No Ax, a better example of irony is you calling yourself a Mariners fan when in fact you are more a Yankee hater than a Mariner fan.
Another good example of irony would be potraying yourself as an intelligent contributor of these boards when in fact you reveal yourself as an ignorant stooge.
A third example would be you claiming your status as a man who would actually talk garbage to peoples faces when in reality you would cower upon said situation.

Actually became a Mariners fan in the late 80s...and the M's didn't make it to the postseason until 95...so that squashes that little theory.
As far as football, I adopted the Bucs in 91...remember it well, Wyche became head coach the next season. I had rooted against the 49ers when the Bengals played them in the super bowl, and thought Wyche could turn it around.
Little did I know the Bucs had owners who were so tight fisted, they were never going to be competitive.
I remember the first game of the 96 (or was it 97?) season, where the 49ers went to Tampa and the Bucs held them without a TD for the first time 100+ games...everyone I worked with at the time were huge 49er fans, so it was a lot of fun to rub that one in.
So, while in the old days, you had to be a fan of the local team because that's all you got on the radio or tv, in the modern age, you can be a fan of whatever team you want.
And why is it valid that you became a fan of who you became a fan of yet it is not valid that I or anyone else became a fan of the Yankees, even if it was during a period of losing ? Are we not allowed to have become fans for whatever reason we did ?
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
Look, its apparent from the wording of several posts, that attempt to discredit those teams that haven't bought, err I mean won, championships, that many only root for the teams they do because of their past successes.
It's apparent that many, many yankee fans do so simply because they have a long history of winning championships, and have a good current decade long string of postseason appearances.
One would wonder, if you are such a true fan as you claim to be, why you feel the need to justify your fandom?

I dont feel the need to justify anything. You asked a question and it was answered.
Please point out ONE SINGLE SITUATION where it is apparent that MANY Yankee fans are fans because of their long history of winning. Please also point out where it is apparent anywhere that ANY Yankee fan discredits any other team. It just isnt true, and it just doesnt happen. Again a situation where you come up with outright lies and present them as obvious fact.

You got that right. Its safe to say that most non yankee fans would readily agree that we dont bash other teams. We spend more time listending to others defend the yankees we bash. thread after thread involving another team is entered by Yankee fans to talk sensibly and often give credit to that team. Everything Ax claims is the exact opposite from the truth. You know it, I know, and the rest of the members here know it.

Axtell, this thread was a nice little place for Yanks fans (bandwagon or not, just fans) to talk about and discuss the happenings and going-ons with the New York Yankees. I'm sure everyone would appreciate it if you would just leave and quit hijacking this thread. Its obvious (to most anyway) that no one in this thread likes you, cares about what you think is the so called truth or facts or cares one flip about you one way or the other. Quit acting like a child and go find another part of the playground to play on, no one wants you here.
Now lets get back to the topic of the this thread, the 2006 New York Yankees.
Is there anyone in the minors that is ready to be called up and contribute to the club this summer/fall? I for one hate when management goes out and tries to buy pieces, that was the problem with the team in the early 80's thru the mid 90's, they tried to buy talent, it wasn't until they gave the farm system a chance to recover and brought up jeter, posada, rivera, pettite, bernie (a little earlier), that they started having success again. Can they do it again?

I believe they are realizing right now that it's not only possible to win again this way, but it's the only way to do it(A nice stable of veterans, with young guys ready to fill in and step up). Hopefully Cashman and Georgy realize that even with the loss of Matsui and Sheffield, the however "minor" injuries to Damon/Posada/Cano/Jeter, and A-Rod having an off season that this team is still right there in the thick of it. Hopefully this will make Cashman realize the err of the Yankees management/ownership as of the last few seasons. There are 2 more prospects I think that'll be brought up for postseason callups. Phillip Hughes may get a callup if an injury or an extreme fallout in the Clipper pitching occurs. But he's still really young and unless they bring him up for good(maybe to the bullpen until a spot opens in the rotation) they could hurt his future by bringing him up so early. JB Cox is another reliever, a possible setup man who's numbers have improved as he's moved up in minor league divisions.
A few other interesting pitching prospect.... Darrell Rasner.

