don't really follow the modern market all that much, but I would guess that Topps is beyond the point of diminishing returns on all these retro sets.

As for the original Monster, its popularity was probably heightened a bit with the release of the first Topps 206 set a few years ago, but the 100th anniversary of the set is a bit of a yawner for me - and I love the set.

  • yawie, are you going to any Phish Shows?

im pumped they are back..heard they ARE VERY TIGHT....break did them good
  • yawie99yawie99 Posts: 2,575 ✭✭✭
Yeah, I'll be seeing them here (St. Louis) at the Fox. Should be incredible. It's an ornate venue from the '20s or '30s. I don't think it holds more than 6,000, but the place still literally rumbles. I downloaded the Hampton shows, but still need to listen to them. Have heard great things, though. I'd love to go to Red Rocks as well, but I think that's after my summer break ends. You going to the Fenway show?

One of the tightest collection of Hof 9's I've seen in awhile. The red background Chance is incredible.

Been awhile for this thread. Inching closer to completion. Some Hofers, SLers and commons. Some nice, others not so much. The Johnson might be an upgrade in the future but the price was right. The Joss seems overgraded to me but probably paid a 30 price for it.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Picked up my first Young portrait yesterday. It has taken me a while to find a nice midgrade example. I have posted it on a couple other boards already so hopefully those of you who frequent the other sites won't get tired of me. image

That's a great Young portrait. Love the virtually perfect green background, which isn't always easy to find with that card.

Too many Young portraits come with a yellow-green chicken-pox'ish backgroundimage

I completely agree. The Young Portrait is a tough card to find with a nice clean green background. I have been after one for quite some time now. I paid a premium over what recent Young portraits have sold for but I feel I actually got a pretty good deal compared to what they were selling for a year or so ago. Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.

Wow the Green Cobb is Sweet I wish it was mine.
  • lamontcarterlamontcarter Posts: 748 ✭✭✭
    Tone that Young is SICK.....Congrats.

Yes Mark those cards should look familiar, thanks for helping me along. Love the Otey, that's one of my favorite cards in the set.....I still need to grab one. He doesn't come up for sale all that often.

A few more pickups. These get me to only needing 2 more commons Williams and Malarkey. If anyone has one for sale or trade let me know.

    Best,

    Scott

    Mark and Tone

    Thanks for the kind words.

Just to clarify because after I read my post I thought it might be confusing, I only need 2 commons to complete the common portion of the set. I still need about 43 more HOFers and SLers to finish it off minus the big 6. At that point I think I'd go for an O'Hara and Demmitt and call it a day.

    Best,

    Scott

    No Magie in your future?

    Hey guys,
I just requested to have a SLer master subset added to the SGC Registry. It's out there now for anyone that's interested.

I'm not sure I'll ever get comfortable with spending $8-10 thousand on a baseball card but one never knows what lies ahead of them.

That Manion is off the charts!

I would love to open something like this at least once in my life:

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

A few more additions to my set. I think this puts me at 40 to go as I have a Jimmy Williams and Dolly Stark on the way.

P.S. Bunker I don't think that pouch contains a card, I believe there have been discussions on it on the Net 54 board.