Well, dissapointing for the Big Unit isn't the word for it. Once he does leave(which I honestly believe will be at the end of the season) luckily there are a few guys that can step up. The whole pitching rotation needs to get younger. They should've never signed the Yankee killer Jaret Wright(Why sign a guy who only is good AGAINST YOU!) and Carl"owwww" Pavano. I like that they brought up Rassner though, I see atleast 1 more pitching callup before the year is out.
Collecting; Mark Mulder rookies Chipper Jones rookies Orlando Cabrera rookies Lawrence Taylor Sam Huff Lavar Arrington NY Giants NY Yankees NJ Nets NJ Devils 1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards
Their pitching is in absolute shambles. After this year we will get maybe another year from Mussina. Johnson is done, finished, over. Wang is the only one who is solid enough to actually count on after next year. They wont win with Chacon, Wright, Pavano, or any other guy they have. If they dont find a way to make a few moves they are in deep doo doo.
Add to the mix the fact that several veterans are aging like Posada, Mariano, Bernie, Sheffield. Even Jeter, Matsui, Giambi and Damon are approaching their mid 30's. By the time they move into their new park in 2009 they will be a 3rd rate team without major intelligent organizational moves.

Why, because YOU and yankee nation say so?
The guy is obviously the most talented player in the AL, perhaps all of baseball. One need to look at his stats to see this obvious FACT.
Are you going to bring up the mythological 'clutch' garbage again? If Arod had come up through the Yankees organization, and had the same exact stats as he does now, we'd never hear the end of the nonstop rampage of how great he is, he's the best ever, yadda yadda yadda.
The hypocrisy that spews from yankeeland is mind boggling.

Here is why...when you are considered by many to be the best player in the game and you are slumping for 2 months at the plate, playing terrible defense and your team needs you the most you WILL get booed. Every great athlete who has played in NY has gotten booed at some point, so he isnt above it. What is the deal with being above criticism ?
He came through big time tonight, as he has done a bunch the past week. The boos have stopped. Nobody wants to see the guy fail, but what is fair is fair. I dont see what all the fuss is about and why people go to the end of the earth acting like he is above any criticism.
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
Exactly what does booing the hometown guy do? It's a classless move by a bunch of spoiled crybabies who think they are entitled to world championships every year. Exactly how is booing the guy going to make him play better?
Classless to the max...almost as bad as booing Rivera (which you 'fans' have been known to do) - ridiculous!
No Ax, we do not want to see him fail. Claiming that we want to see him fail may be the dumbest thing you have ever said and that is saying a BOAT LOAD.
Everyone gets booed at some point. Thats life, thats what being in the public eye is all about. Why is Alex Rodriguez different from anyone else ? You have never booed anyone ? You have never criticized anyone ? No athlete ? No politician ? No actor ? All these people are in the public eye and open to criticism.
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
Of course I've booed, but the hometown guy, never, absolutely not.
What's the point? It's a ridiculous exercise in 'look at me I'm a spoiled brat!'
I'd expect him to get booed by the opposing fans in their parks - that's what you do to the *other* team's best player - but never by the home town fans.
The very fact that he was booed so lustily by the yankee 'fans' speaks volumes about their inability to grasp the concept of what is it to be fan - to root for the team through thick and thin. Their booing further illustrates just how absolutely spoiled rotten they have become with their team's drunken spending and buying of all stars at every position - they feel entitled (not hoping) to win every single game and the world series every year.
You giving anyone a lesson on etiquette is a joke. You calling anyone a spoiled brat is a joke. I have never once seen you admit to any wrong doing on here. Never once heard you admit a mistake. Never once concede to anyone in any debate. Never once listen to anyone elses opinion. You endlessly pick fights, attempt to bully, and poke fun of whoever you want whenever you want. If that is not the very definition of a spoiled brat nothing is.
You have never been to NY. You havnt the first idea of what anyone here thinks or feels. You have no clue about the feelings of fans here, yet you continue to rant as if you have some wisdom and insight into the minds of New Yorkers. Until you leave your sheltered little life and see some of the world please dont act like you have a clue about the culture of anywhere but your own home.

Haha good to know you didn't refute a thing I said. Good to know you agree with my assessment of the spoiled brat mentality that pervades ny yankee 'fans'. How else does one boo Arod, and, not only him, but Rivera, too?
Good god you guys should NEVER be allowed to attend another yankee game.
It doesn't motivate the players when you boo, it only makes them think 'damn, these guys are a bunch of spoiled kids who always get their way then whine when we don't win every day'. It's a sense of entitlement that makes you boo - not your passion.

-- Yogi Berra
It's apparent that many, many yankee fans do so simply because they have a long history of winning championships, and have a good current decade long string of postseason appearances.
One would wonder, if you are such a true fan as you claim to be, why you feel the need to justify your fandom?
<< <i>Actually became a Mariners fan in the late 80s...and the M's didn't make it to the postseason until 95...so that squashes that little theory.

<< <i>Look, its apparent from the wording of several posts, that attempt to discredit those teams that haven't bought, err I mean won, championships, that many only root for the teams they do because of their past successes.

<< <i>Bri-Us Yank fans will discredit our own players before attacking other players/franchises simply because we want our boys to win. I'd rather talk about my favorite team then downplay/criticize another team. Quite frankly I don't give a chit about other teams as much as my favorites. Axtell can't say the same tho. >>

<< <i>Axtell became a Mariner "fan" within the last 5 years. That much is obvious. A Buc fan? Most defiantley when they won the Super Bowl. >>
'Definitely' not...you don't know me, you don't know anything, this much is obvious.
<< <i>Axtell, this thread was a nice little place for Yanks fans (bandwagon or not, just fans) to talk about and discuss the happenings and going-ons with the New York Yankees.

<< <i>Would someone please explain to me why Yankee fans insist on booing the best player in baseball every time he comes to the plate? >>
He's not clutch! He hasn't brought them a championship!
It's quite humorous to watch these so-called 'fans' booing Arod at every opportunity. They're passionate! No, they're idiotic.

Cut the condescending crap. If he isn't the best player in baseball he's sure as hell the best player in the AL. And there are plenty of people who know more about baseball than either you or I who agree with me. Oh-- and feel free to answer my original question at your leisure if you have any insights.

<< <i>Geez, who's that goober pitching batting practice for the Mets? >>
Good question. And who's that scrub hitting grand slams for the Yankees? Anyone?
<< <i>Good question. And who's that scrub hitting grand slams for the Yankees? Anyone? >>
Can't be A-Rod, he only hits HRs that don't matter, according to his "fans".
I see the Mets put in BP pitcher #2.

Nope. Definitely not him. Only a moron would expect one of the top two players in MLB to hit a grand slam. Must have been Scott Brosius.
Now I see the yankee apologist lining up to sing their Arod praises....what a bunch of phonies.
carry on

Here is why...when you are considered by many to be the best player in the game and you are slumping for 2 months at the plate, playing terrible defense and your team needs you the most you WILL get booed. Every great athlete who has played in NY has gotten booed at some point, so he isnt above it. What is the deal with being above criticism ?
He came through big time tonight, as he has done a bunch the past week. The boos have stopped. Nobody wants to see the guy fail, but what is fair is fair. I dont see what all the fuss is about and why people go to the end of the earth acting like he is above any criticism.
-- Yogi Berra
Exactly what does booing the hometown guy do? It's a classless move by a bunch of spoiled crybabies who think they are entitled to world championships every year. Exactly how is booing the guy going to make him play better?
Classless to the max...almost as bad as booing Rivera (which you 'fans' have been known to do) - ridiculous!
-- Yogi Berra

<< <i>You giving anyone a lesson on etiquette is a joke.
